I liked it because it was weird and original. At the same time I didn’t like it because it made little sense (which didn’t work for it, in this case) and some scenes were anti-climactic and somewhat cheesy. Overall, though, it’s worth a watch. Just don’t expect to know what happened in the end, and don’t expect an amazing twisted ending. There isn’t one. It just . . . ends.

Here is an idea. Hire one of the world’s best cinematographers, Christopher Doyle, and actually use him! Every time there was beautiful shot the editor wouldn’t let it be on screen for even 3 seconds. Shame on you M.N.S. The Happening will suck no matter how much you tell us its rated R

I guess you have to be smart and educated to appreciate this film which was a risk for MNS. Literature is almost dead in America for people under 25 and this entire film was a huge exploration in modern and classic storytelling with the common formula for a great book. On film. The only thing is most of the audience didn’t catch the wink.

Very interesting fairy tale here, unlike his previous movies, m. night creates something really different this time around, very well casted and interesting characters carry the movie well without the heavy use of special efffects except a few here and there, very good humor in this film as well. overall very fun movie and interesting, definatly worth a watch.

Brian Buzz Jergens, well said. I don’t think I liked this movie nearly as much as I should have until I read your review and reflected upon my initial judgement… Plus Paul Giamatti is one of our world’s finest actors. This is definately worth another viewing soon.

One of the best movies I’ve ever seen. I still don’t get all the hate. I loved this film. It was sad, it was moving, and it was funny when it was meant to be. The acting was solid and the fairy tale was something exotic and fresh. The film, I thought was highly suspenseful and a great story that was told. If everybody hates it, I’ll say it’s a guilty pleasure. If it isn’t, then I will be the first one to say this is one of the best movies I have seen. It was mysterious, it was suspenseful, and one of the best movies that I’ve ever seen.

Sham-a-lam-a-ding-dong does it again and, by that I mean, he’s led you to believe he’s created something amazing only to reveal it’s a big turd that sits before you. A big turd that makes noise and wants to add itself to your dvd collection, but you keep saying, “No Lady in the Water! That’s a bad Lady in the Water!”

I mean, props for making a movie about a creepy fairytale, but it’s got nothing on the original Grimm brothers. And as for trying to defy conventions, Mr. Shyamalan, you’ve just annoyed your audience. The film critic who acts as if he’s a character in a movie? (though he is, I get it; but to be self aware is just retarded) What the eff is that shit?

This is the first of 2 Sham-a-lam-a-ding-dong movies where I was DYING for a twist ending.

OMG, is what I feel… There Shyamalan goes again with the illusion of real vision… After this movie I was left miserable, I couldn’t even understand how I wasted my time watching the enitre movie… For anyone to even rate this movie is unimaginable to me I think it may be top 25 worst movie I’ve ever been put through and how he gets movie to do films is beyond me…

This isn’t horror, it’s supernatural sweetness. A very beautiful bedtime story.

I really liked this movie, however, I feel like Shaymalan’s movie’s are falsly advertised as “horror” when they’re never supposed to be horror films, and therefore people are always disappointed in them. I love Shyamalan personally. I think he’s a wonderful mind in Hollywood.

Again, NOT horror. It was a suspense movie.

But still, I believe people don’t give Shyamalan enough credit. He really is a good director. Some of his movies sucks, some are good, a few are exceptional.

This is one of those “good” ones. It’s not great, but it’s not terrible either.

    That wolf-thing WAS rather freaky…

Official Score: 3.5 / 5
