In UK cinemas on December 22 is Ringu director Hideo Nakata’s English-language Chatroom, a psychological thriller about teenagers who encourage each other’s destructive behavior. 00′s Retrospect: Dead on Arrival — Ten Horror Duds of the Last Decade

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: this has been a great decade for horror films. Anyone who doesn’t think so simply hasn’t been paying attention. Of course, those successes likely wouldn’t have felt as sweet had there not been about four or five times as many bad ones, and following from that observation I’ve sifted through the cinematic garbage bin to put together this list of the worst. We’re not talking direct-to-DVD bargain-bin burners here; we normally expect those to be bad. We’re talking studio-released, mostly moderate-to-big-budget disasters with a lot of marketing and moolah behind them. These aren’t the hand grenades; these are the atom bombs whose explosions of craptastic-ness were too big to ignore. They’re listed in order of release rather than badness, since there’s just no way to rank these suckers in any meaningful order. They’re all terrible in their own unique and special way. Samara Looking to Return in ‘The Ring’ 3-D Sequel

Bloody Disgusting learned tis afternoon that there is brand new “talk” of continuing on with The Ring franchise with a potential third film in 3-D. No other details were available at this time. Originally conceived as a trilogy (much like the Japanese originals), in the 2002 remake by Gore Verbinski, which grossed nearly $250m at the box office worldwide , a young journalist must investigate a mysterious videotape which seems to cause the death of anyone in a week of viewing it. The sequel, The Ring Two, took in over $150m. Verbinski’s remake is critically acclaimed, and in my opinion, one of the best horror films this decade. What do you think about Samara returning in 3-D? Paramount Dumps ‘Eye’ Remake in Lion’s Lap

I couldn’t even tell you how long ago it was that Paramount Pictures announced their plans to remake the classic Asian horror pic The Eye. Over the course of the years, it was announced that Hideo Nakata (The Ring Two) would helm the pic (blech) and Renee Zellweger would star (but would soon drop out). The trail seemed cloudy and after The Ring Two bombed the fog thickened – I was pretty sure we’d never see it. But alas horror fans, the great Lionsgate is picking up the rights and is already eyeing Jessica Alba to star and in talks to have French helmers David Moreau and Xavier Palud direct! Read on for the skinny and say goodbye to Hideo… (more…) READ MORE

I’ve Gone Blind!!! ‘The Eye’ Gets Even Worse!

Man oh man, this is easily one of the absolute worst pieces of news I’ve ever had to report. I mean this is bad, even worse than C-C’s joke about Ryan Phillippe playing Leatherface years ago- which is also a hint at who I’m talking about. So what could be worse than Hideo Nakata directing The Eye remake, whom is the same man who destroyed his own franchise with The Ring Two?
