First and foremost, this is not a horror movie. Like many Asian films this is a fantasy drama with horror elements. I normally try to avoid plot synopses in my reviews because I try to give the opportunity to the audience to view it as freshly as possible. This movie, however, needs a little explanation for the preparedness of the viewer to know what to expect. I’ll leave it short: A little boy’s fairytale coming true through terrible means. If you are watching the movie expecting “Nightmare on Elm Street” or “Dracula”, you will be disappointed. If you watch it in the same vein as “Silence of the Lambs” or “Terms of Endearment” (an odd combination, I know, but the connection is there) you will be delighted.
That being said, this is the only movie to ever make me turn my head from the screen because I couldn’t handle what I saw. I add a skull just for that.
Overall, this is a rather simple movie. It pretty much says there is a story to tell and this is that story. Don’t over analyze it, don’t nitpick just enjoy the story as it is.
