Quick Bites: Ti West, Two Others Go Sci-Fi; Still No ‘Pride & Prejudice & Zombies’ Director

In a hilarious bit of non-news, THR explains that Lionsgate still has no director for their adaptation of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. Why not report on when they actually have one? The site reports that Lionsgate is considering Craig Gillespie, David Katzenberg, and writer Seth Grahame-Smith to direct the bestselling novel. Grahame-Smith and Katzenberg — who are producing partners — would direct as a team. If they were to sign a deal, it would mark the feature directorial debut for both. READ MORE

SXSW ’11: Ti West’s ‘Innkeepers’ Accepted

Just yesterday French director Xavier Gens leaked info that The Divide will be playing in this March’s SXSW Film Festival. Joining the rounds is Ti West’s latest genre effort, The Innkeepers, which comes courtesy of Dark Sky Films. After over one hundred years of service, The Yankee Pedlar Inn is shutting its doors for good. The last remaining employees –Claire (Sara Paxton) and Luke (Pat Healy)—are determined to uncover proof of what many believe to be one of New England’s most haunted hotels. As the Inn’s final days draw near, odd guests check in as the pair of minimum wage “ghost hunters” begin to experience strange and alarming events that may ultimately cause them to be mere footnotes in the hotel’s long unexplained history. West directed The Roost, Cabin Fever 2 and The House of the Devil. (more…) READ MORE

Best & Worst ’10: HORROR GUY KEENAN’S BOTTOM 5 OF 2010

It is SO much easier to write bad things for films than good things, that’s for damn sure. These films below have stuck out in my head all year as the horror films I wish I had an rusty, jagged, needled filled scrub brush covered in acid to wash the horrid viewings away with. Check ‘em out! (more…) READ MORE

Best & Worst ’10: THEO’S TOP 10 OF 2010

While many would say that this year was ‘slow’ for the horror genre, I would have to firmly disagree. Last year when I was compiling my list of films for my ‘Best Of 2009′, I was having trouble even remembering half the movies I had seen that year. Of course, the top 5 were cemented, but by the time I got past the sixth film on that list things began to get a bit hazy. That was the direct opposite this year as I had to leave out several films that could have easily made the list last year. But alas, there are only 10 spots, and so for all of you gorehounds, big and small, young and old…I give you my look back at the years best films in the horror genre. Read on for the skinny! Today he would like to present to you a new list, “The Top 10 Most Influential Horror Movies You’ve NEVER Even Heard Of (…Let Alone Seen),” all of which were released before Hitchcock’s seminal Psycho. Hammer’s ‘Resident’ Finds A Home At Image

While Hammer’s first “new” film in decades (Overture’s Let Me In) didn’t make much of a splash at the box office, a bit of star power (and an original story) should help The Resident fare much better. Image Entertainment seems to think so, since they just picked up the film for US distribution, according to Variety. The movie stars Oscar winner Hilary Swank (trying horror again after The Reaping, Hammer legend Christopher Lee, and the ever awesome Comedian himself, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and concerns a woman (Swank, I assume, though Morgan could pull it off) who moves into a new place and begins to suspect someone else is already living there. So it’s Hider In The House, but with less Busey? I’ll bite. Using terrible grammar and made up words, Variety says the film will hit theaters in the spring. (more…) READ MORE
