This is one of the most original horror movies i’ve seen in a long time. Full of well-known likable actors that seemed to be having fun and really got into their roles. I hate to say it, but David Arquette (director/co-writer) is one weird and talented dude.

I liked it. It was funny, charming, and had an original plot. On top of that, Ronald Reagan actually makes a pretty kick-ass killer!

Ronald Reagan slashing hippies. AWESOME!!! I loved it! The gore is awesome and so are the kills. I may be going out on a limb, but I think the massacre scene where Ronnie kills 10 hippies, or so, is just as great as the raft masscre in The Burning. In that scene, I loved the POV angle on the axe to make it look like it was a scene from a video game. The Tripper is definitely one of the best(in the top 10) modern slasher films. I hope I can find a Ronald Reagan mask this Halloween.

Great “B” movie! Tons of fun, and littered with B-list celebrities. The kills are fun, and the political references are epic.

I was not expecting much. I don’t think anyone was. What a pleasant surprise it turned out to be! A great ode to classic slasher films, and a solid endorsement for Obama!(lol) David Arquette is one goofy dude, but this movie turned out quite alright. Look close, and you’ll find Pee-Wee Herman.

Sorry, BD, this time I have to disagree. I thought this film was atrocious. So so goddamn boring. The kills weren’t even inventive (I don’t even remember any of them). Arquette is heading towards Boll Island. Big fail.

This cool little slasher is co-written and directed by David Arquette and stars many a faces, here’s a few names:Coutney Cox,A few of the Arquettes,Jamie King,Balthazar Getty,Lucas Haas, jason Mewes and of all people Thomas Jane.

The story is about a kid who sees his dad being slapped around by a tree-hugging protestor and then takes the matter into his own hands by running a chainsaw through the protestors neck.

Now moving ahead to present day we meet Samantha who has been abused/traumatised by her ex-boyfriend and is on a camping like trip with her little group of pot head/hippieThe Tripper friends. They arrive at this “Freedom-Fest”,Tree-Hugging”,Free-Love”concert/fair type thing right in the middle of the woods.Things start happening(of course) and the town Deputy with Mayor involved(kind of) try to sort some kind of order in the chaos that has begun in the woods.there is a crazy killer on the loose who is wearing a Ronald Reagan mask and carrying a hatchet and even leaves jelly beans as hos calling card. So,who is this masked guy running around?Samantha’s ex,the kid from the beginning all grown up or one of our beloved characters gone bad?I’m not elling! You have to watch it or if you have then you know!I like this movie, great job by Mr.Arquette! We”ll see the Arqettes again soon in Scream 4,5 and 6….Oops did i say that! Ssshhhhh…

I don’t know how anyone could hate this movie. Seriously, if you go into this film knowing it’s about a guy who thinks he’s Ronald Reagan shredding hippies to bits, how can you complain? You get exactly that and more.

For a slasher flick it’s incredibly stylized; manages to be full of wit and both social and political commentary from opposing sides. I mean it rips into hippies like crazy, metaphorically and literally, but also dishes out the goods on the republican party as well.

Not to mention the film also sports a wacky, money grubbing Paul Reubens in his best role since Pee Wee’s Big Adventure. How no one else seems to even recognize him blows my mind. How old are the people who frequent this site?!

Anyone looking for an over the top comedic slasher flick should definitely look into this. Be disappointed, I dare you to try.

David Arquette has just slapped horror fans in the face by making this movie. There is nothing creative or intriguing about this awful title. Arquette thinks that you can make a bloody movie with political (Republican) satire and appease the moronic masses. Well, Arquette was right if we are to judge by the ratings some people gave it.

He has just proven that anyone can make a horror movie and have it be successful with drugs and blood. There is nothing smart about this movie.

I’m pretty sure that this was supposed to have comedic elements, but I found nothing funny. If you want political humor, watch Dennis Miller, because at least he has content and meaning. Arquette just made a movie that says “this party is bad, yeahhhhh!” The sad thing is that people followed this!

Is the horror community so juvenile and uneducated that all it takes is some underwhelming kills, drug-induced aestheticism, and verification of confirmation bias to like a movie?

I am no longer disappointed in movie makers making bad horror movies, because the fans are to blame. Fans are bottom feeding know-nothings in need of an educational beating, and this is why we can’t get a good horror movie.

I want nothing more than to give a 0 out of 10, but it seems that I do not even have the option of giving it a 1 out of 10. Due to scoring accessibility, this gets a huge increase in score.

David Arquette… you are absolutely worthless.

fun movie but it has its flaws.
You really cant take the acting seriously cause its a throwback to 70s slasher movies. Funny at times but some of the jokes fall a tad bit flat. all in all, the tripper was a fun, bloody, throwback that had a ronald reagon mask wearing man hacking up hippies.

this movie was awesome for 4 reasons:

1, the graphic violence and blood and gore

2, since it’s about hippies, it takes you on a trip to 70s when hippies populated

3, i hate hippies, and so does everyone else, so you’re always rooting for Ronald Reagan to kill the hippies

4, David Arquette directs this movie

    The Tripper
Is a campy, funny Movie by the demented mind of David Arquette. They dont skimp on the Gore either~!!
I really enjoyed this movie,it was original but had all elements that I have come to love as a slasher fanatic but it also had elements that set it apart and made me feel like I was seeing something fresh and new.
The experienced cast only lends to the films like ability.
The stand out cast member is “Jason Mewes” of Clerks and Jay and Silent Bob fame.
What could be worse than tripping on acid and seeing a guy in a Ronald Reagan mask getting ready to chop your head off?
A George Bush Mask? EEEEK..This film gets an A for originality..

I didnt really care for the first 50 minutes but it turns out pretty good after all. The Ronald Reagan killer looks insane and he goes apeshit on the hippie party! Thomas jane gives an solid performance but i can,t figure out who Courtney Cox played. In overal the movie was OK not great but not bad either. If your looking for a slasher there are tons of better ones out there.. but that can,t change the fact i had a good time with The Tripper.

Liked some of the characters, a couple ok scenes of violence…but lots of boredom for the most part. I know it is the theme of the film, but the hippie/drugged out thing got extremely old as the movie carried on. Thought Arquette did fine with his turn at the helm, and the cast was ok for what it is–but this just isn’t a good slasher movie.

The tripper is a mixed bag. It has good qaulities such as a cool killer, some nicley shot scenes and some pretty awesome kills. It is also often funny. But these qood qaulities are surrounded by many flaws. Some of the scenes are not shot well, choppy editing, and the film as a whole is not very well put together. It also is a hyper-stylized film. Even though it can be cool sometimes with crazy video effects, it is more often annoying. It’s worth a watch for the kills but it’s too flawed to call it a good slasher. It’s merely a decent one.

    Score: 6.5

I’m not a fan of David Arquette. I think he’s a quite untalented actor, his appearances in “Eight Legged Freaks” and the “Scream” films are rather annoying – yet, now that I’ve seen “The Tripper” I have to admit that he’s at least a good director. Arquette’s directorial debut may be not a masterpiece, but it’s definitely one helluva great fun ride!

The plot is simple but hilariously brilliant: a demented killer with a Ronald Reagan mask chops off hippies at some kinda Free Love Festival.

The actors/characters: nothing special. Lots of drug-addicted hippies, a bunch of rednecks and some dumb cops. At least they are all pretty entertaining, delivering loads of funny dialogue and one-liners.
(f.e. “Well, what dou you want us to sing, Frank? Taps?” – “God, I don’t give a fuck if you sing motherfucking Kumbaya. Just get the fuck out there. We have a contract by grace of George fucking Washington, you motherfucking fucking fucks!” :-)

The killer: absolutely great! A terrific-looking Reagan-mask and a nice suit. Kills everything that gets in his way with axes, chainsaws and knifes. (Highlights: the gruesome hippie massacre at the end and the gory opening).

Furthermore, the camera work is mostly really good, the soundtrack is cool and, although it could have been a bit more tense or suspenseful, it never gets boring.

Overall, a really great and enjoyable fun-slasher!
PS: “President Evil” is IMO a way better title.

By the numbers slasher with a strong political bent; it lacks solid kills(the first and last are the only memorable ones)and any kind of tension. Its saving grace is the decent acting and production value as well as the fact that yes, there is a certain thrill in watching a dude dressed up as Regan butchering hippies.

The Ultimate Movie Review! – http://tss5078.blogspot.com – @tss5078 – From the twisted mind of David Arquette, come the Tripper, a Horror film, that he promised would change the way we see Horror. There’s no doubt that Arquette set big expectations for this film, unfortunately the Tripper fell well short of achieving it’s goals. A group of hippies take a road trip to this weekend music festival, in the woods of Northern California. The locals don’t want them there and pretty soon, the party goers wind up being hunted, by an ax wielding man, who is convinced he’s Ronald Reagan. The cast of friends that Arquette put together for this film is impressive, and there were some terrific cameos from the likes of Jason Mewes, Courtney Cox, and Pee Wee Herman, but ultimately they didn’t do much to help this film. There are some funny scenes and some great lines, aside from that, this film is nothing different from your traditional, mediocre, slasher film. The one stand out was Thomas Jane who was thrilling as the Sheriff, but the scenes that didn’t feature Jane were predictable and honestly kind of dull. The setting was different, the killer was certainly a nice change of pace, and the cast was top notch, but the movie itself was nothing you haven’t seen a million times and I was left feeling less than impressed.

Official Score: 3.5 / 5
