THIS IS THE ONE WITH THE SLEEPING BAG KILL!
For anyone who was curious.
I saw just a clip of this movie years and years ago with the sleeping bag kill and loved it. Since then I had no idea which Friday movie had that scene. After rewatching almost all of them I found it. Hilarious.
Anyways, this one’s a lot of fun. and as you can see to your right Jason gets unmasked here, and actually looks pretty cool.
best movie ever
My favorite one, good story, great kills and Jason with his mask off! Nuff said!
wow i think this movie really sucked the story line was too cheesy and jason looked stupid as hell every friday the 13th that came after the 4th one really strayed away from the original stories, besides in this one (even though i liked the kills) there are way too many people who come out of no where and get killed, it was really confusing
A bit of a cobblers instalment into the Friday The 13th canon. This is especially disappointing after the headway made by the two prior entries, but this perfunctory, uninspired retread just doesn’t cut it. (And as the story revolves around a girl who gets psychic powers after reaching puberty, then maybe the subtitle wasn’t such a good idea either) The dialogue is trite and clichéd, while acting is corny and second-rate. Not that such qualities are unique in the Friday series of course. And check out the cracking 80s frizz-mullet on Tina’s mother.
There’s a welcome return of gratuitous nudity to the series, and some of the killings are quite inventive (the sleeping bag tree smack particularly) even if this did turn out to be the most heavily edited instalment. But while this might be the new blood, everything else about this movie is old-hat. The plot – if indeed it can be called that – sees a two-strand narrative between Tina and her psychiatrist (yawn) and Jason, who, in a virtual support role, just butchers loads of randy teens. For a change. The monotony of such events, and the tiresome, rigid adherence to the “death after sex” principle, fails to maintain interest.
Only moment to engender any kind of charm sees nerdy Eddie open a box marked “Personal Penis Enlarger”… only to find a magnifying glass inside! However, as this “comedy” character is a stereotyped SF fan it makes him almost as bland as the other victims-by-numbers. And when Jason face down in a puddle, electrocuted, rises up… well it’d be more of a surprise if he DIDN’T get back up. But instead we’ve got ten more minutes left so Tina’s Carrie gets to battle it out with Jason’s SuperPsycho. It’s all a bit silly and completely outside the original remit by now.
Further entries have so far seen the franchise attempt to operate outside its usual parameters, with Paramount’s final entry, Jason Takes Manhattan, transporting the character, for a few minutes anyway, into downtown New York. An okay, yet not great, throwaway work, it sees the character killed and revert to a small boy. Not that such plot developments worried New Line, who took over the franchise and had an inexplicably restored Jason killed again and possessing bodies in the execrable Jason Goes To Hell (q.v.). Finally, New Line seem to have gotten the formula right with arguably the best sequel, the shallow but fun Jason in Space antics of Jason X. As for The New Blood, then it isn’t actually a bad entry by any means… just very, very forgettable. Give it a miss. 4/10.
Now friday starts to lose the magic. This movie while i own it, is a let down. The idea of bringing in new powers for the victims really sounds great but does not work well. This was a bad decision but not horrible. The movie is entertaining. But jason is not as special as he was before this film. Don’t get excited about this one.
This movie aint’ that great.
WARNING SPOILERS AHEAD IF YOU HAVEN’T SEEN THIS MOVIE DON’T READ THIS REVIEW
So the movie starts out with little Tina hearing her father beat her mom in their cabin (or house?). So Tina runs out of the house, jumps into a boat on a Crystal Lake dock, and it floats into the lake. Tina’s dad runs outside and asks Tina to come back. Being an annoying 5 – 8 year old kid she says something along the lines of “No Daddy I hate you I wish you were dead!” And this is where some stupid crap happens. Apparently, Tina has psychokinetic powers, and accidentally drowns her father in the lake. And then, older teenage Tina wakes up. Can’t have an 80′s horror movie without some sort of a flashback or a dream sequence. So somehow Tina’s doctor from the mental home thinks it’s just a great idea for Tina to just come on back to ol’ Crystal Lake to somehow help her! Well it’s not because Tina has these little images of the future that keep popping up and her doctor keeps telling her she’s having delusions. Then Tina goes to Crystal Lake and they try to make a drama scene cause’ she’s all like, “I’m so sorry daddy I didn’t mean to do that I miss you boo hoo hoo.” So then she channels all of her powers to raise her dad back up from the lake to re-animate him. Now you had to see FT13 Pt. VI to know why Jason’s under the lake, but she just magically wakes him up. Oh crap.So then there’s the movie… La la….. Teenagers…….. Partying….. Sex….. Drugs…. Booze….. The normal stuff until the end of the movie where Tina kills Jason. This is the absolute dumbest part of the movie. Tina brings up her dead dad from the lake to put a chain around Jason and drag him back down under.
I recommend this movie if you are a die-hard Friday fan, but not if you just say “Hey lets just watch this.”
This wasn’t as good as 1-4… but still better than part 5 or Jason X… it was ok and worth a watch
The best ‘Friday the 13th’ film. I can’t believe I’m actually saying this but I somewhat enjoyed this film. It was reasonably interesting, well-made, and this time the acting WASN’T unbearable. If there was a fire, and I had to save a ‘Friday the 13th’ film, I would contemplate saving the original, but then I’d choose style over substance and grab this one.
Not as good as part 6 but still a fun film to watch. This is also known as Carrie vs. Jason which I thought was a bit stupid but this still was one of my favorites in the series. The last good Friday the 13th film. The gore was great, it had the same cabins as part 4 I liked the story (the part where Tina resurrects Jason) I thought the “Carrie” powers were a kinda dull. But overall this still was a good sequel. I did however like the battle at the end. But this did have some errors. But I would still recommended it.
This was a great sequel. The music was classic and this was also Kane Hodder’s first appearence as Jason Voorhees. Kane Hodder made a fantastic first impression on his take of Jason Voorhees. The storyline was very good, although not as good as part 6. Still a very good movie.
It was funny to see Jason fight Carrie(just jocking)but jason looked really scary for me and the deaths were really awesome so this isnt bad or good but at least its something.
This is one of my favorites in the series. I thought Jason Lives was too silly and this one was more serious.
Creative parts but plot is still lacking.
Even better than Jason Lives and the best sequel since part 4.
Hopefully we’ll get an uncut version someday.
interesting match for jason this time around made this film a bit more different than the usual ones. very fun horror film and the first time kane hodder would portray jason vorhees
Wasnt too bad. It was weird with the psychic girl fighting Jason. But he still whooped ass.
This was a bit corny but the death scenes were good.
A step up from Jason Lives. What makes this entry seem slightly fresher is the character of Tina, a girl with psychic powers who comes to Crystal Lake. Finally a character who can stand up to Jason and fight instead of running around screaming. This had good kills and the scene of Jason being resurrected from the lake was a good set piece plus we get to see Zombie Jason unmasked. Still , if you’ve seen the previous 6 then you have seen this. A lot better then the next one to come though…
Friday the 13th Part VII is my guilty little pleasure. Sure it has terrible acting, worse dialogue and the story redefines the word minimal but damnit I like this little unpretentious slasher.
The movie begins with a really sweet voice over by Walt “Crazy Ralph” Gorney filled with clips from the previous movies and showing the ending of the sixth film. It’s a really great way to get you primed for the carnage that’s about to ensue. Tina Shepard (Lar Park Lincoln) is a girl with psychic powers who accidentally kills her abusive father at Crystal Lake. Ten years later she returns with her mother (Susan Blu) and psychiatrist, Dr. Crews (Terry Kiser), to the site of the incident to face her fears and get on with her life. The psychiatrist however, has ulterior motives to use her powers for his own gain. In a moment of distress Tina accidentally uses her telekinesis to break the chains around Jason who is currently residing at the bottom of the lake after the events in the previous film. He proceeds to return and descend upon a house of teenagers who have rented the cabin next door for the weekend.
Ok not the greatest set up of all time but at least the writers tried to put some kind of spin on the premise that frankly was beginning to wear thin after six of the same thing. Of all the alternate Jason storylines (New Blood, Jason Takes Manhattan, Jason Goes to Hell, Jason X, Freddy vs. Jason) this one actually works the best. It helps of course that VII’S alteration is much more superficial than the others and not nearly as drastic as say, space. Or not having Jason in the film except for a total of maybe three minutes (I’m looking at you Jason Goes to Hell! What were you guys thinking??). Speaking of other sequels though, those expecting to find the sly humor and action movie pace of the last installment will be looking for a long time. Special effects wizard turned director John Carl Buechler plays things pretty straight here and the humor in the film is unintentional except for maybe one or two lines. I personally liked this return to more straightforward popcorn horror but Buechler’s short comings as a director also float to the surface as a result. The movie suffers from looking pretty cheap and the atmosphere is not nearly as present as it was in any of the last films. The movie also sports some truly terrible dialogue. The actors do a serviceable job playing their requisite stereotypes that have been in place since the beginning. The problem with this is that the film can tend to drag a bit when Jason isn’t doing his thing. None of these things are important though, people watch these movies for two things: boobs, and sweet deaths. This delivers both. It’s pointless to talk about the boobs as you have to see those to appreciate them but I will give my two cents on the kills. The kills are a very sore spot with the Friday faithful we’ve all seen the workprints and the alternate shots of the kills. They are classic and if by some miracle they had made it past the commies at the MPAA this one maybe could have gone down as one of the best sequels hands down. Unfortunately that was not to be as the MPAA demanded they cut all of the gore out. What we’re left with are some pretty great implied kills but the fact that Buechler failed to shoot any alternate shots the editing is obvious and can be a little jarring. It really sucks that the whole reason you allowed Buechler to direct this movie was for his special effects work and the MPAA cut him out at the knees. Where Buechler really shines though is his take on the look of Jason. He really looks like he should after rotting for 10 years at the bottom of a lake. He’s wet, decomposing with all of his wounds from past films accounted for, even bones protruding! It’s really a cool look and as an added bonus this is the debut of Kane Hodder as Jason. He really plays Jason great making him angry and menacing.
I know my review has sounded pretty damning but I find myself re-watching this one a lot. I think the reason is that all of its shortcomings give it a kind of charm. You can tell that the makers of this movie tried to give us what we wanted but were really screwed by the censors. So give this one a shot it’s got some great deaths and a great cheap movie charm. Long live Jason vs. Carrie!
To me their is nothing better then coming home to a nice corpsefest slasher movie. Not an award winning production but still a fun film none the less. The Chick with the psycic power was a little much but still a fun little film. Jason Vorhees is a unstopable machine
Best looking Jason. Worst fucking plot.
Oh dear oh dear…how could they go so wrong! Ok the main problem I have with Friday the 13th part VII is the storyline..it’s stupid, it’s more than stupid its as if they went “you know what, we can’t use Freddy so we have this psychic teenager who has Mystical powers and even bigger issues”….the upside is that the deaths are good (although heavily cut) I wish they would bring out the complete unedited version….and as for the final confrontation….one word “what the F@#k”….
if the film didn’t have the annoying psychic element and was a straight forward Friday the 13th film, I would love it but sadly no….it’s a shame.
This is a pretty good sequel. It’s a lot better than Part V, but isn’t as good as Part VI. Tina has telekinetic powers and accidentally resurrects Jason. She has to battle him using her powers like Carrie at the Prom! It’s awesome! It’s also cool that we see what Jason looks like. He is more of a monster now. If you love Carrie, and the Friday the 13th series, you’ll love FRIDAY THE 13TH PART VII: THE NEW BLOOD!!!
p.s. I can’t wait for the remake!
Terry Kiser should’ve come walking out of the woods at the end with his Bernie garb on!!!! Not bad, but it could use an uncut edition. The kills were severely edited!!!
In my opinion, the third best in the series behind four and six. I don’t know why people hate on this one so much. It’s a fun installment for the Friday the 13th series that was just unfairly edited too much.
Good movie.
dont know why but i love this entry, plus jason looks incredable in this one!!!
One of those movies that sounds freaking awesome but then you watch it and you’re left with that feeling of “meh”.
I could’ve done with more telekinetic fighting and less of the stupid teenagers and their stupid problems. Plus this movie sets us up for the worst one in the franchise.
Don’t get me wrong I understand that all the Friday the 13th films are suppose to be cheesy and unrealistic, but this movie just sucked. I despised of the trash they call a “story line”. Come on, Carrie vs. Jason? The whole fun of watching a Friday the 13th films was to see its cliches and the struggle of main characters. The plot was recycled before, so it wasn’t as original as everyone makes it out to be. I know that the director tried to do something new, but it was dumb.
Also the characters in this one are just stupid. All they want to do is party and sleep with each other. The kills in this one were also unimpressive and seemed lacking. The only redeeming thing about this movie is the sleeping bag kill, but that’s it.
The new blood was a slow, boring, and tedious effort that tried way too hard to be something it wasn’t. I understand a Friday the 13th film is cheesy, but not boatloads of cheese. I feel offended as a Jason fanatic. Very disappointing. Even, the sleeping bag kill you can watch on Youtube.
It wasn’t bad, I mean it was ok! I don’t know..I guess I’ll just let this one stand where it is in the series.
The high points: Kane Hodder’s first time in the role, the best Jason make-up of the series…um that’s it. The Storyline is stupid, the actors terrible & the gore was butchered out by the MPAA.
Hey I don’t know what everyone is talking about, I liked this one. I know that all the good gore effects were taken out due to it being later in the series and the rules were getting a little stricter, but Kane Hodder is the best Jason ever and did a great job. It was nice to see Jason Voorhees have some competition since Tommy Jarvis.
Kane Hodder Finally!..I tink this sequel lacked story and the whole telekinetic thing was a bit over the edge but Jason was awsome in this film. He showed so much strength in the kills and in his destruction. I think his look got the upgrade it needed in this fim but the story didn’t.
As a fan of all the great 80′s Slasher films this is just about as good as any other Friday the 13th IMO. Not sure about the telekinesis, however every thing else about the film is classic Jason. Killing is creative and brutal and Jason looks pretty unstoppable.
WTF??? i thought i told you idiots to stop bringing Jason to life so that he can end the franchise!
seriously, a woman with psychic powers just isn’t good. i’ll admit, Kane Hodder made a good Jason in this movie.
and how the hell did Jason meet his match (according to the tagline)? all he did was go up against a psychic prostitute! if he were to meet his match, this telekinetic bi*** would wear a hockey mask and carry an overgrown knife and would kill off the actors so that they wouldn’t find any more actors to star in any further Friday the 13th movies and would cancel the franchise altogether!
hmm yea ok
Not anywhere near the greatest Friday film but it’s still entertaining. Jason looks amazing and Kane Hodder did a great job. Im not a big fan of Tina having powers, the acting was ok, and the mpaa really screwed the kills over. The movie overall is entertaining and good.
Jason vs Carrie…how could any fan NOT love this?!? Interesting concept which played out pretty well, and featuring one of the coolest looking Jason’s ever. My only real issue is with the actress used for the lead girl with all the mental muscle. She sucked. Plain and simple, a terrible actress! Not that many of the other actors were much better, but she was hands down the worst, and for the lead, that’s a huge WTF were they thinking? Highly recommended for the concept and cool Jason portrayal…they make up for the other short comings.
A lot of bad acting in this one, the kills are great though. But the effects were really cheezy.
I’ll give the rundown:
*Best-looking Jason ever (the way his skeleton shows through is a nice touch)
*Some great stunts and action sequences
*Interesting plot about the girl with psychic powers
This is one of the better entries in the series IMO. Only thing is that it lacks the gore scenes because of censorship.
To me the best of the sequels! well i dont know close between 4,6,and 7.The 09 sequel was great too just not quite as much as these three.
this movie had the best unmasked jason.
This was o.k but clearly a decline in the series. The make up was good and Kane Hodder is definitely the 2nd best Jason. The ending of this film was worst than Pt.2 and I thought that was impossible.
Bullets don’t do nothing, but light bulbs and cut-off head butts knock him on his ass.
Bad..nothing more.
This is where the series really declined.
i liked this one but it sets kills to much. like there is no story really its just the next kill to the next kill. jason looks great in this movie. and kane hodder was incredible as jason
i liked it
A classic Friday the 13th but the Franchise really goes down hill after part 8.
I liked this one but not into the whole telikinetic thing.Sleeping bag death still one my faves.
the deaths in this movie were not that good, not that gory at all, the acting didn’t help the movie all, i did not care if Jason killed them or not.
Jason himself was not scary and for some reason his head seem to look 10X bigger then Part 6, make up effect was really bad too, Who ever did the makeup for Jason as never seen the other Friday 13th movie.
This was worst Friday 13th movie of the series for me, i didn’t like anything about it.
One of my favorites in the series. Very fun and entertaining!
Bad.
Why oh why did they have to make a character telekeneitc(sorry if spelled wrong lol)!!! I just don’t get how these writers come up with such bullshit! I mean really, at first I was gonna just go with it, decided I wasn’t gonna let that aspect of the story get in the way of the bloodshed, but the ending when her fucking dad comes out of the lake and pulls Jason in!!!!WTF!!!That made absolutely no sense at all!By far the worst ending in horror movie history IMO. The only good thing about this movie was the sleeping bag kill, thats about it. Could have been one of the best in the series, but because of crackhead writers is definitely one of the worst.
Friday The 13th Part 7 The New Blood finally brought the series back to it’s serious and gory roots since part 6 brought the series back to its serious rots. This is probably the goriest and the bloodiest in all of the Friday The 13th films. As the Friday The 13th series gets darker and gorier this one is the darkest and the goriest since Jason Goes To Hell. This movie has a nice plot just like Jason Lives. What’s great about The New Blood is that the film is like a crossover horror film you know like Freddy VS Jason but here this movie is like Carrie VS Jason two horro icons fighting. I mean that was a wicked cool idea Jason is fighting a girl who has telekinetic powers (similar to Carrie White from Stephen King’s Carrie)that was a really cool idea. This is also Kane Hodder’s first appearance as Jason Voorhes. I also like the gore and violence in the film. Usually the best kill scene in this film is the sleeping bag death scene where Jason kills a girl by hitting her in the tree six times and the blood comes out of the sleeping bag. I also like the death scene when one guy gets his head squeezed down like a walnut that is one of the bloodiest kills in Part 7 The New Blood. I also remember a scene when Jason kills the other guy by throwing a knife or axe and he pushes it even further and the blood comes out of his mouth that was also a disgusting scene. The acting from the casts did a good job also with their performances in the film so far. I also like Jason’s make up it looks really nice and it was the best Jason make up since the make up in Friday The 13th Part 6 Jason Lives. Director John Carl Buechler (who also worked on the special effects in the film) did a good job with his directing in the film since Tom McLoughlin’s directing in Jason Lives. John Carl Buechler did a good job with bringing the Friday The 13th franchise back to its serious and gory roots so far. Overall Friday The 13th Part 7 The New Blood is the best in the later on sequels of Friday The 13th since part 6 Jason lives
New Blood? Did Jason have his blood replaced? Another terrible installment to the franchise, which I am surprised has lasted so many decades with all of the terrible installments. Telekinesis? Really? DAMMIT. More information here:
http://thewolfmancometh.com/2011/02/14/friday-the-13th-part-vii-the-new-blood-1988/
I know I’m probably in the minority, but I like this one better than pt.6. Jason is still a godamned zombie, but at least he’s not treated like a joke as he was in pt 6. Jason’s back to being a badass and Kane Hodder makes him menacing again. Unfortunately the censors came down hard on this movie, so there’s a lack of gore. Also, why are people saying how ‘unrealistic’ a girl with telekinetic powers is? You’re watching a series about a deformed retarded kid who lived at the bottom of a lake and was later turned into a zombie! One thing this movie has is that, for the first time, Jason actually has someone who can match him in a fight. The ending to this one is pretty stupid, but it was the last decent F13 movie for a LONG time.
I like the fight scene at the end, but it the rest of it is just OK, but Kane Hodder is great as Jason.
I like the fight scene at the end, but it the rest of it is just OK, but Kane Hodder is great as Jason.
Take a group of young people out to party, a messed up girl with telekinesis and a hockey-mask-wearing killing machine, mix them together, and what do you get? Another awesome Friday the 13th movie, that’s what! Possibly my favorite out of them all. Don’t overthink it too much. Its a slasher movie. Let it be what it is.
Garbage. I am huge Friday the 13th fan, and I have been since I first started liking horror movies. This is when the series starting turning into shit. This movie along with parts 8, 9 and 10 are absolute garbage. Who thought of the plot of this movie and decided it was a good idea? It’s basically Carrie vs Jason! The telekinetic idea was so ridiculous… I mean, I know it’s a movie about an undead serial killer constantly returning to a campground to kill people, but come on.. telekinetic abilities?? The best Jason movies are parts 2, 4, 6 and the remake. Stay away from this crap. The only good thing in this movie is Jason’s look, and a couple of the deaths. (The MPAA raped this movie though.)
Zombie Jason escaped the water burial no surprise there. The first time Kane Hodder wears the mask and this is the best one he’s in. He is arguably the best Jason in terms of his stuntwork and dedication to the role having reprized it 4 times when everyone else only did it once! The highlight of this one has got to be the ending battle of Tina and Jason, Kanes stuntwork is amazing he falls through stairs, gets set on fire etc. It’s a shame that this was butchered by the censors (You can see the uncut kills in the deluxe edition but in rather low quality) and that Kane’s time as Jason were in mainly the bad entries of the series but that’s no fault of his own.
