Overated.
Overrated indeed. If you’re looking for variety, look elsewhere since this film takes place almost exclusively inside a car, but all-in-all it’s a very well-made and truly scary horror film that, while overrated, does have some things worthy of praise.
creepy
Worth your time, but not worth your money
Worth your time, but not worth your money..
A great film with good story . This film is not overrated , if u would hav seen this movie 3 or 4 years ago u would b saying this is one of the best horror movies ive seen in awhile but since u havnt there has been a lot of knock offs. This def worth checkn out.
I really liked this film, great black humour which can then twist into a intriguing horror movie. It runs at a nice pace which keeps you glued till the end. Its one of those films you love or hate.
Loved it. Interesting premise, good cast, wickedly funny dark humor, and a nice ’80′s horror vibe. Enjoy the ride.
I watched the US version. It kept me guessing but the acting was a bit overdone. I couldn’t stand the son.
I liked this one, def worth a look. Ray Wise is always welcome and this had enough creepy moments to keep me interested.
There isn’t much you can say to horror fans who don’t understand the difference between true horror and cheese horror. So many of them are attached to nostalgia from cheesy 80s horror, they think that’s all the genre is as the rest of the world laughs. I am a horror fan. I love a lot of horror movies. I love horror when it is genuinely scary and disturbing–not laughable. But I’m not a fan of cheese horror, and that’s exactly what Dead End is. What more can I say?
The entire script is a giant cliché. There is nothing, not even a single scene, that hasn’t been done so many times you have pretty much memorized every event within them. Even if you take Dead End as nothing but a black comedy–and that is not what the director intended–the predictability of every single moment just makes the film completely and utterly pointless. It plays the same “mind games” as every other film just like it: “Oh no! We’re in the same place we started . . . but the map says we’re going the other direction!” Or, “Oh, look! A lady on the side of the road, let’s help her!” Come on, people. If these stupid clichés still entertain you, or still immerse you, maybe you’re best off watching daytime children’s shows. I’ve seen shows on Nick Jr. with less predictable plots. Even Dora the Explorer has more diversity and originality than Dead End. One word to people who gave Dead End any score higher than a 2: just grow up.
The dialogue is unintentional hilarious. Characters spout out things–like “This reeks of alien activity, guys!”–that makes “Swiper, no swiping!” look downright intelligent. The acting is so over-the-top, it’s sometimes even worse than the dialogue.
Speaking of intelligence, the writers seem to think this movie is “psychological horror” simply because it shows characters having mental breakdowns, thus it’s intelligent. That’s a lot like saying a movie is intelligent because it shows an apple fall, thus it’s demonstrating the scientific theory of gravity. That’s even my problem with movies that with movies that demonstrate psychological horror accurately (which is not Dead End): we’ve seen it all a thousand times. We get it. You kill a family member, people go crazy. How many times does a movie have to repeat it? I just wish a horror movie would be intelligent enough to branch on to other psychological fields, show original things about the mind, not repeat kindergarten-level facts.
Another problem is the movie thinks of itself as shocking, when it’s not. There was less blood/gore in this movie than a lot of PG-13 movies I’ve seen, and the whole masturbation sequence, meant for shock, just added a layer of cheese atop the cheesecake. Once again, whatever happened to horror movies that were genuinely disturbing?
On the technical level, the directing was made-for-TV at best. The costumes and some of the blood effects were downright hilarious.
Did I mention that driving in a car for the majority of the runtime doesn’t exactly keep the viewer on the edge of their seat? Bluntly: Dead End had the entertainment value of watching the wall. Honestly, watching the wall and using your imagination would be less predictable than watching Dead End. And the ending, like most movies of this kind, ripped-off The Twilight Zone.
Overall: I cannot think of a lesser way to waste your life than watching Dead End.
A PG-13 movie with a little blood and gore. If you like movies to yell at and laugh at then this is the one. This was just a thriller with decent acting. You’ve seen this twist before. Worth watching for a good time only.
GREAT film. it has that creepy isolated “you’re screwed” feeling throughout, the acting was superb, the comedy subtle (as in not over the top and over-done) and dark, and the direction is faultless. i loved it.
c.r.a.p.
Awesome movie, that not too many people know about.
It’s creepy and that says a lot considering it couldn’t have had a big budget, which almost every movie does now.
This movie is great for getting friends and loved ones into your horror movie mindset.

I felt the best quality of the film was the comedy involved in it, very well casted, but the third act has some handicaps in it that really reduce the film from being a memorable comedy horror film to a unsure mystery horror movie with funny moments and dialogue.
really funny movie and still scary and creepy in parts. loved the dad in this movie but the brian drawing made me laugh the hardest ive laughed in a long time even from a comedy. i think it could of used more gore but still a great movie.
I though this was a good horror movie. A staight forward plot and i love the whole on road setting. The mother will drive you insane. Some funny moments. By the end of the movie each will have there own interpretation of what happened.
I have to say that this film was very entertaining. Ray Wise and Lin Shaye steal the show.
this movie was ok at best…no real good kills, but a good story to cover it up….the movie did not make sense at all…..a good twist at the end, but that cannot cover up the horrible way the movie turned out…
One of the best horrors of the 00′s. 8/10!
Ray Wise was awesome! This move has so many quotables lol!
lin shaye’s character:
“oh i knew about it. i know how you two used to check into a motel during ur lunch break and hump each other raw”
LMAO!!!
This movie pulled off something that few others are able to do. It nailed an atmosphere. For what it lacked in graphic kills, it made up for in a genuinely creepy feeling. It also has some excellent dark humor.
i really liked it
best and good
I actually enjoyed this film a lot worth the 6 dollars I paid to rent it.
They should have named this film, “The Loooooooooong Ass Road To Marcott”. “Dead End” plays like a shitty episode of the “Twilight Zone” t.v. series, except stretched out to a feature length movie.
This isn’t horror. It’s not creepy either, just interminably long. On top of that you get the “Awwwww Shucks” type ending.
Bad, bad, bad, movie. I rented this thing based on YOUR reviews. Tell the truth. If a movie sucks, say so. Give it half a skull or something so you don’t waste someone’s time.
True horror fans: Avoid “Dead End”. It sucks.
I really enjoyed this film, definitely worth seeing.
Creepy, Funny and shocking in places with a great twist. Dead End is one of those rare gems that come along and completely surprises you. Its like a really good episode of the classic Twilight Zone. Well worth a view.
A predictable plot done in an inventive, darkly comical way.
Biggest grossout of the film is when mom chows an entire pie and then talks to the family with it all over her face and oozing out her mouth—and then eats a bag of chips and pukes. In other words, low on horror, gore, and thrills here. But, there is a redeemable factor, and that is the acting and dialogue between family on their road trip to hell—kinda funny stuff sometimes. Well used but cool twist, but thinkin’ a bit more on-screen kills and bodies would have helped out on the horror theme a bit. Was an ok watch and fairly enjoyable (mostly for humor), but in a class B flick similar to this, I enjoyed Reeker more on the horror side of things.
Enjoyed this film alot.
I definitely enjoyed this film! Overall, it was well done, very funny, but also had some creepy parts. If there was one thing I could have changed about it it would be the musical score. At times the music was distracting to a fault. Especially at some creepy moments. But other than that it was a great film.
interesting…..
FUNNIEST movie of all time
