What a ridiculous waste of time! If you haven’t seen it, save yourself some time and avoid it.

The exorcist: The beginning wasn’t good. There was some nice gory scenes but it never was scary and a disgrace to the original. It was better than it’s sequels, but it never really went anywhere.

its an ok movie i guess…a good way to get people on the bad side of the exorcist series…

Being the odd man out, I actually liked this movie better than the original Exorcist. I enjoyed the story more although I still found the special effects to be on the campy side. Overall, not bad.

the only scene i remember clearly is the cross scene where the girl twists all the way around the cross to look at the main character. that has stuck in my brain as one of the coolest scary movie scenes ever. i guess the rest of the movie wasn’t as good though because that one scene washed the rest of it from my memory.

Renny Harlin isn’t a master filmmaker, we have established that, especially after he made a few tirds at the BO. This doesn’t prove that theory wrong. “The Beginning” is riddled with flaws throughout, and it relies more on gore to get to you as a viewer, than the terror we all felt in the first Exorcist. At the end of the day, this one won’t leave you disappointed, but also not completely satisfied.

There was nothing wrong with it, I thought that it was a pretty good movie overall. It wasn’t as good as the original, but what is? I don’t really think any movie these day’s can stand up to the original Exorcist movie.

Completely watchable, a little slow in places, but it had quite a bit of gore and the finale was fantastic! Just don’t expect the original, because it’s not a patch

Saw this film on tv last night it wasn’t anything great but still watchable. Although it was a bit slow in places in the end i kind of enjoyed it.

Harlin’s prequel is ok. Just ok. No more, no less. It’s way too long but gladly it never gets boring as it’s quite well paced. It’s never really suspenseful but at least it has a couple of pretty scary scenes. The acting is great (Stellan Skarsgard, James D’Arcy…), the camera work is often extremly stunning and the dialogue is mostly decent. Unfortunately the script is a horrible and annoying mess (full of unnecessary scenes, a ridiculous climax), many of the effects look shoddy and it’s packed with dumb and pointless satan/exorcist-clichés (crosses/reversed crosses, moving furniture, Linda Blair imitations etc.).
Absolutely nothing special but at least it’s as entertaining as other Harlin-flicks (“Deep Blue Sea”, “Elm Street 4″, …).

this one was diffently not scary as the 1973 excorcist beut one good part in this was the hyena scene killing eating the boy alive and his brother jsut staring in to space as his brother gets killed by them!!

A memorable experience. :D An amazing soundtrack, amazing acting, camera work, but overall, a good film.

well, after watching this movie I realized that it was not nearly as bad as I was expecting it to be. Stellen Skarsgard is a great actor, so I think that really benefitted the movie, and he fit the role of Merrin very very well. I can’t think of a whole lot of other actors who could play young Merrin. That being said, this movie was interesting, but not really a ‘horror’ movie. If stood alright on it’s own, but as something related to ‘The Exorcist’, I felt kind of sorry for it. They tried to make a prequel to the reigning “scariest movie of all time” champ, and just came out with a chilling drama about Africa :/ Not terrible, but not great. A little boring. You’ll find yourself going “okay, that’s fine… but… dear movie, please get to the point. Thank you! Sincerely, blank.”

Typical Renny Harlen production. Overly fast paced, rushed through, and clearly intended for mainstream audiences. The possession/exorcism scenes were laughable even with the good special effects. There’s a better version I’d like to see listed here called “Dominion”…by Paul Shrader which contains the same actors and many of the same scenes, but is an altogether different plotline.

This movie was such a waste of time. It was quite stupid except for, about, one part.
