This was a very touching, hauntingly beautiful, difficult and devastating film about a young girl who was raped and murdered and isn’t ready to go to heaven so she is stuck in the in between from heaven and earth to see justice and bring her killer down. I haven’t read the book but what I’ve heard it seems like they had a difficult transition from book to film on their hands. To me I think they did a marvelous job with the film and it was expertly acted by everyone and Mark Wahlberg really impressed me here as the grieving father who wants justice and answers. Saoirse Ronan to me is a fearless actress in the making because it seems like every role she takes on is challenging, Dakota Fanning watch out! I liked how they did this film with class and care without showing us any of the graphic, bloody details but just after the fact and I’m glad they went that way because it was already grim to begin with. The director captured the atmosphere and the 1970′s perfectly and it was just an amazing visual feast for the eyes especially for a movie like this, it was extraordinary! I never cried during a movie but there is alot of scenes that will pull on your heartstrings, it did to me. It surprisingly ended well and as a whole I was very satisfied with this film and I think it’s a diamond in the rough, a gem of a film that I will remember for years to come. Overall I don’t quite understand why this isn’t getting rave reviews and is criminally underrated but I urge everyone to see this film if you want to see a movie out of the ordinary. Highly recommended! More of a 3.5 out of 5 stars. Job well done Peter Jackson!

I just got back from seeing this film and I can’t help but think it was nearly a masterpiece!!! Its hauntingly powerful and will leave you feeling scared(if you have them) for your kids but at the same time at the very end she says I hope you all have a long and happy life, makes me you think what does happen when we die?should we all stop our bitching and just be greatful?because I never had to go through something like losing my child and pray I never do!Its truly a beautiful film that has everything in it.Drama,Suspense,Fantasy, everything! And on top of all that the acting was all Oscar worthy especially Ronan,Wahlberg, and Tucci as much as I hated him!DON’T MISS THIS!Not ahorror film but a incredible film!

Best movie I’ve seen in 4 months. Everything about this movie was great. The acting, the story, the effects. I’m not really a Peter Jackson fan but I cannot imagine anyone else directing this great movie. Mark Wahlberg redeems himself from his last outing in The Happening. Rachel Weisz was great and Stanley Tucci deserves an award nomination. I hope people give this one a chance.

This is visually masterful and captivating, from the giant bottles to Susie walking on water, its hard to look away. It’s suspenseful and emotionally stirring, but falls rather flat at the end.

Stanley Tucci does a great job as the villain; I often found myself being disgusted at the sight of him. Mark Wahlberg’s performance is touching, and Sarandon brings a whim of much needed humor and sarcasm.

It’s a mesmerizing film. You couldn’t help but feel what the characters felt– Whether it was grief, anger, or determination (for catching the killer). It was an eerie, different film.
But almost lacked something (maybe more of a climax? But the book didn’t hold that either). Which I think prooves that not all stories can have a happy ending.

Peter Jackson once again puts CGI over good story telling, i found the afterlife sequences boring and drawn out, although the film was good when dealing with the real life situation.

this one should of gone to his pal Del Toro, the king of ghost stories.

Seriously, what the hell were the critics thinking. This is the best movie I’ve seen and usually I’m strict on movies. The lovely bones has it all. Great acting, solid character development, amazing visuals, and a top-notch script. I couldn’t ask for more. After it was over, I felt like seeing it again. Peter Jackson definitely delivered. Even someone expecting the next Godfather will be disappointed. I have a feeling the critics just wanted to trash this movie on purpose. This is as good as a modern film you’re going to get.

Stanley Tucci was really good but it felt like Jackson had lost his nerve with the more controversial elements of the novel

I enjoyed the Lovely bones, thought towards the end i felt it had become kind of cheesy, and predictable. It does really tug on your heart strings thought, and for what its worth, tells a very realistic story about a situation that happens much much to often. I’d say anyone whose got a heart should watch this film.

Is it wrong to expect anything but a masterpiece from Peter Jackson? I mean… c’mon: this guy continuously created masterpieces, think about “Braindead”, “Heavenly Creatures”, “The Frighteners” and of course “Lord Of The Rings”.
Unfortunately his newest effort (an adaptation of the novel of the same name) is no such masterpiece. Don’t get me wrong: it’s not a bad movie but it’s sadly way too flawed to mention it in the same breath as the above-mentioned ones.
It’s tense and visually stunning, and the story is interesting and quite powerful – sadly the script is just a mess, full of large plot holes and illogical or pointless scenes. The movie itself is way too long and most of the CGI scens are either poor-looking or just unnecessary. Thankfully the brilliant acting saves the movie from falling into mediocrity: an amazing Saoirse Ronan, a surprisingly stunning Mark Wahlberg, an amusing Susan Sarandon and a breathtakingly terrific Stanley Tucci who delivers the performance of his life.
Overall an ok but disappointing film.

Before I start this is not a horror movie I think it’s a mystery, Anyways I liked the beggening and middle of the movie and I thought the main actress is great I can’t wait to see her in more movies and TV Shows. I liked the movie but the ending was..

Don’t understand the problem people have with the ending. The only real flaw in this movie, is the stupid heaven scene’s. There is a bit of fairy tale syndrome in there, other than that, I think this film is underrated. Tucci is awesome and I don’t even like the guy. The ending is solid.

I like this film a lot. It doesn’t sit in one particular genre, but this isn’t a bad thing. I enjoyed each of the thriller/drama/supernatural elements of the film, although it was slightly too slushy for me at times.
The cast were fantastic (apart from Mark Wahlberg who was wooden at times), especially Saoirse Ronan who I think will be a future Oscar winner. I do think that some of the characters’s stories needed padding out more though as they didn’t have much depth to them.
Apart from my couple of complaints, I thought that the film was very well directed and it was suspenseful, moving and visually stunning.

Is not scary, just really creepy, pretty upsetting and strange, while having a terrific performance from Stanley Tucci here was just wow of that role and made the movie, Its beautiful to watch and is skilfully director and the acting by the cast is reasonable good, but can get way to and can get on too much to really get into soo very decent movie to watch and would like to see again but not really anything horrific in it (pretty plain compared to other, its more visual the movie is).
