An interesting enough concept, cool looking reapers, and the BD review is right about the last line (What’s the matter, scared?) it is great!
the movie is entertaining and fun overall
I’ve been reading bloody-disgusting.com daily since its inception, and I’ve loved because it truly speaks to fans of horror. However there have been times the Mr. Disgusting has hyped me up for a movie that ended up being complete shit ( Evil Aliens ), and has gave negative reviews for movies that I went on to really enjoy, and “The Deaths of Ian Stone” are one of those movies.
While the movie is in no way destined to be a classic, its certainly enjoyable. Its starts off as a typical horror move, turns into a mystery and ends as a sort of demonic action movie. Maybe Mr.D saw a different cut than I, but there is definitely some originality here, and has a refreshing twist, much different than I expected. Maybe its not worthy of your theater dollars, DO NOT pass this up on DVD as you’ll be missing out on a solid film.
It had the budget but the story is really shady and the gore is so/so. Interesting story that is unique just go into it with low expectations. If you do, you might like it.
i just started renting the afterdark horrorfest 2 movies and this is the 2nd one i watched and i bet it’ll be the most inrestibg 2. first of all i’ll enjoy any movie with one of my fav actors Mike Vogel. He acts very good and all the horror movies hes been in(thexas Chainsaw Massacre Remake, Cloverfield) I have enjoyed. The deaths are awesome the blood is descent and the story is different. this is one of the best supernatural movies i’ve seen! well time 2 go back 2 blockbuster and rent more movies!
The 6the best of the 8.
This movie was an incomprehensible mess. The only reason it received an R rating was the amount of blood on the character in one of the deaths. It wasn’t suspenseful, or horrific. The sad thing about the 8 Films To Die For series is that it usually means it’ll be 8 movies to run from. After seeing several of 2006 & 2007 entries…I’m done with the series. They’re not very well put together. With the exception of the Hamiltons. That was killer.
stupid and unoriginal
This was a guilty plessure. Up until the ending that ruined the whole thing.
very average. not that great.
I really loved this movie for it’s originality, most people didnt like this movie for some reason, but overall i felt it was a very fun horror movie, and one of the last Stan Winston (rest in peace) produced movies he ever made, i hope he liked the final product of the film, because i enjoyed it very much and have watched it at least 3 times now. i can understand why some people wont like this, ive heard people complain about “matrix” types of outfits, but im not going to let some wardrobe comparisons botch a film’s experience for me
it was decent not to great
fantastic! i loved this film. i heard so many horrible and bad reviews about this film, and to me it wasn’t really scary in any way, but this film was fantastic! the first part of it was kind of slow and made me so confused as to what was going on, but it was just interesting enough to keep me watching. i saw this movie on the scifi channel and with no hopes at all for this movie because of all the bad reviews it had gotten. i would have to say that the actually story and plot of this movie are amazing, and i love the whole “im gonna be a reaper and kick the crap out of the other reapers” thing at the end. the only thing that made me dislike this film like 7% is what Ian looked like when he turned into a reaper, they could’ve had him look so much cooler. but other than that i highly recommend this movie for just a fun story (not really scary) movie
The best horrorfest movie so far. It had some blood. Every minute in this movie is running away from these ghost looking like creatures. When i first heard of it i didn’t think it was going to be good. But at the end it was excellant.
Buy this movie.
the best thing in this movie was the graphics, they were excellent, the buildup dissapointed me, oh, he was one of them, predictable and stupid. ya know i really wouldnt even consider this a horror movie.
I am so unsure why people favored this movie in horrorfest so much. I hated it, it wasn’t horror, it wasn’t..anything! Everything was just..ingredients thrown in a broken bowl. I watched it, all the way through hoping the next scene would be a tad better than the last, (with fingers crossed the whole time) I’m very sorry, this just wasn’t great, even if it was in the thriller 1$ bin, I’d keep walking becasue this was pure silly. I mean it, one of the worst. Bah, humbug!
it was okay
it’s an alright movie but not as good as it could have been
I’ve only got one question for you-can I have my 87min back please-
A great movie to sit back with your favorite adult beverage, some popcorn, and not put a lot of thought or effort into it. Yes, it’s obviously predictable. No, it’s not a great movie. But for some damn reason I enjoyed it and had a good time. And Jaime Murray looks great in red latex! Don’t expect the second coming of horror films and you certainly could do worse.
TOO BORING N UNORIGINAL…….do not waste utr time on dis crap….
It is simply ok .Not original but ok simply
I loved the idea of this story. Movie started off really great. Was gripping…but then…it turned badish….Looked like the costume designer had worked on the Matrix… and the diaglogue in some parts were a little bad. I think if just the costumes were different I would be giving this movie 8 out of 10. Overall I still enjoyed it.
Of all the After Dark Horrorfest films of 2007, “The Deaths Of Ian Stone” was undoubtedly the best! Overall, the film is very well made (especially on the small budget), also the fact that it had some originality to it.. and i believe this was the only film from the After Dark Horrorfest 2007 that I think would’ve deserved a theatrical release on its own.. although there were a couple of other movies that were pretty good too! i liked the whole idea of these ghoulish predators “harvesters” who feed off fear & pain.. the special effects were amazing and the Mike Vogel did a pretty good job playing the character who is continuously killed & tormented by the harvesters! everything is extremely good up until the moment when the revelation is made.. the first half is rock solid.. but in the second half, the movie goes a bit downhill.. but it does’nt completely ruin it! Sure it was not a groundbreaking horror film reeking of pure originality.. but it was much better than most of the horror crap that is thrown at us now-a-days! i enjoyed this movie for what it was.. and i recommend everyone to watch it.. dont let all the negative reviews get in the way.. give it a chance!
Kind of like a scifi original, but better quality. It’s a decent time killer.
A highly interesting and pretty remarkable horror-thriller in the vein of “Matrix” and “The Butterfly Effect”, unfortunately a bit too flawed and unoriginal.
*Actors – all good and convincing, especially the underrated Mike Vogel
*Plot – imaginative and pretty gripping, sadly with too many holes and unanswered questions
*Script – quite good. Pacing and dialogue are great, yet the last half hour is a bit shiftless and too unsuspenseful
*Soundtrack – I just love it: powerful, sweeping and really eargasmic!
*Special Effects – terrific, absolutely terrific (considering that this is a low budget movie)
*Settings – look ok but there’s nothing special about it
*Deaths – could have been way gorier, way more brutal
Furthermore I add that it’s promising in the 1st third, brilliant in the 2nd third and disappointing in the 3rd third.
Overall one of the better After Dark flicks, still it could have been much better.
Its a pity someone pays these guys to review films with their “expert” opinion when all it is, is a subjective criticism that anyone off the street could make. Thats the irony about “professional reviews”…. what a joke.
Interesting concept that falls apart the more you learn about it. Someone repeatedly dying in a gruesome way, only to awaken a little bit further in their life? Interesting. Sadly, it suffers from “Clive Barker Syndrome”, where the exlpanation is so ridiculous it makes you wonder why you cared so much for the first half of the film. More information here:

I’m not sure what this is all about. But it feels cool and mike vogel is hot. The premise is interesting and although amateurly executed feels fresh. Sure some light touches on the cgi and maybe some editing in the films length could have made for an overall more enjoyable and intriguing experience. But The results here feel solid enough to merit a reccomendation. More fun than you’d think. Check this sci-fi/fantasy/horror hybrid flick out.
I liked it. Very different. It’s like if groundhog day was a horror movie.
interesting, but I lost interest halfway through. lol
