This was a great follow up to the first! Definitely recommended!!!
‘Halloween II’ is awesome because it grooves right off the vibe from the original. One of the problems here is John Carpenter isn’t directing. I will always love ‘Halloween II’ for being the film in the series I probably saw the most on cable television, and giving me a whole new outlook on the song, ‘Mr. Sandman’. But, upon repeated viewings (the latest being this last Halloween holiday), regrettably I find the film drags like a motherfucker. Carpenter’s original was a slow-burn, but an expertly-crafted one with an air of impending doom that was well-worth the wait. This is Micael Myers at General Hospital. I found the setting boring, and lacking the atmosphere of a small-town neighborhood on Halloween night. Jamie Lee is back, but acts like a vegetable for most of this outing. The characters are lame, forgettable, and much more in the vein of a body-count than people you actually care about. Granted, I wasn’t shedding a tear in the original when characters met their demise, but at least I was pulling for Laurie Strode, Dr. Loomis, Tommy Doyle and Lindsay Wallace. Here, you’re kind of left with nothing but anticipating the next kill. I blame the Carpenter/Hill script, but also Rick Rosenthal’s lame-duck point-and-shoot approach to the material. Rick returns to prove this point with the abortion, ‘Halloween: Resurrection’ years later.
I sound uber-negative, but there is much to like about this film: Michael Myers killing people/death by whirlpool/hypodermic needle to the temple/hammer-head/bat-shit Loomis/Laurie being related to Michael/eyeball shoot-out and ‘flame-on’ climax.
Though ‘Halloween II’ has its problems, but it’s still one of the best sequels and feels most like the original out of the lot of them.
YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT DEATH IS!
Almost better than the original.
This movie is seriously underrated. It’s almost as good as the 1st… I also kind of know the guy that played the shape in this one… Dick Warlock…
Good sequel probably as good as sequel as most franchises will get. Recommend it.
I thought the sequel was an excellent film it was actully the first halloween film I had ever seen! I saw it when I was 10 years in 1994 on the USA network and it’s scared the shit out of me when I was a kid. I’ll never forget how well put together it was the only complaint I had was besides Loomis,Lauri and Brackett you really don’t care for the newly added characters like bud your just somebody stab this dude already and the other dumb bimdo nurse that get’s iced by the hot tub. It’s still a great film and on the better Halloween sequels.
I love this film, continues right where the original left off, the hospital is unoccupied and creepy, as micheal makes his way through the corridors, and loomis is back being his crazy self, and ranting about how evil Micheal is, also we learn about why Micheal has targeted Laurie, im sure u all know, but if u dont i wont ruin it
awesome sequel, watch it
One of the best sequels ever!!!
Clever starting right where the original left off.
We learn Michael’s backstory and why he wants to kill Laurie. Best sequel in the series. Different from the original. This time it was very gory but we still had the suspense back from the original.
Characters were actually decent. And the storytelling was well done. Probably the best Slasher sequel ever.
This movie was pretty good. not as good as the original but the movie still had a good plot, still had tghe same actors and you find out michaels reasons for going after laurie.
Absolutely the third best of the series i was really happy to see michael myers back to the bid screen too bad the one that comes after this one is the worst of the series.
Not terrible, but nowhere near as good as the original. More kills, more mayhem, with daytime television quality production values.
Great in the sense that it was just as if you paused in the middle of the first one and it was really a four hour movie.Everything was right in the spirit of the original but Carpenter’s directing talents would have the movie literaly just as good as the first but what are you gonna do I guess. Also, the plot was a little…well…not there. It just seemed like there wasn’t enough story. Still a great flick though.
The biggest flaw is carrying over the “Halloween” name which im sure confuses fans of michael myers, understandable, but i look past that botch and enjoy the movie for what it is, original, strange and a good halloween story that no other movie is like.
Greatist slasher of all time. I love all the Halloweens.
Great sequel to a great movie.
an excellent sequel that carries the suspense and terror of the original.
just as good as th first one
This movie is awesome, I personally think that it is nearly as good as the Original, the story picks up right where the last one left off, the music was good, acting was good, everything about it is good, this is THE perfect sequel to a movie, I recommend this to any horror fan
This movie was amazing! Not as good as the original but still fucking awesome! It continues on from the first one on the same night, laurie is in hospital and michael is still after her. The deaths got a little bit more violent, but still no real serious gore. The acting was still legendary, the suspense and tension was through the roof. The atmosphere was awesome just like the original and to top it all off michael is still a bad ass motherfucker! This movie was just like the original except for a few reasons.
1. Set in a hospital
2. Deaths a bit more savage and violent
3. Different murder weapons then just the classic large knife.
Overall this was the best sequel I have seen for a slasher movie and was pure genuis but the original will always stand stronger. I give halloween 2 a 10/10.
Outstanding sequel to the greatest horror movie ever made. In many ways Halloween 1 & 2 are just one long movie, because they are both perfect and flawless. I love that this movie takes place exactly where the original left off. Highly recommend this movie.
this is a great sequel to a classic. I like the way it continues the story. The way michael burns up in the end is classic.
The best part in this movie has to be when Michael gets shot in the eyes and he just randomly slashes into thin air
as good as this movie was the music wasn’t that good it sounded too disco
A great sequel, with one of the best lines from my second favorite movie character of all-time, Dr.Loomis. “We’re all afraid of the dark inside ourselves”—-Halloween II. See it…before you go trick or treating!!!!
I think I’ve watched this over the years more than the first one. Especially when USA used to show horror movies two or three day before halloween. This movie messes quite well with the first one with out being a complete ripoff the first one. One of my spooky favorites
This stands as one of the best horror sequels ever made (along with Evil Dead II IMO) What I truly love about it, is how we already know about Michael Myers, we know that he is the maniac, but yet, he remains just as scary, if not scarier than in the first film. The film as a whole is not as scary as the original, but it’s the closest yet. I found Michael using a scalpel quite scary as well.
Classic. Good as the first!
aside from the first, this is the best entry in the halloween series. picks up right where the first left us. if you like this, and the original, stay as far, far, far away from rob zombies awful hackjob remake. dosent do halloween any justice whatsoever.
the portrayal of the shape in this entry is spectacular
i love this sequel!
i love how its like 5 min after the ending of the first
this movie is so great!
i love the deaths and i like how its the same night of the first and in a hospital!
chase scene rules!
This movie actually traumatized me for a little bit. The reason. The day after i watched this movie, i broke my leg and had to to the hospital. So for the next 2 days of being in the hospital (i would have been out earlier cept i couldnt move cuz i hurt my back pretty bad) I was freaked out by any shadow that walked pass the door. O did i mention it was on Halloween. Yeah cuz that freaked the shit out of me
Good ass sequal.
This movie isint really that good and has NOTHING to do with the rest of the series. That said, for some reason i love it and whenever i watch it i sing that damn song for weeks.
Good movie.
pure suspense, i love how everyone working at the hospital is killed by michael, and laurie has to escape. pure classic continuation of the series, although the first i think is better
right up there with the origional this one sticks to the halloween formula,a very enjoyable movie indeed!
The second best film in the Halloween Franchise, an excellent sequel that carries the suspense and terror of the original.
not as good as teh first one, but a decent film.
Number 1:
A few of you have confused this with part 3 (Season of the Witch). How? I have nooo clue.
But to review the film and say it is not as good or call it a bad film because YOU were mistaken is wrong and really kind of stupid.
#2. If any of you have watched the Halloween: Hell and Horror in Haddonfield dvd you would see that part 2 stand up just fine to part one as there is NO break in the story or action. It is in fact ONE film split between two parts. Carpenter was genius in doing that.
As for part 3 (Season of the Witch), it has been stated for years that the film makers themselves consider it a mistake to have used the Halloween name on the film. Why is this still a topic of discussion between fans? The film is an ok horror film. But it is not part of the Halloween series as we know it…end it now. Stop bashing the film saying it sucks because Michael was not in it. Ok Ok…you got your point across…AGAIN…now shut it.
Typical sequel fair. Never really cared for this one myself.
i consider this and halloween one movie and the single greatest example of old school horror ever. however if i had to choose between them id probably rather see this
personally this one is my favorite, and a good reason i will never enter a hospital late at night…
this is the best of the halloween series in my opinion…yes, better than the first. of course it is nothing without the first, but it clearly makes up for the weaknesses of the first.
in part 1, michael is constantly choking people and they pratically do nothing to fight back, for extended periods of time…annie’s death is just pitiful in my opinion. …and there’s little things, like laurie stabs him once and just throws the knife to the ground and walks away, as if anyone in so much shock would not be a little protective or paranoid at that point. they set up the mood okay but the whole movie comes off like they’re just figuring out how to do it, which they were of course.
part 2 on the other hand has a bit freakier-looking michael..the mask is a little beat up and deformed at that point. he truly walks around like pure evil; you can see the deadness in his eyes and his walk. he is sneakier, more brutal, and doesn’t give the victims much of a chance to fight back…and when they do they lose. it isn’t super gory, but it’s enough to make you cringe and actually fear him and think you might not stand a chance against him. …just right.
the nearly empty hospital with michael lurking the halls…to this day i have not seen a movie with such a creepy, effective atmosphere. perfect for suspense and mystery, and many great areas for chase scenes.
as the BD review said, the chases with laurie are more realistic because she’s injured, tired, and drugged. no chase scene in slasher history (IMO) can compare to the scene where she’s in the parking lot trying to get to loomis and the others and he appears under the orange light…to this day i’m still on the edge of my seat when i watch that part even though i know the outcome. …much more effective than the equivalent scene in the first movie.
i first saw these movies at 7 or 8 yrs old (TV cuts of course – so minus most of the violence), and i distinctly remember the michael of part 2 keeping me up at night…i swore he was lurking in the shadows…i swore i heard breathing. i was terrified of him. yet the michael of part 1 didn’t scare me…at all. i just saw it as the intro to the real deal halloween. being a child with nearly no knowledge of horror cinema and feeling that way really says something to me about the quality of a movie.
to this day, by modern slasher standards, i think this movie stands up as one of the best and most underrated. great cast of characters – funny, sexy (i’ve always been in love with janet!), convincing, interesting, GOOD actors – loomis is nearly losing it, which, once again brings a certain realism to the movie. …love interest, a degree of social commentary with the whole media frenzy, good pacing, and perfect continuity (crucial to a sequel and not common).
halloween 2 is king. i’m just hoping it isn’t so underrated that we don’t get a blu-ray release anytime soon. i really want this one in high-def, and i would love it to have some of the alternate tv footage & kills as an extra.
hands down, best halloween.
Agree with tommy.
I wouldn’t put it above the original, but I do think it is almost, if not right on the same plane as the original.
Just gives off a creepier edge, that feeling of complete isolation in the hospital, the revamped score, the mask more creepier, the kills more gorier but not too too much.
I did enjoy this. Tied with first for best Halloween film, because…they technically are one film…cause they’re both in one night. Correct? I think so.
The best sequel!
After just one year, Rosenthal makes his rendition of Halloween while also trying to stay inclusive to the typical Halloween formula, or simply its predecessor. For starters Jamie Lee Curtis reprises her role as Laurie Strode and as well as Donald Pleasance as Dr. Samuel Loomis. It’s no surprise why there is positivity surrounding the follow-up as it’s a nice addition to the series and possibly one of the very few sequels that stayed close to the original.
What most essentially works with the sequel, is that it accomplishes two very significant tasks. One is for Rosenthal to put his own spin on the series, not making it a direct shot-for-shot sequel. Secondly, to still retain the same feel and atmosphere as Carpenter’s infamous late 70′s classic. An added bonus are the kills. The kills are more plentiful and bloodier than the original, but not going too over-the-top as in Zombie’s remake. The characters are also very satisfying and do the movie justice, especially Curtis.
The film is also as suspense inducing and terrifying as its predecessor, if not more. The scenes as just simple as Michael’s shadow or a pitch-black background is enough to give audiences a shiver. While, furthermore, we get some jump surprises here and there that we didn’t get before in the 70′s classic. The film also has a more brisker pacing and relies more on the story and characters, rather than dialogue or atmosphere.
Now we come here with the nitpicks. While this was a great addition to the series and certainly has more good points, then bad. There is a few things that irked me. First of all, I know that horror films can’t always be authentic and can’t always stay true to real events, but the ending was just ridiculous, to the point where there could be massive amounts of sequels. One final nitpick and I’ll leave the harmless film alone. Some parts ran a bit too long than they should have and some dialogue was unnecessary and just plain stupid.
Halloween II is certainly a great follow-up and while it’s not equivalent to the brilliance and adeptness of its predecessor, it’s not far from it. Rosenthal proved to audiences that he can still put a new spin on Carpenter’s classic, while still retaining the feel and sight of it.
Great follow-up to the original, picks up immediately afterward. This one and the original make for a awesome double-feature!
i thought it was better then the first but not by much
I loved this movie it was an awesome set up it really stayed with the 1st one it didn’t wonder off like some movies. It really kept me up it didn’t put me to sleep it really made me jump at some parts it really was good i was impressed with it
I wasn’t expecting much from this, because I loved the first alot, and I was thinking that this would ruin it, as most follow – ups do. But, I was really surprised. Halloweeen 2 picks straight up from the events of the first movie. What I liked is, that the new director for this movie, took over from Carpenter, to deliver his style of a Halloween movie. What I liked, is he carried that great atmosphere over with him. The dark shadows of Myers, the atmosphere of the whole thing, which most directors can’t do. But he did it, and did it perfectly. The acting is great, and a bit cheesey at the same time, but what do you expect? Halloween 2 is a new benchmark in horror. The slasher “with a twist”. Great plotted, great acted gory slash fest! A wonderful movie.
9/10
just finished watching this, had’nt seen it in a long time, still great just as the first was, whats the deal with the mask though, kinda looks like a ugly cat.nice kills to,loved it when he lifts that nurse with one hand.love um all up until H20. Boy did mr zombie f*** things up!
indeed a great follow-up to the original minus the lame mask but i give carpenter credit where its due. Halloween II was more dark and disturbing. Michael was more vicious in his kills and had more of a drive but nothing can compare to the original where he stalked Jamie Lee Cutis across the street, he looked like me ment business.
It was good but not as good as the first. It could have been alot better but it was still a good movie.
yeah halloween is great especially for a sequel and i think its actually the best movie next to the original movie in the halloween series by far i love the dark hospital settings it works perfect for this movie and once again jamie lee curtis is great as laurie strode
To be honest I thought the sequel was just as great as the original! It had loads more scares and lots more action and terror than the original.idk if it was my time frame or what but to me a very worthy sequel! like ppl say with Scream 2 and Aliens.
a lot better than the first one due to its violence, but most of the movie seems so boring.
it only gets good once Michael breaks through the glass door without a struggle. Dr. Loomis was right, he isn’t human at all!
This film has one of the best opening credit sequences I’ve ever seen. Still have no idea how the jack o’ skull was pulled off. If you’re a slasher fan, you’ll dig this flick. Technically, this movie is superb.
Could never understand why the critics never liked this entry. Sure, it’s not as good as the first, but I love how it carries directly on from the first and some of the kills are just awesome. Really dark, creepy and scary. A very underated horror film and one of my favourites from the series.
I am 32y/o and one of the biggest halloweeen fans you will ever meet. I have seen all the films even the garbage that Zombie put out. When I was younger I use to think this film was so awesome but I don’t so much anymore. As I get older and watch the original, I appreciate just how amazing that film was. It’s near flawless, and is affective because of it’s suspense. Where Halloween 2 fails is that it resorts to the hack and slash formula of most horror sequels. High body count and more blood. It’s a ok entry and definately feels the most like John Carpenters original. I personally think part 4 is the best sequel in the series however.
I love both Halloween and Halloween 2 {the originals}. They are just so well done. I still find it humorous that the best horror movies are the older ones.
I have been a massive horror fan my entire life, so not a lot of movies creep me out, but Halloween 2 does for some reason. That’s why it holds a special place for me.
I’ve seen both of Rob Zombie’s remakes, i like his first one, but Zombie’s Halloween 2 really wasn’t that good. He probably should have just left it alone after the first one.
But, in closing, if you have never seen this movie, WATCH IT
I Lv this squael 2 a Classic but did have some flaws as the fris bit was in a different house and tha Micheal Myers is not soo voilent or gorey but an outstanding Squael to a classic and one of my top 10 horror Icons of coures its Micheal myers
an cant understand why ppl did like this film great acting by cast and Jamie Lee curites and Donald Pleasence did justice comin bk into there roles after 3 years of the frist one Lv it!!
pretty good
I actually really liked this sequel more than the 4th and 5th Halloween combined!!
Not a bad sequel in the least, but just not as great. Wraps up the story nicely, although I kinda rather enjoyed the open ending to the first. This one does have flaws though, but it isn’t riddled with them (See Zombie’s Halloween 2). The last time Michael showed up in a decent film, so enjoy it.
This one is really good, Michael is awesome & brutal. H1, 2, 4 & H20 are the best in the franchise.
The best out of the “old” Halloween Series.
great movie
Michael is at it again. But suprisingly a hospital is a very creepy place for a halloween movie. Michael is still very very creepy.
A very underrated sequel. Not exactly up their with aliens and T2 but still a very good sequel to go with halloween
This film is a good seqeaul. It continues exactly where the first left off (if you don’t know what happened at the end off the first WATCH IT!!). People like this film for the originality and of course because of Myers himself. If you own both movies (Like me) then turn down the lights, get some food and drink, turn on your DVD/Blu-Ray player and relax. In other words watch both Halloween I and II, one after the other and relive the terror of ‘The Night HE Came Home!’
Not as good as the 1st.
But it is a really good sequel.
neat but slow in places.
A decent-enough sequel to the greatest horror flick ever, but the fact that Jamie Lee Curtis’ character is comatose for the majority of the flick really hurts. Plus it’s basically the same movie as first, just set in a hospital with all the gore and overt violence that the first one didn’t have. Still, it’s WAY better than most of the Halloween sequels that came afterwards.
Solid sequel that may not have the same suspense and originality as the original, but still is entertaining and also a bit creepy. The extra brutality sure is completely unnecessary when compared to Part 1 but… well, at least some of the kills are just awesome.
Great sequel
In the real world 3 years had passed whereas in the fictional town of Haddonfield, Illinois barely a few seconds have passed in this sequel to the masterpiece that was Halloween. They may have had 3 years to prepare this sequel but it still feels rushed, somehow. It follows Laurie Strode who is still being followed by Michael Myers; it also follows Dr. Loomis who is in pursuit of Michael.
When it comes to critiquing this sequel comparisons are bound to happen and that may be seen as unfair but if you have seen the original you would understand. The film begins with a replay of the denouement of the previous film is definitely a bad sign in a horror movie plus the addition of an annoying mix of the theme song on top of it. The film replicates the first person camera angle that the first film mastered but it feels more chaotic than the first and it’s definitely less scary. On another note the mix of the theme is annoying not creepy.
Written by John Carpenter and Debra Hill, the writers of the original. Carpenter refused to direct the sequel which goes to show the master knows best. This was intended to end the series but obviously as we have seen it didn’t. It would be considered the worst of the series if it wasn’t for The Curse of Michael Myers oh, and Resurrection.
The feels like the film is trying to be more like Friday the 13th, released just one year previous, which makes no sense because we all know Friday the 13th was a Halloween rip-off in the first place. More money was pumped into the budget, an extra $2 million, which could explain the reasoning behind why it was so awful, more money for the effects and that’s why the film utilizes the gore so much more. The original was incredibly effective with little to no money. All in all this film is lacking in every way possible.
If you’re really a huge fan of the Halloween series or even of slasher movies I am sure you will love it but others will have a hard time understanding why the film was made the way it was.
1.5/10
This is a prime example of what happens when producers get greedy
almost as good as no. 1 great kils and suspense, just a little of on the pacing though
Incredible film that barely falls short of the original.
enjoyed this movie alot. not better then the original but awesome fucking movie.
Awsome Sequel. Enough said.
Solid C- sequel.
I can’t believe this crap got so many four star reviews, it’s nothing more than a cash in for God’s sakes! There’s NOTHING here that made the original work. In John Carpenter’s classic, suspense was built gradually, with very few deaths and hardly any gore. In Halloween II we get pointless slashings of anyone and everyone. Random strangers are killed for no reason. And we find that Laurie and Michael are related WTF? This isn’t Empire Strikes Back {made a year before this shit} and this stupid plot doesn’t belong in the movie.
Classic.
Taken on it’s own, H2 is a above average, enjoyable slasher that makes good use of its hospital setting. But has a sequel to Halloween it lacks the menace, intensity and skillful directing of the original, although it does do a good job continuing the original’s storyline and adding to the series mythos.
his is great sequel to the first Halloween movie, it bit long then the first movie and the deaths are a lot more nasty then then the first movie but not gory which i really liked and again this has great atmosphere from start to end from the movie and i didn’t not find boring at all.
Great acting from the whole cast and i did find Michael Myers really creepy in this movie thanks the chilling Halloween theme tune
Less plot and setup than the first but still a great continuation of the story!Body count was way more too.A classic sequel.A must own for any Horror fan.
An awesome sequel and it’s more intense than the original!
Very good sequel, had some awesome death scenes like the hot tub one. The explosion at the end was epic and it was also epic when Michael was walking while on fire.
Okay, fine, we learn that Michael is Laurie’s sister, which wasn’t common knowledge back then. Other than that, nothing too noteworthy about this one. Would much rather have seen the movie go in a different direction like Halloween III went in, then maybe waited another sequel or two to come back to Michael Myers. More information here:

This movie is testament to the fact that horror films of the 70s and 80s are just the best no matter how you look at it. I don’t think this is a particularly good film but still I thoroughly enjoy it…in small doses. I can only manage to watch it during the Halloween season, but it still thrills me every time. Very fun ride. I think the secondary characters are rather bland and it’s hard to care for them…which is always (in my mind) a blunder in the horror genre. The kills were more brutal than in the first movie and Myers was a little stiff which is somewhat problematic because Nick Castle’s portrayal of “The shape” in the original was literally flawless. The biggest downer about this movie is the characters who are kinda difficult to care about, minus Laurie and Dr. Loomis. John Carpenter should have thought this one through a little more and directed it *himself*…but as many of us know, Mr. Carpenter isn’t much known to be exactly a “fans man”. The storyline was rushed through and the idea of making Laurie turn out to be Myer’s sister was silly at best. And it’s something the series never recovered from…even Rob Zombie bit off the idea for his “remake”.
Overall this movie is slightly…very slightly above average. And Laurie survives the night.
Great sequel, but of course not as good as the first one.
“Halloween II” is a derivative and therefore mostly uninteresting sequel to a great film; it constantly exists in the shadow of its predecessor, which alone is the reason for its failure as a solid and engaging stand-alone movie. Throw in even more problematic qualities, and you’ve got a pretty crummy movie; but at that, probably one of the better crummy movies out there. Yes, the sequel to John Carpenter’s “Halloween” – a nightmarish masterpiece of the horror genre – is lackluster and a complete cash-in, admittedly, yet there is hardly a bad moment in it. I don’t think it quite qualifies as a “bad” movie at all; yet there’s this urge to write it off even more than I already am. But I’ll be the better man and resist such impulses.
So, here’s the story of the “Halloween” movies thus far: Michael Myers, the villain of the long-running franchise, returned home one Halloween night to kill his sister Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis). His motives for the night attracted the attention of his former psychiatrist Dr. Samuel Loomis (Donald Pleasence); who believed Michael was a being made up of pure evil. He even went so far as to call him the devil.
But of course, when Michael began is nightly killing spree, we saw the evil behind the profilic flesh mask and witnessed first-hand what Loomis meant by those particularly unkind words. Many died, a few were lucky enough to survive through the ordeal, but in the end, Michael was shot and fell to the ground. BUT – and you’d best take a great big look as I have typed that very word – you might remember one important detail; the original “Halloween” ended with Loomis looking down at the lawn where Michael presumably fell to his death, only to discover that he had disappeared. Start playing that creepy theme music.
Now, open on “Halloween II”; Laurie (with Curtis reprising the role as the character) is wheeled away to a nearby hospital, where her wounds are treated. Loomis (Pleasence too returns for the sequel) is still bent on destroying the man that he had tried to treat for so many years; and must work while the only other witness to Michael’s brutal attacks from what I presume to be the year prior to the one in present day here is confined to a bed.
Of course, since Michael is not dead, he will return; and he doesn’t take his precious time to do so. The first thing you’ll notice about “Halloween II” is the fashion in which is drops the suspense of the first film and trades it for bloodier deaths, louder noises, an explosion in the film’s finale, and a handful of annoying and distracting clichÃ
Great sequel !
