A lot of people like to hate on ‘Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers’. I’m here to say you should reserve all of those creative put-downs for ‘Halloween 5′; ‘Resurrection’; and ‘Rob Zombie’. Yes, the sixth entry is fucking weird, and yes, there are some pretty ridiculous explanations put forth for your viewing confusion… but let’s try and focus on what little “that was pretty cool” to take away from this. First off, it’s more watchable than Part 5. Second, Mikey Myers is PISSED in this outing, and it shows by body count and the ways in which he dispatches stock characters. Third, the wonderfully brilliant Paul Rudd stars as a quarter-life version of Tommy Doyle. Director Joe Chapelle maintains a dark, brooding tone throughout and that alone should be commended. I loved the scene where the Strode mom tries to get away through the laundry and is met by Myers with an axe. FACE! I giggled watching Donald Pleasance run around crazy as ever, then felt bad for the old codger in the credits when I realized he croaked during this. This is a film that has some classic ‘Halloween’ moments, but as a whole is WAY troubled in its storytelling, horrible soundtrack, and annoying characters. Michael as a druid is very lame, but Michael taking out an entire hospital staff with a surgical machete is awesome.
I really enjoyed this one, the story wasn’t as strong but the scares were great!!! I think this movie deserves a lot more credit. Definitely recommended!!!
This one was good! I don’t see why everyone hates it. It was probably the scariest halloween. But not the best plot…
I also own the theatrical version on dvd as well and again I still enjoyed and besides Donald Plesence I thought Paul Rudd was the best new face to reintroduce to the series and sence Dr. Loomis passes away(R.I.P.) I thought Tommy could have been the new ahab of the series.
I really liked this one too, the expression on Tommy’s face when he see’s Myers again for the first time is just awesome.
It had cool scares but the story was just horrible common Michael Myers shouldn’t be controlled by anybody and especially because of that stupid thorn idea that came from part 5. They should have just dropped all of that. First time I saw it I never hated it I just had a strong dislike for it and don’t dislike as much as i did now. But still hated the story Donald Pleasence deserved to be in a better film then this disappointing film should have been better.
Better than H20 and the tyra banks one.
OK I am sssoooo sick of people bad mouthing this movie. Im a huge fan of Halloween movies. Can’t really say the Halloween series. 1,2 of course! 3 is good by itself(knowing John Carpenter and Debra Hill didnt want any sequals of Michael Myers rather differant films that take place during Halloween). 4 is ok 5 has some really bad characters(the goofy cops) but it introduces the Thorn element. Something from the first one but is only found in the book! READ THE BOOK!!! It really does change everything. The guy who wrote the review for BD is RETARTED!!!!! H20 was great and Resurrection just plain pissed me of with the killing of Laurie. And Busta kicking Michaels ass-give me a FREAKING BREAK YOU SPOTLIGHT HOG!!! Rob Zombies–lets just say thats a whole other story. OK on to the 6th. The mask was definitly NOT generic. part 4 was generic. I loved how Joe(the director) using kinda like blacklight effect on it. One of the best scenes ever in the Halloween franchise is when Michael is in the barn after Jamie and the lighting flashes. He’s there then he is not. The apitome of the Boogieman! As of now i havent seen the P-cut but i have ordered one and will watch soon. What i have heard is that Michael is reveiled as the father of Jamies baby. That i must is say is dumb but i can get over it(the cultest are doctors-could have artifically insemenated) dont know what their thinking is behind this. I always thought it was Wynn’s(the cult leader). The Strodes must have recently moved into Mike’s house NOTE THE SOLD SIGN which the kids put a Michael Myers thing on.(there is a picture of it here) The father knew about the house because of his brother. We find out of course he has kept the history of the house from the rest of the family. The eldest daughter and her son also must have moved in with them recently explaining more so their ignorance. I loved the fact that mom and dad’s names are John and Debra(Carpenter and Hill). Also love that they brought Tommy into the story. I felt as well that he could be the next “Dr. Loomis”. Someone who understands( if not more so)what Michael Myers is. The soundtrack was awesome. It was actually shot during the fall which is a plus. The death scenes are great. Some you see. Some suggestive. Some of my fav-When Debra gets killed- Beth getting stabbed in JUDITH’S ROOM. I mean c’mon! And the first kill was chilling with the classic Michael slightly tilting his head after the kill. Tommy’s landlord (the old lady) being in on it with the cultest was a great twist! “Hello dear!” SENT CHILLS DOWN MY SPINE. And Kara’s reaction is great. The only part i really was upset with was shortly after that when Tommy and Loomis “wake up from being drugged”. They should have just knocked Tommy out and brought him and Loomis with them to the hospital where Wynn could have tried to convince Loomis to join them. Loomis trying to convince them that they have no control over “THE EVIL”. Then Wynn being like we will see and leaving them to mull it over or something. Another small thing that bugs me is not knowing what the cultest really wanted to do. I mean i didnt see where they were controlling Michael. The big differance in this movie compared to the others is that it has a true plot. Maybe too much of one but none the less a plot. It wasnt character driven. And yes you lose a little of the idea that Micheal is just the boogieman. But really that idea is silly. I mean u see him as six year old child killing his sister for no reason then 15yrs later he is someone who doesnt get killed by being shot… this movie attempted at expaining that. But if u have read the book then you really already kinda knew the idea behind this. Like Rob Zombies’ movie. (Didn’t like his to well) Some people wanted an explanation some didnt. So i can see why people didnt like the film(s). I just dont feel this movie deserves all the flack it gets. And while terror may never rest in peace I hope Donald Pleasance is.
the worst of all halloween movies, a mess of a confusing movie that doesnt know what it wanted to be in the end result, i want to see a good version of the producers cut and see what was so different about it, sad that donald pleasance died during the filming of the worst halloween movie, was hoping he’d be around until part 22
Ah it wasnt too bad.
This is my favorite sequel to the original. I just think it’s awesome!! And it has the last appearance of Loomis for the original series.
i enjoyed this one.the story is not as strong but the scares more than make up for it.one of the more brutal entries in the series.highly recommended for true halloween fans.
Not a bad entry in the series. A lot better than 5 and Resurrection. This one would have to be the most brutal and violent as the kills were nasty, especially the head explosion , the axe decapitation and the hospital massacre. Bring on the pain indeed . Enjoyed seeing Paul Rudd in it and Donald Pleasance is always welcome as loony old Loomis. The atmosphere was great throughout and loved that it was filmed in the actual season of Halloween. The only thing I didn’t like was that Myers was made into a druid. Other than that a good decent film filled with dread, strong blood and violence and sadly for Halloween fans , the last role of Donald Pleasance as loony Loomis.
This film tried to explain why Michael Myers couldn’t die it didn’t do the best job of explaining but the deaths were brilliant and the and the story was much better than Halloween 5
Myers is so brutal in this one. A dark movie indeed.
i love the theatrical version and the producers cut
this one is more dark which i like a little change!

Cool Deaths, not so cool movie.
This was one of the best sequels in the series, I love how Michael was just a beast, this film did a good job of showing the audience how sadistic and vicious Michael is, no mercy! Although the “thorn” storyline wasn’t appealing to me, I think its still a more respectable entry in the Halloween series.
this one just kinda made up its own backstory it just didnt realy make its mark.
Best and Last of the Old School Halloweens! Bloody-Violent! Last Performance by everyones favorite Donald Pleasance!
Best and Last of the Old School Halloweens! Bloody-Violent! Last Performance by everyones favorite Donald Pleasance!
So mediocre. Don’t know where to begin. Plus it links Michael to the the Druids from the third film. How weird is that?
Paul Rudd’s in it, which is funny to see given his career now.
Best part is the little girl dancing under the dead body. “It’s raining red mommy!” Hearkened back to a time when movies were more about atmosphere than blood and guts.
Eh didn’t get most of this one.Definitely not one of my favorites although it has its moments.especially toward the end.Lots of suspense there.Michael looked great though!
just as bad as the rest of the post carpenter halloween movies
An absolute mess, I’m not sure if anyone involved had any idea what they were doing…all the ideas & mystery set up in the previous film are completely shat upon here. What we wind up with is Donald Pleasence last screen role being this mess, the man deserved better.
just ok
One Of The Better Sequels I Think Donald Pleasence Last Stand And Paul Rudd First Movie.
Love The Death Of The Father The Dick Got What He Deserved.Worth The Watch I Think But Hay I’m Usually Stoned
Not wonderful, not awful, but stuck somewhere inbetween.
This one was fucking horrible, almost as bad as H20!
Goddamn. After Season of the Witch this franchise took a complete nosedive. There are no redeeming qualities from 4 and up that I’m not even going to write an individual review for them, but just copy and paste this on all. Terrible, terrible, terrible.
I hate the fact that they’ve completely changed the whole halloween story! saying michael is cursed & he was ordered to kill why? at least H20 & Ressurection ignored this piece of shit & kept michael as the mass murdering psycho that we love, as far as i’m concerned this one isn’t part of the franchise.
Paul Rudd. He’s the only reason why you should watch this movie.
Superfan Daniel Farrands got to live every Halloween fans dream- he got to write his very own Halloween movie and have it stand as canon in the much loved cult franchise. Sadly, Dimension hacked his script, premise and most probably his enthusiasm for the legendary boogeyman Michael Myers. Still, this film is a very impressive sequel, because Farrands CARES about what goes into the script. When he reintroduces us to Tommy Doyle (brilliant performance by Paul Rudd) he’s doing it as a fellow fan who wants us to reconnect with an old friend. Putting aside the introduction of Druidic occultism and Celitc-pagan sects (both used as an explaination of Myers magical tendancy to resurrect himself- and it actually makes sense if you suspend disbelief), H6 is a love letter in spirit to Carpenters movie, yet its sadly butchered by men in suits who know nothing about Halloween. Stupidly, they wanted a Friday the 13th, not knowing that for many Halloween fans, the reason we loved Halloween is because it WASN’T a Friday movie. One thing that hasn’t been tampered with here is the ‘feel’. Halloween movies have a great, hard to describe spirit, and this movie nails it , really harkening back to the first movie (to be fair to Rob Zombie, the feel of his remake matches the feel of this sequel, though is far inferior to it). Personally, I think it’s the last decent Halloween film, rounding out the Jamie Lloyd trilogy and bringing Myers to an end, however confusing. Yes, the producers cut is FAR superior, coherant and satisfying, but this cut should be seen for Rudds performance, Farrands obvious love of the Halloween franchise, and Donald Pleasance in his last performance as Dr Sam Loomis. Also, if you love the 90′s pick it up for some awesome nostalgia. Really, this film couldn’t of come from any other time but 1995.
better than part 5.
It could have been a good movie (solid Michael Myers, solid kills, solid Dr. Loomis etc.), but the confusing crap plot and thousands of reshoots and script modifications really fucked it up
I liked this one
i liked it more because it was Donald’s last performance
my favorite out of the series, really dont get why its such a low rating. they finally explained the man in black and the mark of the thorn, plus good kills. donald pleasence seals the deal.
sometimes silly, but interesting take, and pretty brutal for the time
This movie could have easily been the best of the sequels, but it suffers from the re-shoots and butchering of Daniel Farrands’ vision. Director Joe Chappelle only made this movie to get a deal with Dimension, but he still shot a visually satisfying movie. If he had put his heart into this and followed Farrands this could have easily stood up to Carpenter’s original.
i like this one, has some great kills and it’s a good watch, one of the better sequels in the franchise
alittle harsh BD it was good. he scared the shit out of me in this one. the back story of how why he kills was retarted but its still better then 4 and 5
solid entery why all the hate i love how tomy was in it loved story and kills great addition cant wait to see part 8
I find the film all but unwatchable. While there seems to be a strong sentiment among other fans regarding Farrands’ “original vision,” I have to say that after reading his original script there was no saving this film. While slightly more cohesive than the finished product, it fails to sustain any logic whatsoever. While he was certainly hamstrung by the haphazard elements of the previous entry, ultimately both versions of Farrands’ story (script and produced film) play like what they are: really bad fan-fic.
It does anger me that this director had no interest in this film, but the film is great. I have not fully seen the Producer’s cut that the fans are talking about, yet. Michael Myers is incredibly terrifying, the kills and the music are amazing and it’s worth watching!
Exactly what I expected. Not terrible, no where near the first two. Halloween 2 was the last classic of the series, but as a fan I have enjoyed them all. (Save for 3) These sequels unfortunately begin to taint the essence of the first two, with only Donald Pleasance keeping them afloat…barely. It was a trip to see Paul Rudd in a non-comical role. He was actually pretty good.
What a spit in the face to the memory of Dr. Loomis. Poor guy. Gene splicing? This movie really did take place in the 90′s, didn’t it? The good ole days where all you had to do was spit in a blood sample, throw it in a microwave and out comes a weird hybrid mutant Michael Myers. Skip this movie. GO ON AND SKIP IT, SKIP IT. It’s easy to say that this is the worst of the series. I can’t think of one thing in this film that I actually liked. So much about this one is wrong.
“Halloween 6″ really, really, is not that bad as everyone says it is. Yes they do over complicate the story with all these other parties interferring with Michael’s legacy but that still doesn’t get in the way of it actually being a really entertaining and exciting film, with a brilliant opening which sort of reminded me of “High Tension”, and an exciting finale. “Halloween 6″ isn’t a neccessary sequel, but neither was “Halloween 5″ really. I think that they should’ve stopped at 4 and then done “H20″ but we can’t all live in a perfect world! Michael’s still great and some of the kills are fabulous. This is well worth seeing for any Halloween fan.
This is the last movie in the series containing the “true autumn Halloween” feel and vibe. The atmosphere was incredibly true to the original, and even more surreal. The characters were sympathetic and the attempt at story and plot were (or seemed) earnest. What makes this movie fail, as many have already mentioned, is that the plot is *too* complex, and the overall pace is much too convoluted which made it feel rushed. I happen to like the addition of the death-cult, which is an unfortunate reality of the Samhain festival (part of). I would like to see this same theme and storyline revisited and attempted again, while incorporating a much slower-paced plot build-up and character development. Still, I have to give this movie a higher scoring for an awesome attempt. I would watch this over the pitiful “resurrection” movie any night (or day). Was also Donald Pleasence’s final movie.
