I had the pleasure of screening this film at the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin with Uwe Boll in the audience to introduce and answer questions about the movie. This movie would have been good even without the explanations, but it sure didn’t hurt. All in all similar in spirit to the classic unkillable killer movies like Halloween and the later Friday the 13th movies, but Boll takes it in another direction. He has a point to all the gory depictions, but it gets a little lost along the way. All in all a great film if you’re a fan of serious gore. Basically if sick and twisted is your bag, you won’t be disappointed, but if you really want to be scared this movie just doesn’t deliver.
pretentious garbage.
pretentious garbage.
pretentious garbage.
I thought it was everything it was suppose to be an unstopable killer who leaves lots of dead bodies so therefore i was not disappointed.
I cant believe the reactions of some reviewers (thedescent08) by your name alone I know you have no knowledge about the horror genre at all.
ZombieHunter says the descent08 has no knowledge in the horror genre based on his name?! the descent was one of the better horror films in the past several years and ZombieHunter is a huge idiot and needs to stop insulting other memembers with his rambling and uneductaed nonsense. Seed is quite terrible, not as bad as thedescent08 says, but still doesn’t deserve a rating of 5/10 like zombiehunter gave it.
I just saw it and I think it really sucked. I still can’t figure out what the dying animals are all about at the beginning of the movie, and if the guy killed 666 people, why did he get his ass kicked so easy by that cop? A punch in the head and a kick to the balls?
Alright, so when you compare this to his other movies (barring Postal, which was actually pretty awesome) this movie is very well done. He clearly is improving in his script writing, and the cinematography is general is much better on this outing. The graphic nature of this movie was what I was looking for when I got it, and it pleases for the most part. The one thing I’m confused about is the cover. Who is she? and why does she have the knife on the back of the case? They play her off as a main character, when really she’s not even in the movie. At first I thought it might have been the main characters daughter (Jodelle Ferland) but I looked closer, and that is definitely not her.
I FUCKIN HATE BOLL WITH A LIVIN PASSION BUT I THINK I WILL CHECK THIS OUT…JUST TO SEE.
UWE BOLL RULES!!!
You can add this to the list of other Boll disasters—one of his better ones..but still just awful. The script was terrible, the story was predictable, and the editing was all over the place..it’s like Mr. Boll got a copy of Adobe Premiere and decided to have fun with, not really professional. I wonder if Rifftrax would like to take this film on for some witty banter.
Hopefully you read this before you watch… This movie has actual scenes of animals being killed! To let you know where I’m coming from, I own on DVD 3 of IGN’s list of the sickest movies ever made; Ichi The Killer, Murder Set-Pieces (the unrated director’s cut), and # 1 on the list – August Underground’s Mordum. So I’m not some sissy who can’t handle intense horror. But what was the point of having actual animals being hurt and killed in the film? I do realize that the great Cannibal Holocaust had some scenes like this also – however, that film was made in the 1970′s when people were a lot more ignorant and the people involved in that film now have admitted how much they regret those scenes. So I’ll keep this short – Cannibal Holocaust is still a classic (even though I grudgingly admit this because of the animal killings) that has a lot of merit in the world of horror films. Seed is a almost-could-have-been-something film that has those awful scenes that really just add insult to injury.
Another Uwe Boll…lol…what do you expect?
I agree that this happens to be the sickest movie i have seen in years. The thing with animals and the bay crying and then decomposing…in my book that just isnt right. That is true signs of a serial killer right there. It sickened me and made me think more about PETA and stuff..this was utterly disturbing.
It was actually pretty hard to get through. Not because of the violence and gore, that was the only reason I made it through. It was hard to get through because it dragged along. He just doesn’t know how to tell a story. If Uwe Boll is tired of the critics bashing his movies, then make a good movie. With how many he’s made you think he would’ve gotten lucky by now. You know, better yet just quit. Don’t get me wrong there’s worst movies, but he seems to get the studios to give him a pretty big budget to make his movies. For that I expect better.
Love it or hate, Boll will have you talking.
So much has been said about this film and its director and repeated failed attempts to borrow this film from my local video store only added to my anticipation. Despite initially confusing timelines, this film soon sped up to a redhot pace with bodies stacking up thick and fast.
The controversial animal cruelty footage is intense, and perhaps unnecessary, however this also sets the mood of nihilism that pervades throughout the film until the closing sequence. The police invasion of the farmhouse was somewhat akin to T-800′s police-station rampage in The Terminator, if not more horrific. Following suit was the brutal jailcell brawl prior to Seed’s execution, with several memorable scenes ensuing.
Sadly the film fell to pieces after this point. Apparently Seed could easily wander back into this maximum security prison and wander out just as freely to swim back to civilisation. The graphic ‘hammer scene’ is dripping with CGI and little explanation is given as to where, why or who the victim might be. The finale appears to be a thinly-veiled message from Boll himself: all hope is lost, and is somewhat reminiscent of a similar feeling in ‘Saw’.
Overall, this film is average owing to plot deterioration and the artificial nihilism generated by Boll.
This movie disgusted me, I watched it for about 5 minutes until it showed the baby in the cell. I turned the movie off. It got me so sick, I know it’s a movie but irregardless, that is sick that someone could even think about that. That movie was disgusting. I threw it in the trash. I didn’t even care that I wasted my money on it, it was sickening. And if I could, I’d rate it a 0 but I can’t.
This movie fucking sucks ass. It was so stupid and I could not stand the animal stuff at the beginning, fuck that. Uwe Boll you suck in so many more ways than one.
I’ve seen almost every horror movie ever release I recon but never have I seen something so horrific as the opening scenes in this sick movie. It shows suffering animals, blungened to death and a dog laying on a heap in absolute pain shown in it’s eyes, still alive, skun then showed other dogs being skun alive, crying so badly the attacker hit it across the face with the big knife blade and cut off it’s muzzle with the hit, then stood on it’s body then head while proceeding to skin the poor dog alive. Far out! I was so upset. I was disturbed more than the looters eating Mishka in Hannable Rising and that disturbed me for days. Never have I seen anything so sick and I don’t ever want to again. Don’t know where they got that film from, which was obviously real, but it should be illegal.
thought this movie was twisted in the begining, yes. alot of reviewers are saying this. but 2 minutes of that should not make this movie be bad. the begining was excessive, but i thought it was a somewhat good begining to a movie.
as for the rest of the movie: it was intense, full of gore, and brutallity by seed. this is one of my favorite killer horror movies by far.
One of the goriest kill scenes I have ever seen period and I don’t mean at the beginning with the animals. If animal cruelty bothers you then just FF for 2 minutes to see one of the goriest movies of all time. Seed does the job being a serial killer movie that rates up there with the best. You will be thinking about this movie for several days after watching. Not for the squeamish.
Skip the first 2 minutes and you have one of the goriest bloodiest movies of all time. The kill scene with the woman is the worst I have ever seen also. SEED
when i watch a horror movie i want to be entertained! i want to see dumb people do stupid things then get killed knowing that its all fake! that SHIT at the start wasnt fake that was real, thats NOT entertaining! thats SICK AS FUCK! why did we need to see that woman get her fucking head smashed in for 5 mins after she died? this movie sucked balls!
The first two minutes or so with the dog being tortured and beaten to death were real. Boll used this to generate buzz for the movie, I think it was horrible. What little respect I had for Boll is gone. Oh, and the movie is pretty bad.
There is good shock value and there is the intro to this movie, its like 2 girls 1 cup in that you ACTUALLY don’t want to see it.
I want to give this movie a 1 but it won’t let me go that low. Shitbuster to the max and Uwe Boll is a shitbuster director.

Go to the site above so you can end Uwe Boll’s pathetic career and his embarressment of directing and a embarressment to the german people.
it was a bit boring but the killing was good, even though the cg was bad.
Utterly, mind bogglingly shit. It drags on so long, at times you just think “fucking get on with it”. And that bit when he kills the woman with a hatchet was the worst use of CGI I’ve ever seen… you can even tell the hatchet has been superimposed. What was probably intended to be brutal and scary just ended up being funny and rubbish. Fuck uwe, Uwe Boll!
I saw this on the shelf next to that Dimension Extreme film called ‘Eden Lake,’ and that one was actually cheaper than this one, but I got ‘Seed’ because it looked tempting with that red girl in the electric chair on the cover. Well oh boy, she was quite effective because I got the movie, but if I could time travel I’d cut off my legs to pay for the trip because this was one of the most boring things in the history of words. Whata’ regret Your eyes won’t believe the fun time you’ll have feasting upon super glue for wood. It’s so damn slow! The animal scene was just downright outrageous and unnescisary, I mean when it comes to shock factor I’m game but lord, that’s real animal footage of them being skinned while barking and breathing?! Sick, I mean what for? If you want people to see your film don’t put some torture stuff, make your movie good! This is a waste of viewing, I’ll always regret this in the history of movie buying, and another thing, the girl in the red who is so tempting of the cover and backside..dosen’t appear once. Propaganda is key I guess.
wtf was Uwe Boll thinking!
I actually really enjoyed this movie, i can never watch the opening sequence ever again, almost cried when saw the animals, but like some1 else on here said, skip the openin credits and i think it was one heck of a slasher film. a really dark, sadistic and very wrong feeling slasher film, but still one heck of a slasher flick. Take it just as that, a film all about the slashing. focus on that and its pretty fukin good.
I thought this was a great film! A dark, violent original horror film, one of the best films i’ve seen!
Yes, it’s a Uwe Boll movie. But please, give me a chance to express my 8/10 rating. Seed is one of the most disturbing movies I have ever seen. The plot is terribe, I admit. Yes, there is one or two mistakes, but this a gory, fun fest horror movie. Uwe Boll has finally cracked it. He has created a stunning, low – budget horror flick, that will leave you scared and distubed. From the horrible animal torture scene at the begining, up to the most distubing 5 minute scene I have ever seen in a movie. The “head and hammer” scene. The acting is ok, nothing flash. The gore is perfect, and the scares are all there. The special effects are amazing, and the ending just so disturbing, honestly, you’ll never get it out of your head!
Overall, a gore fest of a horror movie. Disturbing, scary and damn right brilliant! A must watch for any gore and horror lover for sure!
8/10
This is an abysmal film. From what is a pretty respectable premise for a plot, director Uwe Boll manages to make this an extremely boring and lacklustre yawn fest. I didnt care about any of the characters. Seed himself is a joke. With a distinct lack of any suspense and tension. Boll resorts to try and shock. Animal torture and baby killing. Rather than shock me, I just found it quite sad. I love horror/gore porn films. But this is just a joke. PLEASE AVIOD AT ALL COSTS!
OK so the animal footage is actual PETA stuff. Disturbing, yes, but true. I really don’t understand why it’s in there other than shock value. First time I watched this, had to turn it off after the whole baby starving thing(have babies so really disturbed me). Watched the rest the next day and was disappointed. With that stuff right at the beginning, thought the rest of the movie would be freaky. But no. Was actually quite boring. On the other hand, nothing really has really bothered me as much as that baby thing so I guess that’s a good thing?…Don’t know…haha
bad acting bad story but great gore done
Uwe Boll is a hated director by most, but I believe that this film gets such a bad reputation because people are blinded by their hate for him, most people take the animal cruelty approach to try to explain why the hate the film but somehow Cannibal Holocaust is one of the most hyped horror films of all time. The movie has a good plot, with some solid acting and a fairly cool killer. The death scenes are good and overall the film stays at a great pace.
There was some good death/gore within the movie. The actual story was kind of boring itself.
Watched it on Netflix with their Watch Instantly so I can’t complain. I’m not sure why people say they were disturbed at all by this movie though. Although I really hate animal cruelty and that is a tough watch…it’s unfortunately true and I think he wanted to show that if people can be that cruel to animals than what is stopping them from being that cruel to people. Not a very subtle analogy to be sure, but this is Uwe Boll. As far the baby scenes..the first one cuts away and is obviously a dream sequence and the second one just as obviously cuts away and then shows some practical special effects. Horrible in it’s premise, but now very disturbing to watch. Of course if you are used to watching the usual Hollywood machine PG films I guess this would effect you, but the pure horrorist is not going to get their panties in a bunch. Overall it’s an improvement for Boll (which is not saying much), but an average direct to DVD flik. If you really want to watch something powerful…check out “Rampage”….I still have a hard time believing Uwe Boll actually made that movie…it rocks. Long story long…a few good kill scenes, but nothing original here…next please.
This was really bad. I wanted to like it because Uwe Boll sux ass and it would be nice for him to make a movie that was watchable for once. The one scene that ive heard so much about with the hammer and the the ladys head looked so cheesed out i started laughing. Just another bad attempt from a bad director. I would give it a negative skull if i could! And the cover of the dvd has nothing at all to do with this pile of a movie.
This movie wasn’t good. I also don’t fancy animal cruelty one friggin bit. I do get what he’s trying to say with it, but still, why show it? If he felt it was necessary, I really wish he would have had some sort of disclaimer! The opening sequence was so terrible, I can still picture those poor dogs! If I wanted to see stuff like that, I would have found it online somewhere.
By the way, He was supposed to donate 2% of the profits he made from this movie to PETA, I wonder how much they actually got?
I know this is an Uwe Boll movie, and I like his movie, and I love this movie. Seed was pretty disturbing, and scary. Seed was actually an excellent horror movie to watch.
After the horrible “House Of The Dead”, I dared to watch another Uwe Boll film, his 2007 torture-porn slasher about the maniac killer ‘Seed’ who killed 666 people in 6 years (sic!).
It’s not as bad as HOTD, but still nothing I’d recommend to other horror fellows.
What I enjoyed:
~ the b/w stop-motion decay/decomposition scenes
~ the look of ‘Seed’
~ all the kills / gore scenes (especially the infamous unintentionally funny 5-minute-scene of Seed hammering a woman’s head to pulp, as well as the neat climax)
~ a few nice set-pieces and some ok camera work
What I disenjoyed:
~ the lousy script, largely consisting of countless tedious and tiresome scenes
~ every single character is completely shallow and uninteresting
~ the acting just sucks, especially because of the annoying performances of the lame Will Sanderson and the completely untalented Ralf Möller
~ the senseless opening with the real-life-footage of tortured animals and the ridiculous attempt to create some kind of message about how bad humans can be *yawn*
~ huge amounts of laughable and/or stupid dialogue lines
(f.e. “I had a dream that there was this alligator chasing me around the house.” – “Did he catch you?” – “No. I woke up.” – “Good.” etc.)
~ many badly lighted, badly edited, badly directed scenes
Recommended ONLY to people who enjoy garbage like “Train” or “Hostel 2″,
and people who have never seen a Boll film before
The movie Seed, written, directed and produced by Uwe Boll, was an eye opener.
I thought the new generation of horror was becoming a pit of PG-13 rated garbage, not worthy of the horror titles. This movie has restored my faith in the horror industry.
Written, directed and produced by Uwe Boll, I will be looking for more of his work with high hopes and child-like anticipation.
Seed, Whoa.
Those are the words I will use to describe how I felt after I watched this film.
I can honestly say that from the first sequence to the last scene, I was on edge.
For true horror fans, this is a must-see. It’s a film that will burrow under your skin, crawl around and lay the grounds for mental trauma worth hundreds of dollars in psychiatrists bills a few years down the road.
It has everything; psychological torture, gore, and a silent serial killer who has no remorse and genuinely seems to enjoy his line of work.
I jumped out of my seat, and not because some stupid cat jumped out with soundtrack blaring, but because I couldn’t believe what I was seeing happen on screen. No tired old tricks or gimmicks, my jaw was on the floor throughout the film and I can honestly say that my heart stopped for a moments at a time.
Tacky horror, this is not. It is unforgiving; a legitamate assault on your moral compass. You will not find any sort of comfort from this film because comedic relief was definitely not on the creator’s docket.
True horror, the way it should be.
Not for the faint at heart, or squeamish bellies. The content is unrelenting, disturbing and brutal, but very realistic. Realism and the threat of events depicted in Seed are what makes this film a winner.
I don’t want to give anything away, you want plot summaries and spoilers, go to imdb.com and research it yourself. But this horror movie junkie says it’s going in the “I’ll definitely watch that again” pile.
Sweet Dreams, Horror Junkies.
xo
This was a really bad movie. The cinematography was terrible, and the story was virtually non-existent. Don’t bother.
The one sheet i saw (not the one above) immediately made me want to this film. This film had a great look and feel to it. This is just me and i will take full judgments from you interweb hounds but i enjoyed it.
Yes they do have scenes at the beginning of animals being killed and yes it is real. But that shouldnt bother you and if anything set the tone for the film and the ominous feel of the film as a whole ( Im a fucked up for not being phased by the animals O.o)
Anyway it did kind of lack and drag in a few parts but i thought the scenes of pitch black with only the lights of their torches and the lights of the police was a very well done scene. The scenes of torture and decay of his victims was pretty interesting.
This isn’t for everyone and if your mind is sensitive or weak then i wouldn’t watch it if i were you. I mainly rate it on Feeling environment and overall feel of the film. And i enjoyed all those aspects.
Sidenote: I laugh in the face of the user Coldblood!!!!! Claiming (which im sure is true) that he has seen these ultimately fucked up and crazy films and complaining about this one. Foolish and silly if you ask me. I dont personally think I would compare this film to those ones (yes i have seen them) because those ones reach a level far beyond this (again in my own opinion)but I dont know i suppose I dont see the world like you do. Which is ok my friend.
