Demons (Dèmoni)

Several people are invited to join the opening of a new movie theatre. As the horror film shown to the guests gets more and more violent, the people start to transform one by one into bloodthirsty demons. The remaining guests begin the desperate battle for their lives.

Gotta love this movie. Cheez at its best expression! From totally archetypical characters to endless splatter fun, this movie rocks! The pimp is particularly hilarious and it never ceases to amaze me every time I watch the movic… what the fuck is doing an enduro bike in the lobby of a cinema, let alone, with a demonic mask hanging out of it? Who cares, this is Demons, pure fun!

I remember my 16th birthday. My dad turned up with the latest Fangoria mag and as I opened it, Demons fell out ( the D.V.D…not real imp types). I was so excited as I am a big fan of argento’s since his involvment of Dawn Of The Dead. I watched it that night and I absolutly loved it. The demons were hidieous, the gore was brilliant and the plot was great.

The acting though WAS laughable, but all is forgiven because it’s a classic. From then on I brought the film round to sleep overs and parties and my mates thought it was fantastic too. There’s some great directing in it too, I loved the scene that’s on the cover. And the madness was tense too. Great monster movie. Every horror fan should have this in their collection. I wonder how long it will take to remake…I don’t think it should be touched!

Urbano Barberini how I love you in this movie; not since Terror at the Opera have you been so kickass. This movie rocks with music from Billy Idol Motley Crue and the Goblins, and well known Italian cast and Argento secretly Directing this movie you can’t go wrong. I first say this one in the first grad and it scared the hell out of me, well I’m 25 now and it still creeps me out. Everything about this movie is great from the Blind guy, the pimp and his ho’s, the cursed mask and the HOT red head who works at the theater to the wicked apocoliptic ending!!! Urbano Barberini does his best Ash impression in this one and it works, EX When he’s riding the dirt bike using the samuri sord to kill This is such a great Italian horror movie everyone NEEDS to watch this one I give DEMONI 10 Demon Hookers out of 10 Demon Hookers!!

Loved the effects for the time. great zombie movie everyone should watch.

  • JWUnderwood

had not seen this movie in quite a few years, but had the chance to do so recently. A simple story line with plenty of gore. An excellent film for its time and one that could benefit from being remade, if done correctly.

What and amazing film from the 80′s. This movie should be in every horror movie fans collection. You can not call yourself a fan of horror with out this, and of course Night Of Living Dead. If you call yourself a horror fan and don’t have these your nothing more then a poser. But enough about that.

lets move onto Demons, a kick ass horror film, that delivers, the blood, guts, and glory. You already no what it’s about so lets skip that.

This movie also packs in a kick ass soundtrack. Awesome dubbing, I didn’t even know it was dubbed. Is it me or do the Italians know how to dub in a movie. Because every flick I see that is Italian they do a great job. I rented What Have you done to slonge another great flick.

But demons has it all, laughs, scares, awesome music. hot babes, goth people, more babes, more blood, awesome looking demons. I wish they still made movies like this.

The 2nd one was pretty good too. But not as amazing as this one, The 2nd one has cooler mutation scenes, but really didn’t have that much gore like this one. I will be watching the 3rd one soon.

I absolutely loved this film! In regards to Ryan Daley’s comment about how everyone experiences Italian horror for the first time with one particular director, mine is without a doubt Dario Argento, and as much of a fan I am of Argento’s films, I have to admit that seeing Bava’s Demons for the very first time was like stepping out of a dark corner into the luminescence that is Italian horror. This film is definitely a praise worthy addition to Italian horror, and a delightful gem in the 80′s demonic possession sub-genre. I also have to mention that as typically bad as the acting was (coming out of Italy and all…) the vast aray of colorful characters is what really made me enjoy the movie the most. The African-American ho demon is without a doubt one of the gnarliest demons I’ve ever seen. The special effects reminded me of a Peter Jackson splatter film–Dead Alive to be specific–with all the green slime and oozing facial lesions. I’m giving this movie a 10/10 and recommending it to any horror fan who hasn’t yet had the opportunity to check it out.

  • ChrisV

Great movie! stay far away from its sequels (yes even the second one). Sweet 80′s gore that is not at all as brutal as some reviews would have you think, but uber violent regardless.
Shitty acting in this one, but if you did’t see that coming you have no business watching this in the first place.

  • gorehound62

great creepy house movie. blood drenched fun. it can get stupid at times, but overall its good. leave your brain at the door.

  • weasel corpse 666

One of my favs of all time. a classic.

  • Supernaut

This movie is outstanding. Motorcycles, hookers, chain saws and Motley Crue….what else do you need?

  • JohnnyHorror30

Fantastic movie! an all time classic with some of the most outrageous gore scene’s in a movie.

  • Darkstorn

Watching ‘Demons’ is like pissing yourself – once it’s over, you regret doing it in the first place. I came into this movie with high expectations, but was somewhat disappointed. I realize that this film is supposed to be a real ’80s bonanza, mullets and all, but I just didn’t think it deserves such a high rating. For one, the film itself is really not that gory, or at least not as much so as some would have you believe. The soundtrack is pretty sweet, and the sound effects are good, so the audio is the best part of the movie in my book. The special effects are passable, as is the dialogue, but the movie just isn’t that entertaining, and that’s the main problem. For one, the pacing is too slow at the beginning and you don’t feel for the characters by the end of the movie.
All in all, if you’re nostalgic about the decade and want to have some mindless fun, you should rent it, even though it hasn’t aged particularly well.

  • Eradication30214

I absolutely love this film. It is so much fun. The acting is pretty good, but the dubbing is terrible. Which, in this film, isn’t a bad thing. It adds to the whole experience, its very reminiscent of Zombie films, but they are in fact “Demons”. The whole thing takes place in a theater and has one of the best blaxploitation characters ever, in it. He is hilarious. Not to mention the Infamous “teeth” scene of one of the demons transforming in front of the theater. The kills are fun, and the whole thing…it just rocks. Bring out the chips, beer, and friends and pop this in the dvd player, you won’t be dissappointed.

  • Mayhem

High on gore & low on plot, but you know what? Sometimes that’s just what the doctor ordered & if that’s what you crave then look no further.

  • LuJr81

You know, I watched this film the other day for the first time(I’m only 21)and I loved it, like Mayhem said low on plot, but who cares when theres demons runnin around!lol. Highly recommended. P.S. GREAT ENDING!

  • maynardmorrissey

An amazing Italian classic full of great ideas and a lotta brillant kills

  • Mrmcd666

I must admit i just watched this classic the very first time yesterday. A great horror movie with tons of gore and cheese but thats what this movie wants to do. some great effects for an 1980′s italian film.

  • Eddie Weinbauer

Sickening gore, satire, monsters, Heavy Metal, and a pimp with some of the best catch phrases ever!

  • horrorfangirl

ok…so I liked this cheesy film..It brings back memories of when I watched it when I was little..

    • Hollywood-Tiffin

A Beta masterpiece! But, what does one expect from Mario’s protege!?!

  • Violator86

Do not watch this movie for it’s acting!
The special effects and gore are superb and well placed. This isn’t a great story-teller movie but it is one of the original gore pictures. A must see for any true horror fan… Plus there’s a motorcycle-riding-katana-wielding-hormone-filled-teenage-zombie-massacre! What more could you ask for?!
    A fun cheese-fest for a friday night.

  • Qantaqa

This is one of my all-time favorite movies. I’d like to see a subtitled edition sometime, but the English dubbing is hysterically funny in it’s own right (“Hi……mynameisGeorge!”). The soundtrack kicks 80′s metal ass and it features an actress that can only be described as a coked-up troll doll, plus the best pimp this side of Shaft. Watch it with friends…you won’t be disappointed.

  • ParanoidAndy

This funky 80′s horror movie is awesome. Loaded with cheesy goodness and some serious gore. I could easily watch this over and over. In fact, I have. Cheap, but great ambiance. One of my personal favorites.

  • STRIK9

This shit rules! Its funny that Argento would probably never be involved with a movie like this again. He’d rather do repetitive shit like”giallo”.

  • soul666taker

    Lots of FUN.

  • Grime

Great movie. I wish more movies were like this — instead nowadays we get handed shit like Hatchet and the Saw Franchise.

  • Captain Pissgums

I haven’t seen this thing since it came to VHS. It was the shit back in the day. I need to watch it again.
I remember it being really f/x heavy. The f/x were really sick. You have never seen zombies like these, or demons I guess. Fucking bucket loads of blood and nastiness. Good.

  • Morthalius

My favorite demon movie, pure entertainment.

  • zuggernaught

What a ride! 80′s demon horror at it’s finest!

  • Midnitekrawlr

One hell of a night at the movies! A MUST SEE!!!

  • JohnMarrone

One of the best horror films of all time.

  • !!rogue!!

I don’t feel Demons lives up to it’s reputation. It has some great 80′s music, some really cool shots (such as the one in the poster), and of course great gore and gross-out effects, but I found myself being annoyed rather than entertained.

  • murdermakesmecum

this is a totally cool movie to see. love the effx, they weren’t great or anything but they were pretty cool. liked the idea of this movie, but the acting and use of the camera was just terrible. and the music was pretty bad also. in the end, this needs to be seen by every horror fan out there.

  • TheGonzoJoint

It’s kind of sad how utterly mediocre Italian horror films are as a whole; not just these days, but for any time in existence. “Demons” must have been made with little in mind other than “this will become a so-bad-it’s-good classic one day”. As for that, some say that it doesn’t get any better than this. Some will just want to get drunk and have fun with “Demons”. And then some, like me, will see that there isn’t really much wit or real fun to be had here, and there’s many sources to the depriving of the film’s fun-factor.

The movie starts out good enough; with a mysterious man handing out movie tickets to random people, one of which is a woman named Cheryl. When Cheryl and a friend get into the theater, it is packed, and they meet some un-planned men as their “dates”. The film, which has never been screened, turns out to be a horror film about demons. It’s an exceptionally gory film that disturbs a good number of the audience members; one of which feels ill and goes to the bathroom. She returns a bloodthirsty demon.

So as it would seem, the film itself is turning these people into the same kind of demons shown in the film. I love me a good ol’ “evil movie that turns people into monstrous beings” flick, but this does not quench my thirst as I would have hoped.

The problem with these demons is that they are more like zombies than monsters from hell. They moan, spew green pus, and kill people in admirable gruesome ways. This is a true, blue, mean-as-hell exploitation flick that keeps the blood flowing throughout, while the wit and substance kind of flow away quicker than we would have wanted them to.

I expect there are defenders of this movie. It’s not a bad one, and I somewhat appreciate it, but I can’t say I enjoyed it. You may say I’m a hard-ass who can’t just have fun for once, but you’d soon be proved wrong (see my review of “The Evil Dead” and its sequel). I’m hard to please, and maybe that’s why I didn’t like “Demons”; which does not have a great director, great actors, or greet screen-writers.

However, it does work stylistically. Visually, there are some really good ideas and moments to see here. The film looks, well, presentable; and so does the gore, which is always in large surplus. The film sounds decent enough until you let your ears feast upon the overwhelmingly mediocre dubbing. The only thing worth HEARING is the score by Claudio Simonetti, which is freaking awesome, I must admit. But it’s “cool”, and that’s all this movie wants to be; cool. I have problems with that; but don’t have much of a problem with “Demons” existing.

I am not telling you to avoid “Demons”. I think it’s a messy miss of a movie that exists for little more than an excuse to show blood, guts, gore, and more blood. Plenty of films have excuses to show such things, and this film doesn’t really have one, and if it ever did, it wouldn’t be satisfactory. When the film runs its course, we don’t feel happy or satisfied in the end. Instead, we think to ourselves, “Here’s another mediocre horror film down the drain”. I’ve seen more than enough of this.

  • jennifuru

    A must see!
Loved the implied apocalyptic ending, loved the soundtrack, loved screams and the lets face it, getting stuck in a movie theater with blood thirsty demons would be friggin terrifying!

  • angelus_04

Ah yes a very awesome movie with a rocking soundtrack and the ending is very unexpected. There are a few things that bug me though. 1. the blind guy (how did he get out when the door wouldn’t open before not to mention the door had become a wall)

    2. the hero’s gf (how did she get turned I don’t recall a time she got bit or scratched)

Other than that awesome Italian horror zombie/demon flick

  • Stanley Strange

An incredible film, I cant help but think its underrated not enough is said about how great it really is the music mixed with the vivid colours adds this really surreal gore-tastic ride.
Even though it was made in 1985 the effects especially the metamorpasis scenes still hold up and can provoke a strong reaction.

To all the Demon fans in the UK a special edition of Demons will be released in december from arrow video if you look for it on Amazon you can pre-order your copy I know I will be.

  • Bubbleman

Had such a blast watching this movie.

  • WerewolfOfTheWasteland

Bad ass gorefest, with laughable acting. All in all an entertaining but not spectacular film.

Good Gore,Terrible story I have no idea how this got five skulls! But Its always nice to see some latex these days.
