I nabbed a bootleg copy of this on VHS back in 1997. Being a Halloween fan, it’s almost essential that you check this out. It’s fascinating to see how much of a difference there is between this ‘cut’ and what audiences saw in theaters and continue to see on DVD. It is with great regret that I can’t give this ‘cut’ much praise. This version delves deeper into the Thorn crap, and brings the Druid stuff way up front and flaunts it. There are more echoes of classic stylings here (e.g. Michael stalking characters throughout the day), but throwbacks can’t save this mess. At one point in the film (and I’m not kidding), Paul Rudd confronts Michael and stops the unstoppable killer with… stones. Um, they’re magical stones? Anyway, a lot of stupid shit is afoot in this version, and you don’t get the hospital massacre/the exploding head/crazy cellmate lady/death by farm machinery/lame Tommy Doyle pipe-beating. Instead, you get better Alan Howarth score/ritual sacrifice/ magical stones/Jamie Lloyd getting whacked in her hospital bed/Dr. Wynn in a Count Dracula outfit/super laughable/confusing ending. Both versions of ‘Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers’ blow fairly hard… but I’ll take the theatrical cut over this one.
This film has been one of the most sought after films to date, along with Hellraiser: Bloodline Alternate Cut and The Crwo: City of Angels Director’s Cut(all 3 Distributed by Dimension). I have seen 6, count em 6 versions of this film and believe me, it had a possibilty of being a pretty decent sequel, still not the best, but pretty good.
Whats funny about this film is that when The Crow was released on video they used the trailer for Halloween 6: The Origin of Michael Myers and for weeks I felt myself wondering what happened to this film and than Halloween; The Curse of Michael Myers came out was like “Huh”.
Now I enjoyed the theatrical cut, not alot, but enough to leave on if it came on TV or Premium Cable, but the alternate 5 Versions are better, if Donald Pleasance(RIP) had lived I think we would have seen the original ending and Man, what part 7 would have been like, with Dr. Loomis being evil. This is one of those sad depatures from this world(alongside Raul Julia’s last film Street Fighter)for Donald Pleasance was a great actor and did more than just 5 Halloween films(he is one of the best Bond villains EVER).
Ok, but I would have rather seen Donald Pleasence in a better Halloween for his final movie.
I own a bootleg copy of the producers cut on dvd I got it for my 20th birthday from My best friend I thought it was a kick ass sequel! It does exploit The Shape to much either you just know why he is evil and that’s all you really know it doesn’t pull a rob zombie it’s again like the first one tells ya what ya need to know not a 25mintute analysis on his character it’s just a shame because it really is the most under-ratted out of all sequels.
Good sequel. The others were better than this. The only time Halloween started to suck is when they reached Resurrection. That just sucked.
This one was a good way to make an end to the DR.
RIP Donald Pleasence
This movie isn’t as scary as the theatrical release, but it sure does explain a lot more than the confusing official version of the film. I own a bootleg copy and it’s a real good cliffhanger ending to the series, as it they should have stopped here if they were going to use this film. I think it could take any fan’s dream of the Halloween series in any direction with this cliffhanger.
this movie was boring as crap. i didnt think it made much sense. the story was stupid. besides #3, this is the worst halloween movie ever made. it puts shame on the original
This is very hard to find, pick it up, its a collector’s item! Crazy twist ending! It also explains the story better.
ok ok the producers cut explains the story better but i love the producers cut just as much as the theatrical
this one seems more like a halloween movie
ending was a twist and explained the man in black
i still dont get why people dont know who he is he is Dr. Wynn even on wikipedia when it says the list vof chacters it says dr wynn AKA man in black DUH PEOPLE!!
This, along with the original are the best Halloween movies by far. This rare Producers Cut is simply the best! Michael Myers is a great as he as ever been. The series is back on track here. Great gory death scenes, great acting, great music and some amazing script one liners. Pick this up, Halloween fans!
Few people like this sequel and many people hate it. i think it wasn’t a step down but a step in another direction. Michaels presence was way more brutal and terrifying.Don’t dislike me for my opinon but i really enjoyed this sequel more than many of the others.
I got this cut a long time ago and it’s cool to watch, because I’m a self proclaimed nerd, but I really do think the theatrical cut was a massive improvement. Magical druid stones? really?!? People always said it was scarier when we didn’t understand Michael’s motives- the presence of the man in black was an interesting twist, in fact I thought Halloween 5′s ending was pretty cool, but it didn’t need to be dumbed down to this state. At least in the final cut was a lot lighter on the witchcraft, and there was still some mystery as to what the hell was going on. Halloween 6 gets a lot of undeserved crap. I think it’s a pretty good movie, I was in the sixth grade when the theatrical cut came out and it was one of my favorites. I just recommend the final cut over the producers cut which is only hyped because it’s sort of an elitist’s collectible (albeit a cool one).
The plot in here makes much more sense and the ‘new’ ending is definitely quite interesting but overall it has pretty much the same quality as the theatrical version.
alright that BD review REALLY pissed me off, the whole thorn thing was already thought of in the novel for the first movie they just didnt use it. this is my favorite out of the series next to jhons great film.fuck the BD review he’s smoking crack watch this movie!1 fucking star is ridiculous.dont dis donald pleasence last movie! goddammit i just want to reach out of this computer and choke that guy!
I have to say one really big, great thing about this one….TO ME…..It was really the scariest one of the ten films! Now, it did make no sense prior to the other films, but it was a pretty intense fun slasher flick! Not my favorite Michael flick but hell, it was better than 3 atleast! and God Resurrection!!!So definitely not the worst! Lots of fun to be had here just dont take it seriously.
It’s part six.I liked it Paul Rudd was good.Pleasance gave a great farewell performance. And they explain Dr.Wynn Aka the Man in Black. Not the best Sequel but it’s lats time we see the real Dr. Loomis so it hold”s a special place in my heart. This cut was the better version for sure.
It was the last movie in the series that managed to capture that authentic autumn feel that makes the series so special. The atmosphere was scary, the storyline about the underground cult, while done ineffectively, was great since the ancient druids have a close relationship with the old Samhain festivals, not that all of them were bad. What was lacking in the movie was any sense of cohesion in the narrative. It felt rushed through. It had a ton of great elements but it should have been done more methodically. It was basically a gem that was never capitalized on, due only to story writing.
Michael Myers is controlled by a cult?! what a horrible idea.
