While production has been shut down in Montreal, we did a little digging and have landed some potential casting news for Universal Pictures’ Riddick, which is being directed by franchise creator David Twohy. We’re being told that offers were made to Andreas Apergis, Katee Sackhoff (White Noise 2: The Light, Growl, The Haunting in Georgia), Bokeem Woodbine (Total Recall, Devil) and WWE wrestler Dave Bautista (The Scorpion King 3: Battle for Redemption). Solar Eclipse Brings Alien Invasion in ‘Transmission’

Bob Hoskins (Doomsday), Jason Flemying (The 4th Reich , Dead Cert, Solomon Kane) and Talulah Riley (Inception) are set and Willem Dafoe (Antichrist) is in talks to star in a new alien invasion pic titled Transmission. The film, Moviehole has learned, is being developed by Gold Films (who are Giles Alderson with his writing, producing partner Martin Owen) and is a British sci-fi feature being shot in 3D and centered around an alien invasion during an solar eclipse. The film is described as Pitch Black meets 28 Days Later. Roger Christian, the Oscar Winning art director of Star Wars, is in talks to direct the film. (more…) READ MORE

Ring in the New Year with 10 Futuristic Horror Films

The beginning of a new decade is always a great time for reflection – both on what’s come before and where we’re headed. Cinematically, countless writers and directors have given us their visions of the future, both near and far – some dystopian and rugged, others shiny and overflowing with astonishing new technologies. We’ve learned from past experience not to take their ideas all that seriously (weren’t we supposed to have flying cars by now?), but it’s a lot of fun to entertain the notion of a future world bearing little resemblance to our own. In the horror genre, this future world is almost uniformly presented as a dark, hostile place, filled with malevolent organisms that would sooner rip your head off than engage in a “meaningful dialogue”. To celebrate these films, and to mark the new decade, I’ve listed ten of the best. Let’s just hope our real-world destiny is a lot more hospitable. (more…) READ MORE

A really cool website was launched for Rogue Pictures’ A Perfect Getaway that features all sorts of goodies, along with three clips that can also be found beyond the break. Directed by David Twohy (Pitch Black), Steve Zahn plays a newlywed whose Hawaiian honeymoon becomes a nightmare when he and his bride (Milla Jovovich) are stalked by two killers (Timothy Olyphant). This afternoon the first trailer and a bunch of new stills were released from David Twohy’s (Pitch Black) forthcoming A Perfect Getaway, which stars Timothy Olyphant, Steve Zahn, Milla Jovovich and Kiele Sanchez. In the film Zahn plays a newlywed whose Hawaiian honeymoon becomes a nightmare when he and his bride (Jovovich) are stalked by two killers (Timothy Olyphant). March 2009 Release For MGM’s ‘A Perfect Getaway’

MGM has slated A Perfect Getaway for release on March 13, 2009. Directed by David Twohy (Pitch Black), the film stars Timothy Olyphant, Steve Zahn, Milla Jovovich and Kiele Sanchez in which Olyphant will play a newlywed whose Hawaiian honeymoon becomes a nightmare when he and his bride are stalked by two killers. Classic Sci-Fi/Horror Film Follows ‘The Men Who Fell’?

CHUD and Dread Central just reported on this incredible looking indie film entitled The Men Who Fell. At first is sounded like your typical Pitch Black meets Below, but after viewing the trailer I think we’re in for much, much more.
