A pretty cool script I read last year was Gold Circle's The New Daughter, which New Line Cinema is releasing next year (but now who knows if that'll happen). Today the first official stills were found from the film that stars Kevin Costner as John James, a single father who moves to a house in the country with his two children following a painful divorce. Soon, however, his adolescent daughter (Ivana Baquero) begins acting strangely, and the household is plagued by disturbing events. John begins to suspect that the mysterious mound at the edge of the forest may have something to do with her ominous behavior. ...Read More

J.J. Abrams, co-producer of the hit monster film Cloverfield, tells Sci Fi Wire that a sequel may or may not happen and revealed that he's more inclined to do something [different] with his Cloverfield partners, writer Drew Goddard and director Matt Reeves, other than a follow-up. "We're talking about it," Abrams said of Cloverfield 2. "But the truth is there's another idea that I'd rather do with the same people than do a sequel. It's a whole new thing." Abrams added, "So my dream is to work with [Goddard and Reeves] again, but do something that's [new]. Having said that, Drew and Matt both, separately, have really good ideas for what [Cloverfield 2] could be. So I don't know. We'll see. I know the studio wants it." Well how much would that SUCK?!

James Corden and Mathew Horne, the stars of cult fave Brit TV skein "Gavin and Stacey," are reteaming for Lesbian Vampire Killers, which sounds way too good to be true. The feature, a mix of horror and comedy, finds the two male leads stuck in a village where all the women have been enslaved by a vampire curse. Phil Claydon ("Alone") helms from a script by Stewart Williams ("Friday Night Project") and Paul Hupfield ("Balls of Steel"). Principal photography begins Monday at 3 Mills Studios in London.
Benderspink and FilmEngine will produce the third installment of The Butterfly Effect along with After Dark Films, which will distribute it theatrically in the U.S. as part of its After Dark Horrorfest "8 Films to Die For" series. Production will start September 1 in Vancouver with casting underway. The first film is awesome, and now that there's a serial killer involved, this could prove to be interesting.
Although it's not the biggest news ever, it's still cool considering how cool the monster looked in CLOVERFIELD. It was announced yesterday that Neville Page, who designed the CLOVERFIELD monster, will be creating the underwater biters for Alex Aja's Piranha 3-D, which is slated for release on July 24, 2009 from Dimension Films. In the remake of Joe Dante's film, Havasu sits in the crater formed by a prehistoric volcanic eruption, and when earth tremors tear open a crack in the lake floor, all hell breaks through. Piranhas - a million ravenous, razor-toothed monsters, unchanged since the dawn of time.
