well It’s been a few years since I had seen it but I remembered how much I had hated every thing about this film there was nothing interesting or entertaining and not even the great and late Heath Ledger could save this boring and uninteresting story.

Once again it’s my favorite horror sub-genre, and this one in particular had some strong elements such as atmosphere, *some* of the subject matter, and a real supernatural tone to the entire project. And Heath Ledger played a strong lead protagonist. The movie’s downside which unfortunately outweighs the upside are manyfold. For one, the very notion of a “sin-eater” is weak and the flimsiest religious point to base a story on…not to mention unrealistic. Two, the narrative was pointless, three…the spiritual warfare element was a joke.
The strengths are the atmosphere and powerful lead man, the forboding feeling (at times) of dread, and the fact that it tackles of controversial subject matter of there being an apostate underground cult secretly planning to overtake the world (the “rise of the black pope”). Overall it’s a half good story that was ruined by the half-bad part. Should be re-done with a serious writer.
