This is one of the best J-Horror and I’m not a fan of the manga.

While I did really like this movie, I just feel the need to say it…. If you were just watching the Death Note movie and that was your first experience with Death Note whatsoever… Then Death Note was a totally awesome movie, in my opinion… But if you have read the manga or seen the anime [both of which are NOT mentioned in this website's overview] then you would be thinking the same thing I thought… “Wow, they really messed this up…” Yes, tis what I thought… The people they picked for this movie, and also the effects, those were actually pretty decent [though it still bothers me that Misa Misa has black hair in the movie, when in the anime and manga, she clearly had light blonde hair... rrr]… Pretty much, as a movie, it was good.
As an anime remake it was pretty much terrible.

If you’re a fan of the manga, or anime then you won’t be disappointed by the live-action version. If you’ve never heard of it, then this is a great place to start. This is a one-of-a-kind supernaturally charged cat & mouse story, it really is that good. Note this is only the first part, but the sequel is already available.

i wouldn’t call this a horror movie at all, but i loved the manga. the movie was only minorly disappointing. very poor special effects, but i love it anyway. only in japanese though. dub overs are the bane of all society.

Definetely one of the best J-Horror movies of all-time. After countless “long haired ghost-girl” movies, “Death Note” proofs that J-Horror have much more to offer. The story is really interresting, suspenseful and makes you think as a viewer. If you had the same power “Light” got with the Death Note, wouldn’t you do the same thing he did? That’s an interresting question and makes the movie smarter, then it really is.
I enjoyed it very much. The story was just awesome imo and all the actor performanes were very good. I was really impressed by the actor of “L”. That was an incredible performance. Director Shusuke Kaneko proofs that he can not just direct Giant Monster movies (“Gamera” trilogy), but also horror movies. So if you like J-Horror or you are just looking for a unique and great horror movie, “Death Note” is the right movie for you.
At least, I enjoyed the ride!!

One of the best Japenese films I’ve ever seen! The idea is so original and unique and the film itself is so clever and different, I’ve never seen anything like it! The twists and turns keep on coming throughout you must see this!

although i do prefer the manga and the anime the film is brilliant! its as close to the original as it can get and the dude that plays L is the perfect actor.

I came across this completely by accident, and I’m rather glad I did. It’s fun, and totally enjoyable.
