I thought this was a great movie. The story was fleshed out pretty well and couldn’t help but feel bad for what the brother went through. 8 out of 10 from me

‘Dead Man’s Shoes’ is an amazing psychological thriller that I highly recommend to everyone. The movie is hard-hitting, fleshed out, and sometimes hard to watch.
In essence, it’s a tale of revenge that spins out of control. A group of young, drug-addicted hooligans perform acts of torture on a retarded boy who ‘befriends’ them. This part of the story is told through flashbacks, and the viewer doesn’t know what the big deal is until the end of the film (through the director’s brilliant use of plot manipulation). The retarded boy’s enraged brother comes back from the war and seeks revenge on each of those who participated in his brother’s torture. The acting is brilliant and terrifying, the locations are some of the best I’ve seen in any film, and the moral of the story is very heavy and sobering.
My only quips were some continuation issues, since a couple extra characters are introduced who have very minimal relation to the plot. It just ended up confusing me (unless I’m missing some brilliant philosophical treatise which the director decided to stuff into the movie).
Thrillers don’t get much better than this, and since the characters are so realistic, it may make you think more about the seemingly small decisions that you make in your daily life – and the possible consequences of those decisions.

A cool revenge movie, although it is difficult to understand most of the time because of their accents.

It might be easy to get a bit distracted at the beginning of this movie because of some hard accents and not quite knowing what is going on yet—-read the movie synopsis/stick with it because this turns into a very good movie–much better than I thought it would be. A different and engrossing revenge flick.

This was the first Shane Meadows film i saw and it was fantastic. The druggies get scared by the ‘Elephant guy’ (AKA. Richard) and get slaughtered one by one. The ending is great seeming through most the film you don’t know why he is killing the people. This is Shane Meadows best film. EVER!!!

A brilliant psychological drama with a somewhat different spin on the revenge flick. This film has an emotionally devasting climax, that on first viewing, you won’t see coming. It really does hit hard and will leave you feeling wrecked. Paddy Constantines performance is understated and played to perfection. You are unsure of his actions and think he’s being a tad harsh but by the time everything comes together it all makes sense. Shane Meadows does a great job of leading the audience up the garden path and then throwing a massive curveball which will haunt you for days.
The dreary locations and the black and white flashbacks give this film an extra edge to it’s sombre tone. Definitely not for everyone but if you like revenge tales then this will more than satisfy. Highly recommended.

A decent movie, but not at all horror… It’s more of a revenge drama. The ‘masked’ killer is never seen killing anyone and is known from the beginning; the killer kills without the mask. Good story line but I cannot stress enough that the poster is VERY misleading. NOT HORROR

Dead Man’s Shoes was extremely powerful and moving. The revenge sequences were extremely done right. All in All, Dead Man’s Shoes was a powerful revenge movie.

A moving and surprisingly subtle film about the love of one brother for his sibling who has an intellectual disability. As psychologically brutal as the film is, the compelling portrayal of a former paratrooper exacting revenge for the treatment of his brother has a hauntingly tender element to it. Paddy Considine is remarkable as the protagonist whilst Shane Meadows’ script is refreshingly restrained and intelligent.

This blew me away, the directing, the acting, the storyline was all top notch and beyond. I sunk into the film it grabbed me emotionally and didn’t let go until the very last frame. You will want to see them all get their justice and the final reveal will shock you. This is just amazing, Shane Meadows is a director to look out for with this and “This Is England.” This is a powerful, unforgettable film that I think got itself lost in the midst of big american movies. Please find it, watch it, love it. I would’ve loved to have seen the gas mask killer in a chase scene or something but to be honest this film didn’t need it.

i didn’t like this movie at all. very predictable, all the same type of murder scenes that i have watched before. the “big reveal” at the end isn’t even important to the film. the ONLY scene that i liked was when the good guy and the bad guy comfront eachother on the street and the lead doesn’t fuck around about why he is there and why he is so pissed off. one good moment is not worth a whole movie. oh yah, the i could of swore that the lead looks like chuck norris.

A bleak, brutally effective revenge thriller that in the end just isn’t has satisfying has it could have been. While its rather powerful at times it’s also a bit of a letdown.

I’m a little shocked at how well the movie is praised, I felt it was predictable, and a little lacking.

I gotta say that this one is over-rated. I really didn’t like it at all and I wouldn’t watch it again.

I suggest a pass on this one.

Shane Meadows is a great directed, the story is not that fresh and while Paddie Considine is excellent the rest of the cast is sub-par. If this had been one of Shane’s first films I think the perfection comments would be warranted, now the only thing that I will say in its defense is that it is an excellent film if viewed in the manner it is meant to be and it is a really dark comedy, it is not a straight out of the gate revenge thriller and it is in that subtle blending of extremely morose humor that the film shines and if you know the British indie circle Shane did this on a budget that was next to nothing which is probably why it stands the way it does, but the atmosphere is lacking and the other characters are about as likeable as a man relieving himself in your salad as you are eating it.

When you watch a revenge film, in general, you are presented to a very brutal beginning which makes you want to see those people suffer for what they’ve done. And, for me, this is everything in this kind of film: you want to see them suffering the same or more than the victim in the beginning.
Dead Man’s Shoes does not start with the suffering, it starts with the revenge. I felt like: “Yeah, this guy is going for some revenge for his brother and he must have his reasons for that”, but I never really wanted to see the other guys suffering or even dying, just because I did not have any reason to.
Then, at the end, they show you some flashes from the past, and, even so, you cannot quite see the suffering of the guy’s brother.
I just could not connect to the plot and I did not feel like supporting the main character. It is just difficult when the film itself do not give you reasons for that.

Official Score: 5 / 5
