‘New Mutants’ Teaser Another Nod to ‘Elm Street’

A short animated New Mutants teaser shows Cannibal (played by “Stranger Things” star Charlie Heaton) in a mine where his powers first manifested. In the scene, he must face his worst fears, his nightmares. The video clip contains the text, “Welcome to your nightmare,” which is a spin on one of Freddy Krueger’s infamous lines. This is in line with the entire marketing campaign thus far, which harkens back to Wes Craven’s A Nightmare On Elm Street in both the trailer and on the official poster.

Josh Boone (The Fault in Our Stars) directs the horror adaptation of the popular Marvel comic series.

The cast includes Henry Zaga as Roberto da Costa a.k.a Sunspot, a mutant with the ability to absorb and channel solar power; Blu Hunt as Danielle Moonstar, the Native American telepath also known as “Mirage”; Alice Braga as Dr. Cecilia Reyes, a medical doctor who has the ability to generate a protective bio-field around herself but also has more going on than she lets on; Anya Taylor-Joy as Illyana Rasputin, also known as Magik, who uses teleportation; Charlie Heaton as Sam Guthrie, a.k.a. Cannonball; and Maisie Williams as Rahne Sinclair, a.k.a. Wolfsbane, who can turn into a wolf.

Boone directed from a script he co-wrote with Knate Lee about teenage superheroes-mutants being held against their will.

New Mutants has been set for an April 13, 2018, opening.

I hope this one is not like much of the previous X-Men films in which they give real dialogue to two or three characters and the rest are just a bunch of fillers with cool names who just show up to show their powers a pair of times and then disappear in the background once again.

That was my only problems most of the X-Men films, but I think with Boone choosing 5 New Mutants is the best way to go. He’s pretty good with directing and writing young adults and teenagers. Less is more approach is better than having walking special effects.

I’m loving all the Nightmare 3 homages

At least Squires seems to care about correcting errors in these articles. Good on him.

  • Freddy Krueger is endlessly quotable.

    Welcome to my nightmare.

    Welcome to my world, bitch!

    You’re in my world now.

    Bon appetite… Bitch.

Breadcrumbs… I mean really. We could also liken this to Mary Poppins since the wallpaper in Jane &Michael Banks’ room had white in it. A nod would be having Krueger’s glove in the shot, or a red and green sweater and a brown fedora with a green Elm St. sign.
