Best film of the fest.
This movie was pretty good with what they had to work with. Definitely worth watching, wish the ending would have been different.
It’s alright. Kindof cool that they used real dead bodies.
I did enjoy this movie. I watched alone in hose with the lights off and it was creepy. Special effects are good. The movie was really good 80% of the way through. The ending was kinda week. It seemed like they spent a long time on the building up of the story and didn’t feel like spending quite as much time on the ending. But I would recommend it.
Are you people fucking HIGH? No wonder horror films suck nowadays. It’s morons like you that validate this trash.
This movie was fucking filth.
Although I respect the film for trying to use simplistic scares and the power of suggestion, the film lacks anything truly that interesting, including characters or the simplistic plot, if you want to watch a better movie along the lines of this, try Pathology.
There are a few of unrealistic scenes/occurrences -but what horror movie doesn’t- that may make you roll your eyes. Otherwise a very well made, dark and creepy movie.
It’s a scary world in the realm of direct-to-DVD horror. Not because the films themselves are scary–few of them are–but because you never know what indie films are going to be good and which aren’t. The After Dark Horrorfest tries to select the best of the bunch and help the viewers out, but, sadly, even those are rarely anything special. When I look at Unrest in that pitiful scene, it’s not really that bad. It’s certainly better than a lot of indie horror films I’ve seen. On the other hand, however, if I look at Unrest against the big names–not saying big names are better than indie; they often aren’t–it truly earns the score I low give it.
I’ve always wondered something about indie horror films. Supposedly, they’re the ones that are the risky decisions, often fueled by directors who say they hate Hollywood and its clichés. Sounds great coming from their mouths. But then you watch their movies and they’re rarely more original than billion-dollar busters. Some people defend indie movies by saying that I, as a reviewer, should be easy because they didn’t have a big budget. But that’s what I never understood. If they don’t have a big budget, why don’t they ever hide it with a truly original plot like their director’s promise? It’s paradoxical. It’s the norm. And it’s exactly why Unrest sucks.
It’s hard not to notice how good the actual directing in Unrest is for an indie film. It’s even somewhat stylish. That lured me in from the opening, and held my attention until the near-ending when the plot started getting ridicules. The cast worked fairly well for the type of story this is. They’re average collage kids, and they fit the roles and play their parts as well as any real collage kids would. Probably because they are. The use of real bodies, though a fun fact, really bears nothing on the overall experience. They look exactly like fake bodies would. Special effects are so advanced, I can’t tell the difference either way. The gore was average at best.
So, with decent technical details, the main reason this film fails is because of the plot. At first it seemed to be taking old horror clichés and bringing them into new, modern light thus making them less cheesy. That’s okay with me, I guess. I also would like to give credit to the lack of over-the-top cheesy scare scenes. But as the plot furthered to the end, it became just like all the other cheesy supernatural horror movies ever made, and completely left me frowning. I was having a fun time until I realized just how painfully unoriginal the overall vision was. By the end, it’s hard not to realize the entire movie lacks any creativity whatsoever. Though it’s not as pump-filled with cheese as other supernatural horror movies–Mirrors, for example–Unrest still laugh-worthy in the end.
Overall, I’m an unimpressed horror fan. I expected a fun movie with a bit of creativity, and Unrest couldn’t even deliver that. I wish indie directors, like politicians, would follow their own promises. But they don’t. As others have said, for a similar movie that is infinity better and more original, check out Pathology. And I think it’s now safe to assume that indie horror has officially switched places with Hollywood as being the biggest source of cliché films out there. Saddening.
well………it was disgusting….but thats about all…it wasn’t scary…it wasn’t even funny….I guess if you want to see some cadaver diving then I recomend this movie…or become an underwater mortician.
Shitbuster.
whoever gave this movie over a 2 is out of their mind, all around bad,and there was even a fish in the furmeldihyde tank when the charecter dove in…ha! i wouldnt die for any of these movies only one a tear is even worth a glance.
One of the best movies out of the fest along with gravedancers, It had great pace to it and there was not a moment that I was bored waiting for the movie to end. There was some good blood splatter and body parts scrambled around, with a beautiful piece of eye candy in Corri English who kept the story moving with her talent. It was a different film compared to the remake generation and I for one liked this horror film about Gross anatomy!
Poor Horror Film. Ive learned in recent years that usually the indy horror movies are better then the grabage released today. But this one is a let down. The plot barely makes sense. And the woman in the led role didnt show no T n a. Shes too hott and it would have seriously made me bump the score up to a 5.
the whole movie I wanted to see the main actress naked and it never happened, it was watchable but boring, but it would have gotton an extra star from everyone including myself i think, if that sexy chick got naked
It was interesting that the ghost was never seen and that it had a perspective like you were there. But it was kind of weak at some points and it needed more “umph”
awsome
not very good at all…possibly one of the top five worst horror films i have ever seen!
Um… what the crap? How do you come up with such a cool idea and then just focus on sexy aspiring morticians? Don’t get me wrong, it’s decent throughout but the abrupt/convenient resolution was retarded. Really? That’s all it took? Almost as bad as Drag Me To Hell’s cop out ending.
There’s some good gore though and a few scenes that will undoubtedly make some viewers squeamish. Overall, a mediocre mixed bag of nuts.
Terrible ending with absolutely no real explanation for the plot. Not the worst movie ever, but it’s still not worth a rental. I only watched it because it’s free on Fearnet On Demand until Sept. 1.
I watched this movie because the cover intrigued me, and yes it was free OnDemand so I wanted to kill some time on a boring sunday afternoon. Unrest is one of those movies where everything seems good but always turns out to be boring and unrealistic. The plot makes a bit of sense but you never really find out what the purpose is. It’s not very scary either, B rated gore and death scenes that they don’t even show you! All you hear is some tribal drums and then a scream as everything fades to black. The idea of the movie is better than a lot of the movies at this season’s fest, but it was still a bore because there was no actual climactic build up to the kills which means I didn’t even jump, the only part that made me cringe (if only for a moment) was when the main guy that’s follwing the girl around in all this decides to submerge himself under the vile, apparently freezing water where all the dead, decomposing bodies are stored. All in all though, it might be worth someone’s time, but for me, it’ll always be the cover that remains the only good thing about this movie.
I only make lists of “Bests” but if I had a list of “Worsts”, UNREST would somewhere way up there in the worst horror movies of the decade. The After Dark horror fest should be sued, shut down, and burned down.
I began watching this movie and realized I’d seen it on the SciFi channel or somewhere similar.
This is kind of a slow burn type of horror film. I would say it is more of a psychological-type horror film.
The guy that made this movie, I understand it was his first, is someone to watch out for. A deliberately paced movie that is eerie and unsettling.
Gross Anatomy class doesn’t look to be much fun and one can feel the dread felt by Alison. Carving up a cadaver brings up an intense spiritual dilemma for her, causing her to question her agnosticism/atheism. It seems the cadaver she has been assigned to is possessed and folks who touch it start dying off.
I dug it.
It wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t great; I don’t see how it made it on Horrorfest. There was nothing particularly enticing about the story or film itself for me. It was just mediocre all around.
So I was under the gross misunderstanding that this film is about ghosts.. or zombies… but NooOoOo. This film isn’t scary, it feels like a scary premise with “Real Corpses” and made it into a mystery that could have been on lifetime.
Me and my boyfriend watched just now haha. Was okey all made sense. One of these films you had to watch all the way through. Well i thought anyways. Was NOT the worst and wasnt the best but was fine
…
While the plentiful(and authentic) gore adds some punch and despite some hair raising scenes; Unrest is ultimately dull and disappointing. It really could have been a much better film; the pacing is so painful and the characters so bland that by the climax you really don’t care anymore.
THIS MOVIE SHOULD BE PUT TO REST…because it’s as limp as a dead fish! I don’t care if they happened to use a real corpse somewhere in the background of this movie. You can’t even tell, they don’t focus on it, and it’s certainly not the body they keep zooming in on during the whole movie. The female lead looks like a cheap Brittney Spears, she’s a horrible actress, and nothing about this movie explains any of the mystery behind the story. And the end….oh, the end. Just terrible. Absolutely terrible. Nothing was even scary or disturbing at all.
To put it simply: this movie sucks. Next!!!!
Your average and averagely lame ‘After Dark Horrorfest’ flick. Starts out quite tense and scary in the first third but thereafter it gets unplausible, dull and tedious (except for one short, terrifying scene in the middle). The acting is largely quite good (Corri English, Derrick O’Connor…) and I totally love the powerful and quite catchy soundtrack. Sadly the script is badly written and paced; the plot is one helluva stupid and extremely farfetched mess, full of illogical and pointless plot holes, and the ending is just disappointing.
It was ok, but I didn’t like it that much the best part of the movie was when it was over when it hit the credit’s it came on sci-fy on cable. Don’t waste time if your forced to watched it then sucks for you.
Way too many plot holes for a viewer to get involved with the story, and no scares or chills–not even a killer, really (at least one that is ever seen). Slow paced, no on-screen kills, and a silly relationship between the female lead and the Matthew Perry wannbe. The whole “swimming in formaldehyde” thing and the Temple of Doom tribal chanting score are patience testers as well. Just too many problems here—being too much of a stretch, too much of a bore, and a garbage ending makes Unrest fairly unenjoyable–pass.
meh
BORING. Nothing interesting happens, all this movie is about is some med school student whining about how something is wrong with her cadaver and then some guy joins her, but he is probably just sticking around for butt because we all know its not for her award winning personality. DON’T WATCH THIS.
