I love a good creature feature, which is why I’m insanely excited for Padraig Reynolds’ indie Rites of Spring (set report), which rocks the all-star cast: Aj Bowen (House Of The Devil, A Horrible Way To Die, The Signal), Anessa Ramsey (The Signal, YellowBrickRoad), Sonny Marinelli (Fallen Faithful, “ER”) Marco St. John (“Treme,” Monster, The Punisher), and Shanna Forrestall (The Last Exorcism). Paramount’s looking for more monsters, setting up an untitled horror project penned by Mark L. Smith (Vacancy, The Hole 3D) with Platinum Dunes partners Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form along with Room 101′s Steven Schneider. Per the usual, the logline’s under wraps other than the story being in the vein of I Am Legend, Aliens and The Descent. Bay, Fuller and Form produced A Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th for New Line and recently entered a new first-look deal at Par, where it’s developing several projects including a remake of Fred Dekker’s Monster Squad. Schneider exec produced Paranormal Activity for Paramount and is prepping the sequel with Jason Blum and Akiva Goldsman. He’s also producing Paranormal director Oren Peli’s follow-up feature Area 51 for Paramount. (more…) READ MORE
Wow, I completely forgot about this project as it has been on the shelf for over three years. Paradox Entertainment, the company bringing Conan back to the bigscreen, has optioned the horror pitch Speed Demon, co-developed by the f/x-vet Stan Winston, for Peter Winther to direct. Winther also developed the project, described as a supernatural actioner about an underworld enforcer, who while hunting a small-time crook on a desert highway discovers that he is also being tracked by a mysterious, terrifying creature. Mike Sorrentino and Randy Vampotic penned the script for the project that Patrick Tatopoulos (the Underworld franchise, I Am Legend) worked with Winston to design creatures for the film. Bloody Disgusting’s John Marrone caught up with director/producer Patrick Rea (THE EMPTY ACRE), who dropped a few new stills from his upcoming feature film Nail Biter, which has just about wrapped up photography. NAIL BITER, written by Rea and Kendal Sinn, is about a mother and her three daughters caught in a Kansas tornado – which instigates an encounter with some rather frightening creatures. Is Rob Zombie really directing Halloween 2? Not only is he hard at work filming Michael Myers’ latest adventure, but he’s also keep your ol’ pals at Bloody-Disgusting busy with loads of updates from the set in Georgia. Today he posted two fun ads that feature Uncle Seymour Coffins from Channel 18′s “Creature Double Feature”. “Check out this old Creature Feature TV guide ad,” writes Zombie. “Coffins is the man!” You can check out the images inside — but before you do that, a little clarification. Bill Moseley is NOT playing Coffins as his he had a conflict of schedule, therefore he was recast (boo!). New name coming soon. (more…) READ MORE
