This movie is horrible. The acting not bad but the story is ridiculous. They tried to incorporate all these different aspects of horror into this tiny movie that it all could not fit and just seems rushed and nothing was answered or even finished just and end to the movie but nothing that was started finished. This is a waste of anyones time to watch.

The ending was TOO open. It let you decipher the story yourself but it didn’t give you enough clues to even begin. I’m thinking about a million different things by the end that I’m not even scared, just frustrated.

Another decent one from “Raw Feed.” Aside from its obvious low budget, this is an entertaining little “Survival” flick. Decent gore, decent suspense. I wouldnt rank this among my top 20, but i’d definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a good time.

First saw this while I was bored watching TV. It stuck in my head and I eventually bought it. I think we all know this movie isn’t something you watch if you are looking for an original and intelligent plot line. In fact I can see where they blatantly ripped off scenes from other horror movies. But it was extremely entertaining and that is all I’m looking for.

I am all for leaving a film open for interpretation, but Rest Stop is just too much..
At one moment the killer is a man in a yellow truck, the next a supernatural being… Is the girl high, experiencing a supernatural event…or is she stuck in a horror film that makes as much sense as a travelling family in a rundown RV with a mutant baby going haywire with a poloroid camera?
If i had to mention one plus in RS, it was the gore…

After seeing the trailer for this film I said to myself “This movie is gonna rock!”. Sadly I was mistaken…

The film gives the impression that the writer and director simply rented twenty popular horror films and grafted bits together to form the plotline of Rest Stop. At times I felt that there were three or four plots running simultaneously, and at other times I just felt disappointed by so many pointless or confusing scenes. Character development was almost non-existent in this film, thus it was hard to empathise with the lead female or her ill-fated partner. Additional characters (the caravan family and the cop) were simply confusing and at times it appeared as though they had been transplanted from another film. The villain was neither menacing nor knowable, and appeared to hide his repressed homosexuality behind his stick-on moustache. The gore had simply been lifted out of Hostel and once again felt removed from the central story-line (where exactly was the bus?).

Far and away the most frustrating/annoying element was the ‘ghost’ business whereby the director has decided that he wishes to cross genres into the supernatural for some unknown reason. In my view this served no purpose other than to cheat and confuse the audience.

The ending of the film was no better. Alternate endings are included in the DVD extras and ALL of these are better than the one included in the film. Tune in to the video blog included in the extras if you don’t feel that the storyline was confusing enough.

    In a word, disappointing.

there’s some bad reviews here, i’m not sure why. this movie wasn’t as bad as some say it is. SPOILER AHEAD!! yeah, it’s a goofy plot, but you can piece it together. i don’t think the driver was supernatural, just a member of the strange family in the mobile home. i DO think the ghost was the girl in the broom closet, however, then our heroine took her place.

“A movie too shocking for theaters”??? Shocking, yes, if you have never seen the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Wolf Creek, or ANY other “crazy redneck sadistic killer in the middle of nowhere” film. This film made absolutely no sense. There are a lot of, what are apparently supposed to be creepy and disturbing, scenes that come out of nowhere and then are never explained. Instead of lending a sense of terror and tension, they just make the film confusing and ridiculous. Maybe that was intentional as to divert your attention from the fact this has been done a million times, with way more scares and infinitely more disturbing imagery. Having traveled a considerable amount, I’ve always found rest areas a bit creepy, which led me to give this film a chance. It starts out slow, leads to generic, and ends up utterly nonsensical and confusing. I’m usually pretty easy on horror films. As long as they are fun, I’ll take unoriginality. In this case, I should have just rewatched the original Chainsaw.

I liked this movie, it was a little out there but it was good. The only thing thats fucked up is that you have to watch the second one to understand what the fuck was going on in this one. I liked that one to so fuck it

This was something i was looking forward to because on the DVD, it says “Too Shocking For Theatres”. Well that was a load of rubbish. It isn’t real gorey and if this wasn’t allowed in cinemas the Saw franchise shouldn’t. This movie isn’t even gorey and so many other horrors are much have much more blood and guts. It was a pretty complex storyline that was believable to an extent. One scene i was really looking forward to on the trailer was the bus scene. There was a five second scene in the bus.
The plot was so complex and i felt that even if it went into cinemas, it wouldn’t have made a big impact.
The acting wasn’t great. Some scenes of terror were well acted but other than those the scenes weren’t well acted. I can’t explain how much boredom you feel at the end when it’s really acted badly and predictable.
Overall Rest Stop was predictable, unbelievable, and just plain boring. My rating is 2/5

Dumbest movie ever. The overview stated it was a cat and mouse game….i’ve seen mice smarter that this chick. mice try to get away…she just stayed in the rest stop and got drunk and waited to die….the end. the “killer” gave her sooooo many chances to get away.

dont even waste your time with this movie

    actually rated it a none

God I wanted this movie to end so bad. Didn’t even attempt to be interesting or to stand out. Yeah, a crazy dude who ties down his victims and hammers nails and drills into them. Sounds like fun. But where’s the tension? Where’s the “omg, that was awesome”? It’s just plain not there.

Plus, Joey Lawrence should receive the award for worst cameo ever, in the just hurry up and die already category.

It was pretty well made and the score that emphasized the flute really gave this a unique 60′s horror feel. The downside is that the story never explained itself and the “encounters” she had seemed only to be a filler instead of signs of a twist (like she might be in hell or dead or something)… It was watchable though and the lead actress did well enough to keep me interested.

Its an alright film. Unoriginal plot, satisfactory acting and a decent dollop of gore. I wouldn’t go as far as saying its awful, or 1/10 like some user reviews here are doing.

Pros: Gore, and a killer with no remorse

Cons: Plot, acting, never see the killer, no character development, boring, but mainly too predictable.

If you’re a real gorehound, worth a rent. If not, move on.

    4/10

No gore or twisted kills can save this film
It was a drawn out horror film…It just couldn’t pull it off, I didn’t find it very good.
The movie tries, but it’s story is too boring. I find reading the stuff on public bathroom walls more exciting then this. It’s ending doesn’t make any sense either. The ending just makes the whole movie become a waste of time.

Found this to be a bit too implausible and ridiculous for my taste. The lead actress is annoying, and another character can unbelieveably have casual conversation about love and life right after being hit by a truck, run over twice, and dragged to a bathroom floor–yeah, ok. Not any real thrills, lots of bad crying, and horror/gore that isn’t anything to remember. I didn’t turn it off or quit watching, so I guess I’ll give it an extra half skull for that.

I thought it was a really good film. Not really like your everyday slasher film. I like the supernatural twist throughout the movie and has some ver creepy scenes in it. Very good film and I think you need to check it out.

I think Rest Stop is just ok for a movie of that type. When I say “that type” I mean: look at the cover, the trailer… There’s no doubt what movie delivers. And it works just fine. It’s not pretentious, it doesn’t try too hard, it’s very gory, sometimes over the top and more than it should be, it’s creepy enough, acting is not too good but also, not overly bad.
Some scenes are stupid and unnecessary, as well as redneck family (which is completely unused), Lawrence’s acting is horrible, but otherwise, it’s fun gory silly cheap movie.
    Really, what did you expect?

Official Score: 2.5 / 5
