R.I.P. David R. Ellis (1952-2013)

An extremely sad bit of news today as reports are emerging that director David R. Ellis has passed away at the age of 60. Ellis got his start in Hollywood as a stunt coordinator (and stunt man), working on such films as 1978′s Invasion Of The Body Snatchers, Scarface, Lethal Weapon and Misery. He worked as a 2nd Unit Director on Waterworld, Deep Blue Sea and the first Harry Potter movie among other films. READ MORE

This afternoon Relativity has posted the first trailer for Shark Night 3D, the David R. Ellis (Snakes on a Plane, Final Destination 2, The Final Destination) directed thriller swimming into theaters September 2. The footage features a little homage to Jaws, although I don’t like how serious it takes itself. We’ll see how that plays out this summer… READ MORE

‘Final Destination’ Director Adaptating Dark Horse’s ‘War Monkeys’

Don’t know how we missed this, but hiding within an article over at Variety 4 days ago it was revealed that David R. Ellis is in negotiations to replace Kyle Newman in the $20 million comicbook adaptation of War Monkeys. Printed by Dark Horse Comics, the story follows a janitor who, during a Christmas holiday, gets trapped in an underground research facility with military-trained Rhesus monkeys. Ellis is developing Shark Night 3D after getting behind the camera for The Final Destination, Final Destination 2, Snakes on a Plane and Cellular.

Yet More ‘Mother’s Day’ Casting…

How many people are in this movie anyway? Even without reading a synopsis, the sheer number of actors being hired (with more to come!) should tell you that Darren Bousman’s “remake” of Mother’s Day is a completely different beast, as that film only had like six people in it. Well now you can add another name to the list: Bousman just announced via his Twitter page that AJ Cook (pictured inside) has joined the cast as well. You might remember her as the heroine from Final Destination 2. She joins previously announced Rebecca DeMornay, Lyriq Bent, Briana Evigan, Alexa Vega, Jaime King, Matt O’Leary, Shawn Ashmore… and I think a dozen others. But hey, more characters = more kills, right? Sweet. (more…) READ MORE

David R. Ellis Heads to Space With ‘Humpty Dumpty’ in 3-D

After completing the reshoots on Final Destination: Death Trip 3D, David R. Ellis will be getting behind the camera for another 3-dimensional pic, this time for a sci-fi horror pic by the name of Humpty Dumpty (please change the title). The 3-D sci-fi horror pic is about a half-human, half-alien creature who embarks on a murderous rampage after his alien mother is abused by two rednecks in the Deep South. Billy Majestic is writing the script. Check out some art inside. Ellis also directed Snakes on a Plane, Final Destination 2 and Cellular for New Line CInema. They must love this guy!
