Full Cast for Lars Von Trier’s End of the World Thriller ‘Melancholia’

Lars Von Trier, the Danish director behind Antichrist, will be taking on the apocalypse with Melancholia, an “end of the world” thriller with a so-called apocalypse being caused by Earth colliding with another planet. Deadline revealed today the entire cast starting with the lead, Kirsten Dunst. Charlotte Gainsbourg (Antichrist), Kiefer Sutherland (Lost Boys, Mirrors), Charlotte Rampling (Angel Heart), Alexander Skarsgaard (“True Blood”), Stellan Skarsgard (Exorcist: The Beginning ) and Udo Kier (Suspiria) are also attached. The film will begin shooting in Sweden this July, with a budget of around $8 million. Antichrist was quite a controversial film, it’ll be interesting to see his spin on a disaster film. DVD Review: Romero’s ‘Diary of the Dead’

It’s Good to Live in the UK: Your Head’s Gonna Spin

Warner Home Video UK has announced The Exorcist: The Complete DVD Resurrection for release on October 17th, according to Davis DVD. The boxed set will include the currently available editions of The Exorcist (the original version), Exorcist II: The Heretic, The Exorcist III and Exorcist: The Beginning. Presented for the first time ever following a successful premiere at the Edinburgh International Film Festival, this set also will include director Paul Schrader’s much talked about Dominion: A Prequel to The Exorcist. This original atmospheric prequel was rejected by producing studio Morgan Creek and later reshot by director Renny Harlin as “Exorcist: The Beginning.” Retail will be £32.99. Positive Buzz Puts Schrader’s ‘Beginning’ On Fast Track

Could a little film called Paul Schrader’s Exorcist: The Beginning be proof that studios don’t know what’s good for us? Not that they ever did, but this could be a swift kick in their rear ends. Apparently the buzz from the special screening of the film in Brussels and the positive Variety review have prompted a quick release for the film, according to Fox News. “The payoff is that Morgan Creek and Warner Brothers are going to release “Paul Schrader’s Exorcist: The Beginning,” in the next two months.” Excited? Ok, excuse me for being a skeptic, but I am finding it really hard to believe that Paul Schrader’s version of Exorcist: The Beginning is that good. It’s going to be pretty hard for it to be any more of a mess than Harlin’s version and I’m sure it will be a good time, but perfection? Man I can’t wait to check this baby out! B-D reader Justin writes in that he just purchased the Australian DVD for Renny Harlin’s Exorcist: The Beginning, which hits DVD here in the States on March 1st- and to his surprise their was the trailer for Paul Schrader’s version of the film! The news gets better, Justin uploaded the trailer from the film, which can be downloaded by clicking the link inside! Warner Bros. Paul Schrader version of Exorcist: The Beginning, which is now being called Exorcist: The Prequel by the festival, is about to get a test run this February in Berlin. Schrader was replaced by Renny Harlin, who then went on to shoot an entirely different $50 million (review) film with changes in the key cast. When Warner Bros. announced it might release Paul Shrader’s version of ‘Exorcist: The Beginning‘ in theaters, I was speechless. If it was so bad in the first place that they had Renny Harlin redo the entire movie, why are they sticking it in theaters? Well it might happen, so we might as well look forward to it. I received an email today from Marychan14 who discovered the film just received an “R” rating by the MPAA. For all of you who are totally freaking out over Fox’s Alien vs Predator receiving a PG-13 by the MPAA- relax!! I’ve got one major word for you- POLTERGEIST… Remember this freaky film? Steven Spielberg’s terrifying horror film about ghosts was rated PG, yeah, PG! Poltergeist is easily one of the scariest films ever made and the MPAA are filled with a bunch of morons- so take a big breath and don’t worry about it.
