What else is there to give this but a perfect 10? Sure the effects are a bit outdated, but who cares? The movie itself is possibly the greatest action movie of all time, and the horror elements can’t be matched by 90% of what comes out today.

I just got done writing about how Black Sheep wasn’t very gory, and I was very refreshed to view Predator because it has just about as much gore as Black Sheep but it does something movies have forgotten–the gore isn’t something so generic you’ve seen a thousand times. Some of it, like the head on the stick, are so much more over-the-top than what films attempt today it’s just amazing. At one point blood flies so thick it literally covers the screen for a few seconds! To the makers of 30 Days of Night, The Decent, and The Mist: why couldn’t you guys at least show as much carnage as a monster movie that came out decades before your sucky films? Shouldn’t we be pushing the limits of gore, not making more retarded cut-off scenes?

Also, I’d like to mention the well thought out-ness of the movie. Contrary to sucky copy/paste monsters in the movies I just mentioned, the Predators actually took some thought to design. They really, REALLY make most action-monster movies today look retarded. At one point when a character asked what was trying to kill them, I replied out loud: “Vines that eat people!” referring to the suck-cheese-fest The Ruins. Really, at one time we had Predators (some of the coolest creatures imaginable), now we have talking vines that eat people (some of the most down-syndrome creatures imaginable). Predator stands the test of time to show me that our generation doesn’t have a single original idea in their cheese-filled heads that shout: “No, this is too much gore . . . the audience can’t handle this . . . we have to make another cut-off scene.”

From beginning to end Predator is utterly flawless. I can only imagine what it would have been like to view when it first came out, before all the surprises were given away and become part of pulp culture. But even for someone who has seen both AvP movies, thus knowing every surprise that this superior film has, Predator is still one of the most flawless movies . . . ever.

“Predator” is pure machismo at the max. Not only is it one of Schwarzenegger’s best films, it is also amongst the best action films ever made.

Essentially, “Predator” was created with the idea of combining “Alien” with “Rambo”, and to make it a Schwarzenegger vehicle. However, over the decades, this film has become much more and gained an ever loyal fan base.

The action is intense, the catch phrases are aplenty, and the creature is not only memorable, it is iconic. The alien in the film is one of Stan Winston’s greatest creations, and it shines in “Predator”, as well as in the less impressive (yet still trashy fun) sequel “Predator 2″.

As a young boy, I idolized half of the cast in this film. Who doesn’t want to grow up to be a hardcore bad ass like Billy, Blain, or of course, Dutch?

Over the years, I’ve always wanted to see another franchise start featuring a monster at least have as creative and imaginative as the aliens found in “Predator”, “Alien”, or “The Thing”. However, nothing even similar has spawned. Today it seems that even with he special effects, modern artists lack the creative imagination of people like Stan Winston or Rob Bottin had in their prime. Or, could it possibly be that filmmakers try too hard nowadays? Either way, the magic of “Predator” is still something that exists today for modern audiences to enjoy.

the best of the two predators and better than the avp films that made predator and alien look silly as hell.
this film is a great horror film, very unique story and a cool strange new villian kept this film very intersting and intense.

This movie was one of my favourite sci-fi horror movies next to aliens. The predator itself it the best looking alien I have seen, EVER! The predator also packs some nifty little gadgets that kick ass. The characters were well developed and the catch phrases that some of them use are just awesome. The gore is very nice and the suspense is ramped up to max level. Arnold did amazing acting and this is one of his best movies by far. The storyline is neat and original and just plain fun. The atmosphere and setting is perfectally set. You get so attached to the characters that when one of them dies its heart wrenching and not a pleasent sight. The final showdown between the predator and arnold is sweet. The special effects are awesome and when you see through the eyes of predator it really shows just how advanced and kick ass it’s technology really is. My favourite lines from the movie are:

    “Get back to the chopper!”

    And

“If it bleeds we can kill it”

Overall this movie is wicked fun and extremely entertaining and I proudly give it 10/10. But as for the sequel and A.V.P they are both failures on an epic scale.

Yeah! Classic cheesy 80′s action sci-fi! I doubt I will ever tire of watching two of our future US governors duking it out with one of the coolest looking aliens to grace the screen. :P

Similar to Aliens in the sense that it’s one of the most bad ass action/sci fi/horror movies ever made. Hell, Aliens and Predator ARE the most bad ass action/sci fi/horror movies ever made. And to top it off, you have Arnie in his hay day. 2 future governors in one movie; who ever would’ve thought?

It’s really too bad that there has yet to be another movie that features the Predator that is even HALF as awesome as this.

This has got to be one of my favourite films of all time. Predator, starring the rather great Arnold Schwarzenegger, is set in the jungle, in the heat of a rival war. The action is there early on in the movie, with non stop action scenes, gun fights and explosions, and then, the film really starts to kick in. The Predator is finally announced, the invisible creature, taking out it’s prey one by one, in gory, bloody deaths. The special effects are just stunning, the wonderful gory deaths, the amazing Predator it’s self and the great looking jungle. I have to admit, it feels so modern for it’s age, and the great acting makes it even better. Arnold really gives off a great performance here, probably one of his best roles in movies except for Terminator. But really, this film rocks. I highly reccomend to any sci – fi, horror fan to watch this now!

    10/10

My favorite modern movie monster hands down, and one of my all time favorite movies, everything about this movie is awesome, the setting the music, the pace, and to me this is still the best looking Predator of all the films. I really wish predator 2 turned out better. Arnold at his most badass vs an 8 foot alien hunter, you just can’t go wrong!

Simply one of the best Sci-Fi action films of the 80′s (of all time?), and most definitely one of Arnold’s best! Fantastic special effects and great locations/sets, mixed with well portrayed characters and a riveting soundtrack. I can’t see how anyone could not love this classic!

WARNING: Close proximity to this movie may cause young boys’ balls to spontaneously drop and fertile women to become impregnated.

I have seen this movie countless times, and it remains one of the manliest, most badass films ever created. I have yet to find them, but I swear it must have its own pair of testicles somewhere. This is not to suggest that women will not enjoy this masterpiece. Admittedly, I bare little resemblance to the overly-testosteroned men in this film, and would probably be considered a “slack-jawed faggot” by Jesse Ventura’s character. Nevertheless, watching it always gives me the delusion that I can shit tree bark and remove spinal cords, at least until the next time I get winded running up the stairs.

Seriously though, this film about special task force soldiers being hunted in the Central American jungles by an alien “Predator” is one of the great sci-fi action/horror movies of all time. It has also given us one of the most impressive and interesting monsters in film history, one which unfortunately has yet to receive the stellar treatment it deserves since this debut. As deadly and frightening as the Predator is, the viewer cannot help but be awed and impressed by it and its tactics and technology. Sam Winston’s creature design is perfect, and the performance of Kevin Peter Hall as the Predator is a terrific but often unsung element of the masterful storytelling. Additionally, the makeup effects of the creature’s face when it is finally revealed, too, is unforgettable.

The film’s strength does not only lie in the Predator, however. This is an ensemble movie that is expertly directed by John McTiernan (who next made Die Hard) with a terrific cast (which includes two future governors), well-written characters, and a great supply of memorable one-liners (“I ain’t got time to bleed”). No character, scene, or dialogue is wasted in this script, and the final product is a tight, action packed epic. Case in point: within Predator’s first ten minutes the personalities and relationships of the characters are effortlessly established during a simple helicopter sequence. Even the peripheral characters are given depth or a distinguishing trait.

Most significantly, despite the amount of biceps in this film, this tale is ultimately about a battle of wits. Physical strength and heavy artillery repeatedly prove useless to the soldiers, and in the end it becomes the human mind against the alien mind as the two foes read each other and try to stay one step ahead. Truly, mankind has not evolved and persevered because of our muscles, which are considerably weak in the animal kingdom, but it is because of our uncanny ability to think and adapt to various situations. This movie demonstrates just that and explores where humanity’s true strength lies. In this respect the steroid-built Arnold Schwarzenegger is a great choice to play a character that continually gets his ass handed back to him and must learn new ways of overcoming his enemy. In attempting this he uses what nature provides rather than what advanced civilization has built. It is man fighting in his primal element, poetically using the resources of his own planet against the intruder’s technology. (That last part may be me reading too much into this film, but screw you because I’m sticking to it.)

Obviously, I cannot lay enough praise on this film, and as a rarity I have nothing to criticize. If you haven’t seen this film yet, SEE IT! It should be a right of passage for every boy in our society who passes into manhood. But be forewarned: it might “make you a goddamn sexual tyrannosaurus.”

    A+

There isn’t a single flaw with this film. Arnold is a badass and is in top shape here in his second best role to date (second only to Terminator), and the Predator is just the epitome of awesome alien. I love this film, I can watch it a million times and still love it just as much as I did when I first saw it at eight years old. Amazing film.
