The 5 Best (And 1 Worst) Films Of John Carpenter!!!

I’m a writer/director guy. Meaning, moreso than who starred in any given film, I plan my trip to the theater based on who wrote and/or directed it. When I become invested in someone’s creative output, I’ll often follow their “voice” through all kinds of highs and lows, which means finding things to love in their lesser projects. I understand why the public at large doesn’t have the time or inclination to subscribe to this practice (though many more people seem capable of forging this kind of unbreakable alliance with sports teams), but I honestly think it’s an interesting – and compassionate – way to watch films (or listen to music). Take The Expanded Ultimate Horror Challenge!!! How Do You Rank Now?

We have heard your cries! MANY of you felt that the The Ultimate Horror Challenge wasn’t comprehensive enough! So we included an additional 20 films that round it out a bit more. Many of these are from your suggestions! But this still isn’t a list of every horror movie ever made. And it still doesn’t contain every major work of every horror auteur (there’s still no John Carpenter’s They Live or Wes Craven’s The Last House On The Left). READ MORE

Take The Ultimate Horror Challenge!!! What’s Your Score?

This isn’t a list of every horror movie ever made. Nor does it contain every major work of every horror auteur (you’ll notice we didn’t include John Carpenter’s They Live or Wes Craven’s The Last House On The Left). Rather, this is a compendium of films that we feel – in one way or another – are essential viewing for every horror fan. Some are mainstream (Poltergeist), some aren’t (Cannibal Holocaust). It’s a broad sampling of key films from the genre. READ MORE

‘Grabbers’ Quad/Character Posters Channel H.P. Lovecraft!

H.P. Lovecraft. Is there anyone cooler in the world of horror? His slimy, creepy, creatures of the underworld are so hideous that they’re beyond description. I’m an immediate sucker for anything related (which is probably why John Carpenter’s In the Mouth of Madness and Stuart Gordon’s Re-Animator are among my favorite horror films of all-time.) Amber Heard to Topline John Carpenter’s ‘The Ward’

The legendary John Carpenter (Halloween, The Fog, In the Mouth of Madness, The Thing), will direct The Ward, written by Michael and Shawn Rasmussen. Amber Heard (All the Boys Love Mandy Lane) has signed on to star. The Ward is an intense psychological thriller set in a mental institution where a young woman, Kristen (played by Heard) is haunted by a mysterious and deadly ghost. As danger creeps closer, she comes to realize that this ghost might be darker than she could have imagined. Production is scheduled for a May start. (more…) READ MORE

Review: John Carpenter’s ‘Cigarette Burns’

In my opinion Showtime’s Masters of Horror (all reviews) anthology has not been living up to my expectation, and finally after seven boring episodes I’m all pumped up for the next. Word on the net is that John Carpenter’s Cigarette Burns is awesome, the single best episode in season one thus far. Inside you can read Tex Massacre’s review for the one-hour episode, and check out reruns this week on Showtime… (more…) READ MORE
