Actually original, and a breeze of fresh air (pun intended) to the genre.
    Blunt is fantastic as always.

This film was a nice entry in the ghost story genre. Emily Blunt is convincing and a capable actress to carry the entire film. It’s by no means a fantastic film, but if you like your horror with a little character you should give this film a viewing.

I actually thought a little more of this film than the BD review gave it credit for. I consider myself a gore hound. I appreciate exploitative images and graphic occurences in film… that’s just always been my thing. If a horror film does lack this (which this film does), then I rely on viscerality, cohesion, and good character development in horror films. In my opinion, these were all covered quite well. The atmosphere was well executed, and the acting was decent enough to suspend one’s disbelief. I guess this is just a hit or miss with most folks, but I don’t get scared easily, especially when there is no blood, guts, or intensity at all, instead this movie relied on it’s protagonistic embodiments to deliver scares, and, at least, my girlfriend and I digged this one.

Im glad I didnt listen to the review on this website because I think the film deserves more credit than what little has been given.
Comparing it to boogeyman and grudge and all that just seems a bit far off to me.
It’s a ghost story, yes, but to me the real horror of the picture is being stuck in freezing weather in the middle of nowhere, that fear alone drives the film I think and the fact it does have a ghost story in it is just another feature of the film which makes it less boring for people who cant pay attention to psychological films very well.
I felt there was good chemestry between the two main characters, I enjoyed the mystery of it as well, suggestions are given that one of the characters may be a bit off, which I thought added more mystery and suspense to the film.
The downside (which all films will normaly have) is some confusion where things seem to really be hapenning or not be hapenning…
Had they shuffled out some of these problems in the film it would have recieved a higher rating from me.
I really didnt see why the film is given a really bad wrap on this page, but then again this site also gave mulberry street and deaths of ian stone and the strangers all really low scores when those 3 films are all really great films.
Dont always go by reviews from people running a website because some films others just like more than others.
I try to watch movies based on knowing little about the story and trying to avoid knowing anything more before I watch it, go in with medium expectations and an open mind, then make a opinion about the film.

I have watched alot of horror films based on good reviews on this site, such as The last house in the woods and I absolutly hated it, so I dont go by everything they suggest and recommend.

If it sounds interesting watch it, you’ll never konw what films your missing out there if you believed everything people say.

i thought it was fairly good i thought blunt did a really great job and i loved the story i thought it was something a little different and more original than your average horror flick these days.

    BUT

there are a couple of downsides, some of the scenes just dont seem to fit and some parts of the story just dont make sense

on the whole though i did enjoy the movies its a fun hour an a half that has a few moments of geniune suspense and kept me guessing to the end, but if you hate plotholes that i advice you stay very well away from this movie

EH, No gore and limited scares. The atmosphere was pretty gloom, but the scare factor I was looking for was not there.

A really dark, mood drenched intelligent little thriller with a strong lead performance from Emily Blunt. In it’s supposed simplaisticness it manages to pull some great scares along with a truly intriguing storyline.

I thought this was a really good ghost type thriller. It kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time and also had a very dark mood to it. Wish there were more scares and gore though. Also the pacing is very slow so if you cant stand those types of movies than stay away.

Blunt and Holmes did some good acting here, and the slow build up was (emphasis on WAS) working–too bad everything else crumbled around them. What had a nice start as an interesting possible psycho/stalker-style thriller turned into a mess(!) of a stupid ghost story that totally sucked. The film was shot beautifully for the mood, and the scenery had a real dark feel to it–sometimes too dark, ala Alien vs Predator: Requiem. Daring to be different ruined what could have been a decent, suspenseful flick, and some talent was wasted in the process.

If you like a good, atmospheric ghost story, as I do, then I would recommend this movie. I don’t know why there are so many bad reviews, the acting is solid and the production values seemed pretty decent. If you’re looking for a gorefest look elsewhere, this is not that movie. Also, if you’re the type to get bored easily, this may turn you off, as most of the movie takes place inside of a car, and focuses on just two characters. For everyone else who likes to turn off the lights, sit in silence and absorb the atmosphere of a movie, I say give it a go, it’s quite a decent movie.

While flawed, Wind chill is a decent horror flick that is suspenseful and atmospheric. But let’s not get off track here: It’s not really special and doesn’t leave a strong impact on you, but it is still better than a handful of horror movies that are unoriginal and not worthy of your time.

First off, I thought the characters were well developed. Could we have gone more in-depth with them? Yes, but for a horror film to even “develop” characters is automatically a huge bonus. Second of all, this movie did not rely on gratuitous blood spray or cheap jump scares. The scares were provided by atmosphere, isolation, and sound. Furthermore, I thought this movie had some really solid suspense. Rarely in horror films am I a little tense, but this movie did have me a little concerned at moments, which was pretty good.

Although, the good outweighs the bad, there is still some negatives. This movie had some predictable moments. Now don’t get me wrong, this movie was mostly devoid of cliches and predictability, but there was the occasional “I knew that was going to happen” moments. Also, the resolution of the film feels unsatisfying. Sure it ends on a positive note, but it still feels unsatisfying.

Overall, Wind Chill is nothing special and doesn’t have a lot going for it, but in a day and age of remakes, reboots, or just flat-out copycats, it’s good to see one original movie. This film has some decent moments of suspense and the characters aren’t too unlikable. Some predictable moments and the ending aside, this film isn’t too bad. And honestly, while you can do better, you can do worse. Is this a recommendation? A slight one, but hey, isn’t it better for a film to go out of its way and not “totally” amaze us, than for a film to not put any effort or soul and not “really” amaze us?

Wind Chill is spooky but flawed. I could watch Emily Blunt knit and be entertained.

the movie isn’t really as bad as other reviews claim
    it has advantages:
    -very nice special effects
    -vivid characters
    -great scary scenes(but very few)
    -a decent performance by E.Blunt
-the point of the story is revealed in the end instead of the beginning
    and disadvantages:
-very few scary scenes(but great ones)
-boring plot(probably as boring as Paranormal Activity)
    -awful ending
that’s why the whole thing is very average and not the kind of film that you’ll remember after a decade
    but still worth watching

There are so many things wrong with “Wind Chill” I literally do not know where to begin! But if you hate a film where you think it’s wasted your time by the end of it, then “Wind Chill” is definitely NOT for you. Although I did enjoy insulting it with my family :)

Sort of like “The Happening”, it seem as if it has potential from the first 15 minutes or so. I was thinking that if they could get the ghost story part right, then this could be a winner. But also like “The Happening” the film fell flat on its face from the moment a snake slithered out some yellow electricuted ghost man (no it’s worse than it sounds!) The biggest problem being the apology for a script (as my granny would say, if you replaced the word “script” with “chip”) it was completely all over the place, I could write an essay on the problems with the screenplay but I can’t be bothered at the mo. Main problems being: The lack of exploration, way too much characterization, no scares, completely tangled story-line, lack of focus. All make for one tediously bad film.

As I said to my sister whilst watching this, the description for the film should’ve been “romantic drama set in a car” because that was all it was! If you’re scared of the cold, then you’d probably start frothing at the mouth, but to be honest a bit of snow isn’t really going to provoke any strong emotion from me! It started off as a cold “The Hills Have Eyes” going to the “GAAAS” station, taking a short-cut, being run-off the road, deciding to walk back to the “GAAAS” station. The similarity ends there because whilst “The Hills Have Eyes” is a near-perfect masterpiece (Aja’s vesion) “Wind Chill” is the complete opposite. Because then the rest of the film is the couple talking in the car, which builds some nice character building, but we don’t need that for the whole bloody film!

Apparently a ghost walking past the car every few minutes just to remind us we’re watching a horror film is enough to scare us. Well it did my mum but she’s excitable. Really, the ghost sub-plot was a complete mess! Were the priests meant to be the villains? No the policeman was! In which case the policeman was not in it anywhere near enough and when he was it was not memorable or frightening. I’m sorry but only Pinhead can do a villain cameo, not some crappy policeman! What I’m trying to get at, is that it was unfocussed. There was hardly any action and when there was, it completely back-tracked itself by making it out that it was all a blummin’ dream. “It was all a dream” is the worst thing you can ever put into ANY story my junior teacher (Mrs Chapburn, irrelevant I know) used to say.

Then the last 15 minutes or so goes completely down the pan, I didn’t have a clue what was going on and I don’t expect the actors did either. So, please avoid, if you want a good ghost story with good atmosphere (just putting snow outside doesn’t mean you’re making a chilling atmosphere!) Go and watch “The Shining” or “The Others” or something because this is a waste of time.
