  • I’m not meaning to bogart the discussion area guys but you younger guys may enjoy this free 3D program. I have used it and it may seem intimidating but there are tutorials that will help you make your own cartoons similar to Pixar. Enjoy:-D

  • Home On the Range was Disney’s last “traditional” or hand drawn animation film. Do you prefer traditional or CGI? I personally prefer traditional I just feel like the movies are more personal and I am in awe at the talents of past animators.

    • I fuckin’ hate CGI!!! Really…it’s so fuckin’ stupid..this new cartoons….they’re like…trying to be funny…but look so dumb…I think the cartoon should be funny first of all….

    • I totally disagree with you. I don’t think good CGI takes any fun or anything else. Take The Incredibles, or Wall-E or Ratatouille! These are great animation movies, like, for instance Home On The Range couldn’t be. I don’t think CGI is better or worse than hand drawn animation. There are great works and awfull pieces of shit on both techinques

    • Very good point, I love PIXAR movies myself there is a lot of genius
in it. But I grew up admiring the animators that I mentioned before and those cartoons got me through very rough times growing up so automatically I hold them to different standards. But that is the point of this thread, there are no right or wrong answers the only important…[Read more]

    • HAND DRAWN!!! So much more heart in it, CGI is cold, so damn cold….

    • I’m sorry I repeat myself but have you seen Wall-E or Ratatouille? If there’s something those movies aren’t is cold!

    • I prefer CGI sometimes, but most of the time, I prefer traditional.

    • With CGI getting better, movies are getting worse, but “pretty” so it’s ok? Some shit Pixar does is still good, but come on. I love the CGI technology, but don’t scrimp on story.

    • YEah it’s all about this “pretty” shit! They’re not fuckin’ Funny…WALL-E..it’s fuckin’ CUTE and shit…but the jokes and situations are fuckin’ old as world itself..cartoon is supposed to make your stomach blow up of laughing! And when I see these shrek-like shit it makes me puke! 2D 4 Life! The Ren & Stimpy show is the best!

    • there been classics in both forms.. but i real enjoy the hybrid animation of some of the modern anime

    • I agree, the traditional animation is very nostaglic and has a classic appeal to it, i prefer disney to be traditional, but Pixel does well with CGI …there has been a lot of stinkers but there a few to boast about.

I thought Wall-E was beautifully animated and yes it wasn’t out-right hilarious but it was heartwarming and it was made to pull at…[Read more]

    • I think it depends on the creators to give their creations heart, I’ve seen CGI and trad that was brilliant and some that stunk.

  • In an all out battle between the two giants of horror…….who eventually wins bragging rights?:lightsab:

    • what about the Texas Chainsaw movies?

    • True, those films really try to mess with the way you view humanity and your morals. Most American horror films today try to sell you on good looks and gore, not the stories. The Texas Chainsaw movies are a good case to argue though. Rob Zombie’s movies are good evidence also. The ones about the Firefly clan, not his remakes on Halloween. The…[Read more]

    • it comes down to one vs. one battles i think…..we have

      “High Tension” vs. “Saw”
“Martys” vs. ? (help me out if you can)
“Frontiere(s)” vs. “The Hills Have Eyes”
“Sheitan” vs. “The Shining” (anything better?)
      “Calvaire” vs. “Hostel”
“Them (ils)” vs. “Children of the Corn”

    • today, French wins hands down. BUT, America has had some great recents- Hills Have Eyes, The Strangers, Hostel, Rob Zombie’s movies, Hatchet, Feast, SAW.
Back in the 70s and 80s, you had some of the classics- The Shining, Freddy, Michael, Jason, Pinhead, Leatherface.

    • i dont think they win hands down…..hell! i think it is closer than most people think it is!!! yes, the French have come out with a lot of A+ material, but so have we along with our B– crap as well…..if you dig through the crap you will be able to find movies that do compare with the French’s!!!

…..we do have a lot of movies that are…[Read more]

    • so your saying that you did not like “Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon”? i think that the french come out with something amazing every once in a while, and you know what so do us Americans…..look at the recent movies to come out and look at my comparison…..ya, the overall quality is better than most of our movies, but the ones that…[Read more]

    • Leslie Vernon would be one of those “diamonds” you mentioned. and i think that Clive Barker’s stories could also fit that category, along with Midnight Movie. i just feel the French have done more better as of late. Not to say that America has not held its own. We are in a bit of a resurgence: all the icons i named before have recently, are…[Read more]

    • thank you for at least trying to see both sides…….i think there are other diamonds in the rough as well…..like “Darkness Falls”, “Insanitarium”, and “Black X-mas” are a few that are looked over that i think are amazing movies…..

    • Darkness Falls was a very pleasant surprise. (wouldnt it be cool to see Guillermo del Toro do that?) Unfortunately, i have not yet seen the other two. i think though, that insanitarium is in the netflix queue. Black Christmas? as in the movie that got remade a couple years back? which one is better, redo or original?

    • i think the remake is better, but i am a kid who thinks old movies, as good in thier time as they were, are not as good as the remakes that come out…….OMG!!!! if GdT did “Darkness Falls” then that movie would have been top 5 for life movie right there!!!!

    • a lot of remakes (not just horror) are, i believe better than the original. if for no other reason, because there is more story put into it. on the other hand, without the original, we would have never had a kick ass redo.

    • Lately America has relied on foreign horror for material (think Asian horror). However we do have the ”Iconic” horror films. The reason may be that everyone in Hollywood is looking for profit, not originality. Many of the recent french horror films have been risky and original. Though they are brutal films to watch, they are usually more…[Read more]

    • they dont have the restrictions we do…..i think some American film makers are scared to do stuff that is gory and way out of the limits (Rob Zombie)……they are more concerned about making money than an amazing horror film…..

    • Yeah, historically the French have been more relaxed with their restrictions on film.

    • maybe we should start doing the same…..because we are struggling to compete (which we are) with foreign nations in horror and ice hockey!!!!

    • it is really amusing this discussion.
We, in France, classify américan horror movies largely in front of French films and you, in the USA, prefer French movies instead of American movies.

For example, “Martyrs” (whom I venerate for my part) or “Frontieres” were done very badly criticized by the fans and the press. On this forum, you love…[Read more]

    • thats actually very interesting…..i could see why they get bad ratings and why they like our movies better, but “Frontiere(s)” was something like that of American just with a better storyline and gore….that surprises me a bit….

    • most big studio horror is dead long live independant horror, the big studios aint got a clue when it thinks it does!!!! im ashamed at some of the dross they release, come on france lets have some more gore!!!

    • well, i believe that the french have better horror films more recently myself. i mean look at inside compared to saw (whatever the hell number they are up to now). i mean that films is beautiful and savage at the same time. but, like grudge said sometimes we do have surprises like hatchet. i’m not gonna say any of the remakes because personally…[Read more]

    • I have to agree. In the last few years, the French have been kicking our Red, White and Blue asses. I too am waiting for La Horde, although I have heard mixed reviews. Like Mutants, Zombie films are a tough genre now, regardless of which country produces them. At least Zombieland added a humoristic twist recently – score one for the USofA
