With Sam Raimi’s Oz the Great and Powerful in theaters March 8, and the remake of his The Evil Dead in theaters April 5, the now A-list director has been in the press spotlight quite a bit. Within the range of questions, a can of worms was opened when he sort of implied that he and his older brother would begin working on a script for Evil Dead 4 this summer. Just the other day it was discovered that Sam Raimi made a huge statement regarding the much-desired Evil Dead 4 in the press notes for Oz the Great and Powerful. “I would love to make Evil Dead 4,” Raimi stated further adding, “My brother and I plan to work on the script this summer.” READ MORE

Award Pictures had been working on a film called Evil Dead 4: Consequences. In addition to having a horrible title with that whole “consequences” tag, they didn’t have the rights to film a sequel to begin with. Naturally original producers Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell and Rob Tapert filed a suit against Award Pictures and its president Glenn Macrae. Remember back in March of 2005 when Bloody-Disgusting officially declared Freddy vs Jason vs Ash dead? What followed was our exclusive look at the astounding treatment (download it here) that was near-greenlit over at New Line Cinema. Written by Jeff Katz, the project almost took flight until Sam Raimi bailed at the last second only to announce a remake of The Evil Dead, which looks like that will never happen. It was devastating to me personally as I was a huge fan of the treatment and thought that it could have been one hell of a sequel.
