this movie has a special place in my heart and always will, this is THE film that got me started in the genre, ever since i was a kid and saw phantasm, i was instantly hooked

Since B-D decided to reset itself during my 2500 word review, I lost all the reasons why I am rating the movie the way I am. Frankly, I don’t feel like redoing it. I’ll try to do points with no depth…
    1) Great imagination and creativity
    2) Bad acting
    3) Lack of build
    4) Shallow characters
    5) No core or base. Like a tree with no trunk
    6) The movie doesn’t know if it is horror or supernatural thriller. Fails to be both and either.

In summation, this movie wants to be serious, but doesn’t execute well. I consider the 70s and 80s of horror to be the pinnacle of imagination and creativity, but this 1978 doesn’t fit in with its Italian roots, not does it stand alone. It isn’t an atrocity, but it isn’t really good. It is like the Paris Hilton of movies: it had everything going for it, but it failed itself. It is worth renting to kill some time, but it isn’t good or bad enough to buy.

Only 2 user reviews so far? Wtf? This IS a horror website right? I’m so confused. Must be a lot of kids on here.

Phantasm is a classic, creepy, unique sort of horror film. Angus Scrimm is genuinely freaky in his iconic Tall Man role. Don’t let the movie’s age fool you, this is one of the best horror fantasy films you will ever see.

The sequels are all really good as well.

I was eight years old when i saw this back in the day. It scared the crap out of me.The creep factor was very high for its time. The good old days of horror when originality existed.Love the 70′s and 80′s Horror.

I think Phantasm was really well done. It was a very freaky and imaginative film. Also I found the Tall Man to be one of the scariest horror monsters back then in the 70s. The Phantasm theme was another great part of the film. It’s also my favorite theme out of all the Horror themes there were in the history of Horror movies.

What can i say that this is still a good movie till this day a true classic very original and a must see for any horror fan BOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Recently watched this again on Netflix. Maybe back in the day was scary or good, but really didn’t feel like it was either. Part of me thinks its because I’m older now, but I found it more laughable than scary, but Angus Scrimm does make for a menacing force, but really is left with nothing to do, and the sphere with the blades is a cool concept but really does nothing either. Just found the writing and the acting choppy, but that’s just me.

HIghly original, very entertaining low budget classic! This movie thought outside the box, it mixes a bit of sci-fi with nice atmospheric horror. They do not make them like this anymore, if they did the CGI would destroy it! Highly recommended, but not for everyones taste.
