It goes without saying that during any given ‘Halloween’ marathon, I almost give up while watching ‘The Revenge of Michael Myers’. It’s the cinematic equivalent of eye cancer. Can you say rushed sequel? I don’t think part 4 even finished its theatrical run when this started rearing its ugly head at audiences. Much like the previous entry, we’re thrown right back into the Jamie Lloyd/Rachael Carruthers storyline– but this time it’s unscary, uninteresting and very annoying. Jamie is now a basket case who literally can’t speak because of the events that transpired in the end of Part 4. Funny how that never truly gets addressed here. Her fake older sister Rachael is no longer the strong-willed stalwart sister, but has been written into a late-80′s, crimped-hair wearing sleaze-bot. I hate when films don’t follow arcs established in sotrylines that came before them. As for Michael, we’re supposed to choke-down that after he fell in a well (funny) that cops soon dropped dynamite into (funnier), the ol’ Shape crawled out into a river and shacked-up with popeye for a year. What?! Oh, and get this: a year later he wakes up on…..HALLOWEEN! I want a film that documents the time spent between Popeye and an unconscious Myers. The rest of the film feels like an untalented retread of other Halloween movies with unusually horrible acting by all. Even Dr. Loomis gets on the nerves in this one. It’s hard to find anything likeable in this one. I guess I liked the end credits.
This was definitely not one of the strongest in the series, but it wasn’t the worst either. It’s a descent follow up, an essential if you want to follow the series. Recommended for Halloween fans!
I agree with QueenOfHalloween It’s not one of the best but it’s not the worst in the series. It is a little boring at some parts but most of it is really good…
Good movie if not for the new mask and the ending.
I didnt mind this one, except for that stupid music when those 2 “bumbling” cops walk out from the house. What the fuck was that all about?
Pretty disappointing sequel. Not a horrible movie but not a good one either with a lot of weak spots like Myer’s new mask, the new Myer’s house, the two stupid mumbling cops, the bad lines, the teenagers (usually in Halloween films we get good teenager characters) not in this one. And i was disappointed that they had to kill off Rachel. I would have prefer her to live. This is a bit boring throughout the film but it’s still an Okay sequel but should have been a lot better.
My least favorite of the series.
And the killing continues….
descent sequel but not the strongest in the series.i wanted to kill those two fucktard cops and dipsy Tina myself, but i for one enjoyed the mystery of the man in black.
The second weakest link in the series next to Resurrection. This is basically an extension of Part 4 but without the good characters, never ending sense of dread, suspense , decent direction and script. One of the best things of Part 4 was the relationship between Jamie and Rachael, we actually cared about them but in this one they kill Rachael off ! Big mistake. The saving grace of this entry is of course, Danielle Harris. She does an amazing job of playing a young girl completely broken down and traumatised forever by the events of Part 4. When Jamie isn’t on screen it’s just not good. Myers didn’t even feel scary or threatening at all in this. Skip this and watch the better 6th installment instead.
definately my favorite halloween movie. the beginning was BADASS!!! it was a genious movie and definately the creepiest halloween movie because of all the times michale appears behind someone. I liked how they killed rachel because that was unpredictable. I thought the whole movie was. And the laundary shoot scene was AWESOME!!!! i just love this movie!!
This film was good but It could of been better if the production team would have just waited and planned and filmed it in 2 years but I have to admit that the beginning of the movie probably wouldn’t be as good as it is now
Pretty cool, but not as good as Halloween 4. I shot him 6 times!(Dr. Loomis/RIP)
oh i love this one!
it brings back the little girl WHICH I LOVE!
and has good deaths
sure to keep you entertaining
AND OH MY GOSH THAT CAR CHASE WHEN HE IS CHASING JAMIE! AAAHHHH
Michael Myers gets in a coma. Wakes up a Year later on Halloween. That is the lamest shit. Who ever wrote this movie is a fucking idiot. This movie was an imoral piece of shit. Halloween 5 belongs in the dumpster. Worst in the series. It was so bad that I rather watch Michael take a dump on a womans breast. Dr. Loomis was the nut in this film. Jamie was a dumb little bitch. Worst fucking mask in the series. This is the most I ever wrote for a review. Why? Because I want everyone to know that this is Halloween with retards and I recomend that no one sees it. This movie is a good example of being straight to video. But it wasn’t. Instead It was released in theatres. I feel bad for whoever paid $3.00 or how ever much it was back then. Well I shouldn’t be talking, I own this worthless piece of shit film.
on par with the last film it was pretty decent weird ending though?
This is my favorite of the sequels. There’s just something about it. I don’t get why it gets the flak that it does; it’s a better made film than the fourth.
It’s really all about the last fifteen or so minutes though. Real intense, especially the laundry chute scene. The ending was brutal and felt, for lack of a cooler word, passionate.
Love it.
Besides the original and H20……the best! Four is close behind but not near the suspense this one delivered.Danielle Harris rocked and the girl who played Tina (I think her name was Wendy Kaplan) was great especially if your trying to replace Rachel(Ellie)!!!! Just everything worked! No I didn’t understand the guy in black but the movie deliverd enough that it just didn’t matter.I really don’t understand why people hate this one!
just as bad as the rest of the post carpenter halloweens
Once again, the mask in this movie was horrible, but Mike was still kickin ass and takin names. Its, in my opinion, the worst sequel in the series(besides part 3 of course). That whole black suit guy just fucks wit me a little bit,who the fuck is that!? But Newayz, Danielle great once again and even though he was kind of annoying Dr Loomis always comes thru with a good performance. R.I.P. Donald Pleasence
I liked this installment for the most part. I hear a lot of bitchin’ about the mask. I liked the mask myself. It’s much more sinister looking in this one, compared to his mask in part IV. The part IV mask looked stupid to me. On to the movie. The beginning starts to introduce the strange “Thorn” mark, which will be explained further in the next episode. The “black suit guy”, is the doctor who’s sorta’ the leader of this cult. He’s MEANT to be mysterious in this one, so we’ll be compelled to find out more in the next installment. It’s a lot darker & grittier than part IV. Pleasence is once again brilliant as usual. I was surprised that they killed off Rachel in this one. Harris did a great job. Overall, it’s pretty good. It beats the holy hell outta’ Resurrection anyway!!! It’s worth a viewin!!!
Decent enough sequel that suffers from presenting too many ideas that never pay off. This flick is infamous for piling on questions that you will never get an answer for, see Halloween 6….
Surprising enough, this isn’t as good as the fourth, or the first two. Halloween 5 is what you expect, Michael Myers is back in town, slashing people to pieces for no reason, except for revenge. A really boring, simple plot here, with a few acting issues. Although, again, that atmosphere from the first two movies are back, with great scary tones, and gory death scenes. Myers is back for good, and he gives off a great performance. Fans of the series will love this, but horror fans watching this for the first time won’t be pleased with it.
6/10
Ok, definately not the “Best” of the Halloween” Films, but it does have its Moments of pure Creepiness! It basically is a direct conclusion to Halloween pt 4 set a Year Later and poor Young Jamie is in some kind of Childrens Psychiatric ward trying to Deal with the events of the prior Film. We find out that Michael has been in a “Coma” the past Year and of course wakes up on Halloween to once again stalk his Niece and anyone who gets in his way! And of course theres Donald Pleasance returning once again to play Dr.Loomis proclaiming yet again “Michaels Comming” and of course, He’s right!! Theres a few Suprises along the way, but none greater the seeing the Death Of Rachel, Jamies “Sister” from her adopted Family! I still find myself trying to figure that one out, was this a last Minute decision, as to throw some shock Value at the Audience? Perhaps the Actress wanted a Bigger “Cut” of the Pie and the Producers said no, we’ll just Kill you off, or perhaps it was a way to introduce a new “exciting” Character in the form of Tina -”Michael, STOP the Goddamn Car”!- Rachels best Friend, who really Breaks Tradition in these types of Films for not only being the “Sexy” Girl but also being abit of a “Slut” and she basically headlines this Film next to Danielle Harris’s Jamie! Then of course we have the “Mystery” Man, who I found out just a few days ago in fact who the Hell it was from pt 6 “don’t get me started on that one, yet”! No, this Movie is by no means a “Classic” nor is it as crappy as you would think it would be, even as I was writting the above plot points it came across as well, “Crap” but its Frightening at the right Moments, kindof Gritty, and in some ways, actually Funny, whether Intentional or not! Of course the ending left it open for another Sequel with Michael being “Blown out of Prison” by Mystery Person and young Jamie crying “NOOOOOOOOOOO”!!!! Well my sentiment excately by the time I saw pt 6, but well leave that for another Day!! This Film has it’s Moment’s of entertainment and afterall, isn’t that what you want from a Movie?
Easily the worst movie in the series. MM cries, tries to run people down in a car and even goes on a date in this crapfest. WTF kind of slasher movie is this?
Its kind of funny to hear people hate on the Zombie movies and then say how great the Halloween sequals are.
Ehh Ok Watch If Your Drunk Or Really Stoned HeHe Awesome
I would pass on this sequel if you never saw the film. Utterly lame..the story is suppost to take place directly after fouth but Michaels mask totally different, shows emotions, and is flat out boring. Right at the bottom of the Halloween Franchise with Halloween Resurrection & Zombies
a fun horror flims
This was the best :/? this and the fourth r the best…and ofcourse the origanal…and remake
Ehhh..Halloween V was ok, but they really should have stopped with the series after this one.
Goddamn. After Season of the Witch this franchise took a complete nosedive. There are no redeeming qualities from 4 and up that I’m not even going to write an individual review for them, but just copy and paste this on all. Terrible, terrible, terrible.
I hate the fact that they are saying michael’s evil is a genetic malfunction NO. They ruined what made him michael & the guy in black is a load of bollucks. Some great kills though.
This movie sucks, when it’s on TV… But on DVD it is awesome it has really awesome kills!!
pretty good
ignore the end of part 4 and youll enjoy it.
Ok, the story is lame, the Myers house for some inexplicable reason looks like the Bates mansion and some of the actors are terribly annoying. Apart from that Part 5 is one more great sequel full of brilliant kills and great atmosphere. I have to highlight the scene in the barn which is probably one of the most thrilling scenes from the whole franchise.
It was sweet but not better than 4
just barely likable. not the best but not the worst. it’s not bad, but it’s not good. it’s like the plot was just shoved down the crapper. but micheal had a couple of good kills. not a classic but a good movie
A bland installment that was rushed into production before anything could be thought out. Doesn’t really feel like a Halloween movie much at all, but at least we get to see Michael in a different mask! More details here:
http://thewolfmancometh.com/2010/08/25/halloween-5-the-revenge-of-michael-myers-1989/
The mask in this one was even worse what the fuck. it was ok. but its not better then 4 and thats not even saying much.
This yet another great sequel to The Halloween series This movie as some great scary moment in it and it is really creepy when Michael Myers is chasing anyone and I think it was a great idea that Jamie could not speak and her connection with Michael Myers was such a great idea.
The the deaths scenes in this movie are not gory but this Halloween movies so focus more on the atmosphere from start to end of the movie and dose not want to gross you out.
One of favourite scene as got to be where Jamie is trapped in the Laduary room that was really well done and was really scary and Michael Myers was really scary in that scenes.
I think this movie is the most underrated of the whole series
A muddled mess but still an enjoyable sequel. They just tried to jump the shark a little with the whole psychic family link and the Thorn man in black setup. But Micheal was still brutal.Pleasance was still great too.A good fun departure from the original but it’s not Carpenter’s vision at all.
I am sick of the hate on this film! I LOVE THIS MOVIE. Just as awesome as Part 4, maybe better.
This wasn’t as good as H4 but its still worth a watch, I didn’t really like the whole man in black idea but other than that it had some pretty good death scenes (although I wish rachel hadn’t died), and the end with the explosion was pretty sick.
I love almost all the HALLOWEEN films, but this one goes a little downhill for me for two reasons; (1)If they made the Myers house more believable and not a mansion. (2) Not hint about the stupid thorn curse, then I would probably like it a lot more! One year after stabbing her foster mother, Jamie Lloyd has been taken to a children’s hospital. Since Jamie touched Michael’s hand, she exhibits signs of a telepathic link with her Uncle Michael. On HALLOWEEN, Michael returns to Haddonfield to finish what he started last year. Rachel, Tina, Mikey, Spitz, and Sammy become Michael’s new targets at a HALLOWEEN party as he tries to find Jamie. (That party was awesome with all the HALLOWEEN decorations and costumes!) I love the scene when Michael is chasing Jamie, Billy, and Tina through the cornfields with the car! Donald Pleasence is back playing the awesome Dr. Loomis who tries to hunt Michael throughout the HALLOWEEN night at all costs. Later, Loomis takes Jamie to the Myers house. I love scenes of the police and S.W.A.T. team stakeout at Michael’s house. That’s pretty cool. Loomis tries to reason with Michael one last time before the showdown. Loomis uses Jamie as bait to trap Michael. When Loomis finally stops Michael, he is taken to the police station, so that the U.S. National Guard will take Michael to a maximum-security prison until he dies, but something bad happens. What happens? You’ll just have to watch! If you love the HALLOWEEN series, maybe you’ll love HALLOWEEN 5: THE REVENGE OF MICHAEL MYERS!!!
If part 4 was two steps forward, then this one is two steps back. While not the worst of the series, it is still a letdown coming after part 4. The plot is weak and the finale is a mess. The people scream and the blood flows. It’s essentially been ground down to a bare bones slasher. Some minor thrills and flashes of what used to be, but overall just a feeling of ‘meh’.
For the first 20 minutes of this movie I had such high hopes and during that 20 minutes it had the potential to be a solid continuation of the previous installment. When they brutally killed the heroine (Ellie Cornell’s character Rachel) as though she was some new unknown character is when the film ended. The only positive quality about this film was *some* of its atmosphere, the solid acting attempt by Danielle Harris (considering the horrid material she was given to work with), and that the dreadfully annoying Tina wound up saving the young Jamie character, sacrificing herself. One of the last gasps at attempting to portray a kind and caring teenybopper in a horror film. But the “cheese-factor” of the movie is also what keeps it from being taken seriously, not to mention the aimless story line devoid of its essentially character from the prior movie deposed of much too early on. Loomis was neither here nor there in this one. A true disappointment but I’d watch it 1000 times over before the decrepid “Resurrection” movie.
Stupid plot & stupid characters.
p.s. I messed up on my halloween 4 rating, it should be 4 not 2.
This movie was allright but he never dies.
This movie was good, however it could have improved a bit in the storyline and a bit of the acting.
