Jesus… what a piece of crap. There was just no reason for this movie to come out and it really is a just an old gangster that should get his shine box.
I almost want to say that the gore is good but there’s just way to much CGI gore. Its to the point that it gets annoying.
Another thing is why is Leatherface such a pussy?
Hot chicks save this movie from being a complete waste of time and thats about it. I hope these two girls get into better movies in the future like 2 girls 1 cup. At least then I won’t have to pay to see shit.
I love Alexandra Daddario but I haven’t felt insulted by a movie in a long time.
Sorry for such a poorly writen rant but I’m almost in rage mode by this utter shit smear.
CommentThis movie pays homage to the original and previous entries quite well i must say. The opening sequence are just flashbacks of clips from the original. It was great seeing them in 3D, if only for brief flashes.
They introduce the new movie literally seconds after the original left off. You get to see what happens to the sawyer family.
Skip ahead 20 years or so, and thats when the movie really begins. I view it more f an homage than a new film, hence only 4 skulls. I wont give any spoilers away, but things turn around. And thats when people may turn against this movie. But if you look at all the perspectives and angles this movie was trying to portray, you can see all the elements from the previous original and other entries. Def a must-see if you like the origibal or the recent remakes.
I also would like to note that hopefully by showing clips from the original, hopefully this will spurk the curiousity of this new generation and they will check out the original classic.
It’s gonna be really hard for any of the new generation to enjoy this movie. Despite how awesome of a sequel it was and how fun the film was, they will hate it. But I’m cool with that. That means the DVD will be mad cheap when it’s released.
Bull. I’m a huge fan of old-school horror, I hated the TCM remakes, and I still hated this unimaginative and unsatisfying pile of crap. It’s hard for fan of quality films to enjoy this movie, plain and simple.
i wanted to see this but with my husbands weird shifty schedule i never got the chance
Comment
I went to see this with no expectations, and ended up coming out of the theater loving it! I had a blast with this movie. I think its the best entry in the series since the original. The backstory, and the ending, was incredible. I personally thought it was great. Of course there was some faults and all that, but i got over that, and I think it was the best portrayal of leatherface since gunner hansen.
I’m not going to spoil anything, but I really had a good time and thats all that matters. Not the best movie ever, but its a great addition to the leatherface legacy. Nothing can be as bad as the next generation.
I truly can’t believe that I just read reviews of people that LIKED this movie. I am as die hard a fan of the ’74 movie as anyone, and it’s absolutely insulting that they are passing this off as a being of the same tone as the original. Are you kidding me?!?! Why… WHY must directors/studio put AWFUL cheesy one-liners in horror films? And why do we have to have gorgeous people in these roles? And why must we have the biggest current hip-hop jams bumping every 6 minutes? F**k this way of thinking. Im so sick of it.
The opening was pretty cool. definitely showed respect for the original. The cameos were great, even though NO ONE in the theater I was in had any idea who the legends were. But whatever. But after the initial respect, it goes right out the window. There were some cool nods throughout the film, but my god the oneliners!!! “Welcome to Texas motherf**ker!” was terrible, but nothing… I mean NOTHING could trump “Do you thing Cuz” as Heather throws Leatherface his saw. Bill Mosely & John Lussenhop were in the theater with me, as was Tyler Mane (Michael Myers) and I was actually kinda embarrassed for them all. Anyways… whatever. I wanted to love this movie. But I don’t.
Awesome Review!
“Do your thing cuz!” What were they thinking when they wrote that man?!!!
I really don’t know dude. But when she said it I really wanted to walk up to the director in the theater and say “F**k you man.” Because if that single line was not in the movie, never mind “Welcome to texas…” I feel like my opinion would be different. I still wouldn’t LOVE the movie but I wouldn’t feel insulted.
First and foremost, I knew this movie would be terrible going into it, but I went along anyway because I didn’t feel like going to another nightclub for the 3rd night in a row. And it’s TEXAS CHAINSAW for Christ sakes!
How did I know it would be terrible you ask? Well, because it was over hyped, it’s selling point was that it was in “3D”, and it was directed by some schmuck who openly admitted to not knowing the first thing about horror movies. Still, I had no idea that it would be THIS Terrible!!
I have to say, I loved everything about the last two Texas Chainsaws that were released, but director John Lussenhop and Lionsgate films totally destroyed everything I ever loved about the franchise with this epic disaster.
This movie was so sugar coated and watered down I felt as if I needed to take an emergency trip to the dentist after swallowing it down for 2 hours straight.
I’ll give it this, the opening scene was pretty cool. It had some flashbacks from the original film, rednecks shooting at each other, a house being torched to the ground, and a mother being kicked in the face after having her baby ripped from her arms. After that though, the rest of the film goes down in flames along with the Sawyer house.
The casting was absolutely dreadful. It was literally as if they had a bunch of pretty faces on a dartboard and threw darts at the names to decide who got the role. Either that, or they picked them based on blowjob skills. They even hired Trey Songs to be in this movie. REALLY? Trey Fucking Songs?! It seems as if this director gets a hard on for hip-hop stars because his two prior movies “Lockdown” & “Takers” featured Master P, T.I., and even Chris Brown!
I had high hopes for Trey Songs to be brutally slaughtered by Leatherface but, Spoiler Alert: he dies in a fucking car crash and never even sees the end of a chainsaw! Right then and there I wanted my money back.
On top of the bad acting, the dialogue and insanely stupid characters they created to actually say the lines was even more laughable. Granted, I did crack up anytime any of them spoke, but not because it was funny, but because picturing a major motion picture studio actually hiring such horrible writers is hilarious to me.
I could go on and on about how bad the acting was, but hey, who really goes to see Texas Chainsaw Massacre to see an Oscar winning performance? No ONE! We go to see blood and guts and hopefully leave the theater scared. Maybe even have a nightmare or two when we go to sleep at night. Does that happen here? Of course NOT!
All the brutality and balls to the wall gore that set the tone of the last two films is now replaced by a barrage of cheap scares that reminds me more of being at some haunted house with my Mom rather than at a horror movie.
The kills were all extremely weak, however they do show the dorkiest kid in the movie getting completely chopped in half, so that was somewhat redeemable. What wasn’t redeemable to me is how much of a pansy-ass they made Leatherface out to be, he actually almost crys as two redneck cops whip him with chains. REALLY BRO??
I won’t go into detail on the end or the completely lame twist they decide to throw in there in order to set up squeals, but just know that the best part of the ending is when the credits roll and you can finally leave the theater.
All in all, I gave it a 1 skull rating because it had me cracking up with my friends the entire time on just how bad it was. The 3D effects were sort of fun too. As far as horror movies go, I felt as if it’s an embarrassment to the genre and a slap in the face to the time honored Texas Chainsaw franchise.
I’ve been watching Texas Chainsaw Massacre since I was 7 years old. My favorite film is Part 2 from 1986. With the exception of The Next Generation I’ve loved every Chainsaw film that’s been released. This film is no exception. The idea was to make a sequel that would finish the story that the first one had written. Well they did it and it was great. Like the George Romero Living Dead series this film shares an underlying message aside from all of the gore and killing and if you can’t figure that out you may not like the movie. It’s not hard to figure out though so if you’re not to bright don’t waste your money. If this movie was bad at all it’s strictly a personal problem.
Dan Yeager Played a perfect Leatherface, a monster with a slow mind. A mindless killer with the temper of an 8 year old. There was nothing but raw emotion from Dan as he stalked his prey with anger and becoming very uneasy and nervous when making a discovery that prompted he’d made a mistake. In this movie Leatherface was Real. I was also pleased with the leading Actress, she gave a great performance illuminating life into this girl in her early to mid 20′s trying to find out where she fits in the world. One thing I liked was the fact that she carried traits and habits of the Sawyers when it came to career choice and extra curricular activities in the early moments of the film. As I said before the story was great, everything relative was tied together nicely, the characters were given extraordinary visions of life
I know most people will not like this movie and that’s cool because it wasn’t made for you. It was made for Die hard fans like myself and many other of the Chainsaw Disciples out there. You guys looking for horror movie just won’t get it. it was a fun, entertaining sequel and I look forward to more films.
I’m sorry I forgot one thing. I walked into the movie wanting to slit my wrists because of Tree Sounds or whatever his name is but you know what he had the best acting in the film. When I saw his lifeless body, bloody, head almost severed it was beautiful, a great job on his part. Then he jumped over the moon when they came back to his head in a bucket. Best acting ever. Great Jo Tree!
EXACLY! Well said! That was the point I was trying to make in my review, there are underlying themes going on in this movie that one may not notice at first. It’s pretty much like the other movies, except they changed it up a little bit. I admit, the one-liners were cheesy as hell. But that added the campiness to the film. And when they are said, they are funny, even if stupid. Leatherface is not some Jason or Michael, he was always supposed to be more realistic. Leatherface is an idiot. He is a slow, confused, raging redneck that honestly doesn’t know any better. His brutality comes across to protect his family. One can enjoy this movie if they go into it looking for the underlying tones, and seeing the connections subtly made to the other entries. forget the script, forget the acting. This is a great movie. Although the other two remakes actually had me scared, this one I enjoyed better overall.
Nikki’s one liner we could’ve done without for sure lol Part of the blame needs to go to Michael Bay. I loved the remake and the prequel but it’s because of his Leatherface that people believe this one is wrong. I also think it’s funny that everyone who is complaining are complaining about the wrong things. All I hear about is how Heather’s age isn’t right and the CGI was horrible but things like Drayton being the father instead of being the brother goes unheard. No one knows the story anymore it’s just another horror movie to them. This one had a great story and an awesome underlying theme. Nothing about Chainsaw scares me now, I strictly watch them to indulge in the interesting story and universe that is the Sawyers or the Hewitts. I’ve met some good people through this movie including Dan Yeager and John Dugan, Chainsaw’s always been good to me and I will always be for it. You’d have to screw up BIG time to get me to turn down a TCM flick. Like Robert Jacks in TCM:TNG, that did it for me lol
This is what a horror movie sequel should be. There was a seamless transition from the end of the original movie and it was better than the original sequel. It wasn’t just a bunch of gore, but it was definitely gory enough for Leatherface standards. The storyline was unique and well planned out. The 3D effects were great, especially during the opening when it replayed the end of the original. My only complaints would be that some CGI was not necessary and ruined parts of the film such as the meat grinder scene. The characters were good. Most of them were not very important anyway since they were killed off before the first half of the film and any flaws they had didn’t bother me. The facts that Trey Songs was a character and the choice of music played did not affect the integrity of the film. We’re not in the 70′s anymore, expect kids to party a little different. The lead, Alexandra Daddario, was amazing. Overall this film was more than better than I expected. Regardless of any reviews you read, you should definitely experience this film in theater while it lasts.
Well said, very good review
It was nice to see Leatherface back on screen again. Loved the gore, the cameos, and flashbacks. I wish there could’ve been more, but I’m sure there’ll be another one. Cool bonus scene at the end.
The sum of it all:
This film definitely won’t live up the 1974 original, but who expected it to? Texas Chainsaw is fast paced, full of surprises, all while simultaneously infusing the original film in the midst of it all.
Spoilers to follow:
Anyone who isn’t a hardcore fan of the franchise won’t find this movie to make much sense, while there are many plot holes (i.e Heather’s age), it’s the evidence of the original film that will throw the average movie goer off. I just got done sitting in the theater and I could tell everyone, besides for the guy with the 1974 TCM shirt on, had no idea what the year 1974 had to do with the film. I guess audiences need a “present day” title card to pick things up. I even had to explain to my clan some of the stuff that was going on.
As for the 3D, while there are occasional “pop outs”, it’s extremely easy on the eyes and like Daddario (who plays Heather) said in an interview, it only adds depth to the film. The original 1974 conversion to 3D was also pleasant. I, who wasn’t alive to see that flick on the silver screen, loved every second of it. As for the pop outs that I mentioned, when they happen, you will know. They’re not small by any means. SPOILER: A chainsaw will literally be coming straight at you for about 10 seconds.
The twist in the third act was also enjoyable, the film wasn’t reliant on gore and violence to scare people. I’m not sure that it was “scary” at all, while there were TONS and TONS of jump scares, only one or two scenes in particular were actually scary. SPOILER: The van scene(s) and the carnival scene will work up suspense.
The screenplay benefits from its lead, Daddario, who gives an amazing performance. I also enjoyed how director Lussenhop and co. wanted to humanize Leatherface. That part will take some time to get used to, one minute Heather’s running from him and the next she’s walking next to him on a dirt path back to their “home”.
So again, I believe that while the film does have its plot holes and some minor cliches, it’s rather enjoyable for any horror fan, extremely enjoyable for an avid fan of the Massacre franchise, and well…just “meh” for any other audience member. Have fun!
I actually really enjoyed the hell out of Texas Chainsaw 3D. It was the most fun I have had with a horror movie in a long time. I loved the opening sequence that incorporated the original film. It was awesome. The rest of the movie felt like a 90′s slasher film along the lines of Scream and I know What You Did Last Summer in regard to the black humor and I loved every moment of it. I liked how the tone of this film is completely different from the Platinum Dunes 2003 remake and the 2006 prequel. Those films were dark, gross, and gritty, and I loved them, but we didnt need the same movie again now. So this film lightened things up alot and gave us a great night out of the movies. People were cheering and yelling at the screen at all the characters and thats what a fun slasher film is all about. All the characters do the most ridiculous stupid things but hey what is a horror film without that. The only thing I truly hated was that this film took place in present day but the main character only aged a little over 20 years. Makes no sense because she should be around 40 by now. They literally could have altered one scene involving an iphone and it could of easily took place in the late 90′s. But other than that, this was an awesome addition to the Chainsaw series and I cant wait for the sequel.
I meant to put 4 out of 5 stars. My bad
Despite all the bad things I had heard and read about this movie, I actually really enjoyed it. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed the other sequels too, but they didn’t have much of a story line after a while and became repetitive. I found that this movie had a pretty good story line and it was really enjoyable. But I think once (maybe twice?)the blood and gore looked too CGI and I think some more things could have been shown in the story.
Note: I’m only giving this 2 skulls because I was entertained (for the most part) throughout the film.
Entertainment doesn’t always make a movie good, such is the case with TEXAS CHAINSAW.
The movie begins with flashbacks to the original with a bit more added on (the added stuff doesn’t have the same aesthetic as the archive footage). This felt tacked on and forced, it was only there to establish continuity and a timeline both of which were stomped on within minutes.
Flash-forward 38 years and we have Heather who was born in 1974 and is now 20 years old. After learning of an inheritance from an unknown grandmother, she gathers her group of friends and heads to Texas. They pick up a random hitchhiker (THE most pointless character, ever), arrive at the house, and eventually free Leatherface.
SPOILERS FOLLOW**
Okay, so at this point things start to get crazy and I had hope again. There’s a decent, though incredibly fucking stupid, chase scene through a carnival, then just as fast as it came it ends. Everyone’s dead and Heather is at the police station.
From here on it turns into a terribly paced mess. Heather reads a newspaper article and suddenly decides she needs to take care of her “cuz”. They sorta team up and take out some cops and the mayor and she vows to take care of him. Ya know, cook him dinner and stuff.
END SPOILERS**
The stupidity of the characters drove me insane. The one scene with the cop FaceTimeing the other cops was unbelievable. I almost died laughing as the girl (not from Texas) shouted “welcome to Texas, mother fucker”.
I had fairly low expectations. I was looking for something simple and fun like the original. This tried too hard to be creative and turned into an over-plotted mess.
I love Texas Chainsaw movies and have and will see everyone that comes out good or bad. This one was a sequel to the original 1974 movie. The movie starts with an amazing intro showing flash backs of the original movie and all of the events that happened in the original. It was also really cool to watch some of the scenes from the original in 3D! After the great introduction things sort of fall apart when the set of new cast members appear. The main female lead Heather, discovers that her a grandmother she never knew she had died and then inherits the grandmother’s house in Texas. Her and a group of friends make a road trip to go accept the house and on the way they pick up a hitch hiker. First off it really bothered me that Trey Songz was casted in it even more I thought it was ridiculous that they played one of his songs in the movie! After getting to the house the movie quickly becomes fast paced and all hell breaks loose when Leatherface is unleashed. It had some really great jump scares and a few cool 3D affects, but I really wished it was a bit more gruesome, gory, and built great suspense. Also most if not all of the deaths happened rather quickly and none were creative. As a sequel to the original it does not do the original a justice. In the end the twist is some what predictable and the dialogue plus the acting was really bad. Overall it was an ok movie, but no way a very good sequel to the original. It felt rushed and I thought they could have done more with the story of the original. Even though it had many flaws it was still fun to watch people being chased and killed by Leatherface. I give it an A for effort and a C for execution.
terrible terrible terrible plot. Why kill off every pre-known character from the franchise accept for leatherface within the first 10 minutes of the movie? One of the key elements of the texas chainsaw massacre series is the family, and they literally wiped them all out in a mediocre way. Every character was (to me) unlikeable and annoying and the way Leatherface was portrayed to me wasn’t scary at all. The movie was entertaining, but mainly because of how much I was laughing at it. Trey Songs had a better performance than I was expecting from him though.
Saw the movie last night and it was perfect, great follow up to the original, story was great, leatherfaces portrayal was brilliant, all in all i thought it was awesome.
Absolutely great!!! Alexandra Daddario was great, strong and at the same time emotional
Well, let me start by saying that I’m a huge fan of the Chainsaw series with my favorites being the original(obviously)and the beginning in 2006(I don’t know why people hate on that movie so much). I came into this movie with pretty high hopes and to be honest I was kinda let down. Leatherface was still awesome as always and there were some cool kills but it was kinda disappointing that there was only one real chainsaw kill, thats why I love the beginning so much cause pretty much all of em get fucked up by the chainsaw. Now the story is where they kinda lost me, yeah I get that heather is leatherfaces cousin but the whole thing about him not killing her because he remembers her is pretty ridiculous being that he has a mind of an eight year old and there is no way you could trust an autistic psycopath and just move in with him. He could turn on you at any second family or not. And like reviews before me have covered, the whole”Do what you do cuz” line made me cringe in my seat, seriously? I would have added a whole other skull if it wasn’t for that stupid fucking line. Anyways like I said there were some cool kills but I’d say the remake and the prequel to the remake are still far superior films and the Leatherface in those movies was a fucking beast. I’d wait till the dvd if I were you.
+ Included an innovative new technique I’ve never seen in a film before where one character uses FaceTime on his phone to relay live feed as he investigates Leatherface’s Lair
+ A Great scene where a man gets slowly chainsawed in half, and another involving a meat grinder
+ Included several nods to the original film
○ Had a more similar feel to the original than it did the remakes
○ (Spoiler) Gave Leatherface a more sympathetic approach in the end
- Cast basically made up of young, good looking people who aside from the main actress (and maybe trey Songz and one or two others) can’t act
very good at all
- Very unoriginal kills
- Wasn’t very terrorizing
CommentThe movie was very good. True Leatherface Jed Sawyer courtesy of Dan Yeager was dead on target. Yes, the real Leatherface is finally back for the first time since 74. Plenty of great KNB gore (don’t think they’ll have to add much for the uncut bluray release). Great kills. An interesting plot. A different kind of plot for a chainsaw film. A few weird moments with LF like you’ve never seen him before. Great face wearing. The masks looked a lot better than the rubber looking ones we saw last decade. The archive scenes from the 1974 masterpiece were very compelling in 3D (Like when LF bursts out the door chasing Sally. oh what a goodie that was). Approximately 9o% accurate reproduction of the Sawyer house and driveway/road area. The townies have no mercy. The townies also rule. The 73 scene was epic except for when the actor playing the sheriff tried to recite his lines. The actors playing the lawyer and the mayor should also consider other careers. Scott Eastwood was entertaining. The mansion was a good film location. Leatherfaces lair was ripe with good ole sawyer furnishings. Meathooks still kick ass. Appropriate levels of 73 flavor around the whole movie. Gunnar ruled. Grandpa ruled for .05 seconds. Moseley ruled. Marilyn ruled. Tree Sounds was easy to ignore with so much quality Leather around. His acting abilities reached their zenith in a bucket. Had to put up with rap only once that i can remember. Had some good traditional country music and some comedy country also. Camera flashes. Lots of bones in this film, many freshly broken. Thank you Dan Yeager. 3D was good, especially in the daytime scenes. Not a lot of stuff flying towards the camera (3D haters, that means you can watch it in 2D and shut up). The ending was bizarre. Their were some SciFi Channel moments. The timeline is a botchorama from hell. It’s best just to ignore that part. But overall, I give the filmmakers a b- for their TCM 74 knowledge.
This Texas Chainsaw was by far the best of them all except maybe the original. The killings we well done and amazing. The plot was great and so were the twists at the end. The acting could have been way better but Heather’s character was amazingly performed. Dan Yeager as Leatherface was the best choice they could have made. He was a great LF in the movements and emotions. Overall, an Excellent movie!
A Detailed TEXAS CHAINSAW 3D REVIEW by Hellion Hellsing of The Theater Of Death.
****ATTENTION: SPOILER ALERT****
(I will try my best to keep from spoiling anything as I know that many fans have yet to see the film, but I’m human and do slip up occasionally.)
Walking into the theater, For me, there is huge explosion of feelings brewing inside of me for the first showing of Lionsgate’s Texas Chainsaw 3D. Excitement, Tension, Happiness, an overwhelming abundance on anticipation…..yet a sudden sense of fear….a fear stemming from past promises of reimaginings of other Texas Chainsaw Massacre films that were quoted as being “original”, “scary”, & “terrifying”…..that usually end up being crap.
With my sweaty palms, I remove my special TC3D glasses from it’s wrapper, a wrapper specially designed with Daniel Yeager’s intimidating new Leatherface pose. The smell of Popcorn and the motormouthed yapping of teenagers, that as a fan you know, have never experienced the original TCM in all it’s glory….fills the air. Suddenly….the lights go out and the movie begins.
A intro of clips from the 1974 original, beautifully redone in 3D, graces the screen. Suddenly my fear of false promises begins to subside….which for me is a little on the weird side as I tend to never let my guard down. Suddenly, we land on a police vehicle as it speeds down a Texas highway toward, you guessed it, the iconic Sawyer Family Isolated Farmhouse, passing by a beautifully recreated Black Maria 18 Wheeler parked on the side road to the driveway, just as we last saw it from the original film. Seeing The Black Maria in all of it’s glory was only a sign of the awesome things to come.
Inside the Sawyer House, We come to see Bill Moseley, taking the reigns of Jim Siedow’s infamous character, Drayton Sawyer aka: The Cook. Bill Moseley holds his own in this scene of the film, paying, what I might add, a damn good tribute to his friend; the late great Jim Siedow. Along with him we come to see John Dugan reprising his role of Grandpa Sawyer & more family members that were not present in the original including original Leatherface, Gunnar Hansen (applause)….making the scene a bit more intense, just knowing that there were more Sawyer’s involved and are ready to defend the Sawyer homestead, was just amazing from a fan’s point of view. The House was in pristine order….as a fan, you really can’t not enjoy seeing the amazing detail that the production crew recreated…..it was amazing. Sam McKenzie as a young Leatherface, still dressed in the final look of LF from the original film complete with the pretty woman mask, makes his appearance in this scene and is spot on. A vigilante mob of rednecks siege upon the house and exact revenge on the Sawyer Clan leading us into a unearthly TEXAS CHAINSAW 3D title sequence that hits you full tilt in the face.
We skip ahead to now where we come to meet Heather Miller, played by Alexandra Daddario, working in a supermarket along with her friend, Nikki (Tania Raymonde) and living with her boyfriend, Ryan (Trey Songz) where she has an obsession with creating art from bones. Receiving word of the death of a grandmother (Marilyn Burns) that she has never known, she and her friends head for Texas to claim an inheritance left for her.
Arriving at her new inherited home, she is left with a set of keys and a letter from her recently deceased Grandmother. Below in the dank cellar of the house, we come to learn, lives Leatherface, now played by Daniel Yeager, who plays the best Leatherface since Gunnar Hansen in my opinion.
What follows is nothing short of Texas Chainsaw Mayhem and Groetesque at it’s very best. As I have probably said too much already…..I want to just say, that this film has a lot of heart and a great sense of the meaning of family. Sure there is a ton of gore and mutilation as we come to expect from any horror film….but what this film does is it gives you a great story with characters that you like tremendously, a real sense of family, and a real empathy for Leatherface, not as a monster or psychopath, but as a human being.
The ending of TC3D is one that will leave fans of the original begging for more.
As the credits role, the lights come up…..and I listen to the reactions of the people who just viewed the film. Noticeably, You can distinguish the fans to the non fans. The fan reactions were solid, as to where the non fan reactions were misconstruded because they obviously didn’t get it…..they wanted a blood bath….not a great story.
But honestly, I think fans of the original will really enjoy this film. It is the true TCM sequel we have been needing for a very long time. My hat is off to John Luessenhop, Carl Mazzone, Daniel Yeager and everyone involved with the film. It is a film with a very solid script & story by Adam Marcus (of Jason Goes To Hell fame), Debra Sullivan, Kirsten Elms, & Stephen Susco.
I highly recommend this film to anyone who is a true fan of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. It will leave your mind blown and your heart pounding….not to mention, leave you shaking with awesomeness. Go See It Now!!!!
Comment Texas Chainsaw 3D starts off with clips of the carnage of the original, homemade classic, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, which was neat and nostalgic because I’ve never seen it on the big screen before. After that, the incompetent sequel starts where the original left off, that leads to a gun battle at the original Leatherface’s home, which reminded me of the gun battle in the much better film, The Devil’s Rejects. I think it was a complete mistake showing those clips and making it a direct sequel to the original and not the remake, which looks brilliant in comparison. The film forced us to have high expectations and compare it to the original.
The characters are one dimensional and one of the most intellectually challenged individuals in horror movie history and just another reason to put a bad name on this ever growing, disappointing genre. The performances didn’t help matters either and even the lovely and ever so sexy Alexandra Daddario, who was much better in the superior, slasher/character study Bereavement. Alexandra tries but the horrid script fails her in every way. You don’t give a shit about these characters and that’s a bad sign in a horror movie because you want to be on the edge of your seat rooting for them to survive the madness. NOT HERE!
To quote the old fat tea lady in trailer of the remake, “Oh my, my, my, my, my.” End quote; they picked the worst possible director to do a horror movie! Director John Luessenhop seems to know nothing about horror movies or seen one himself. There was no suspense, terror, effective scares or even inventive kills. He had the perfect settings/atmosphere and did nothing remotely chilling or shocking with them, this is a Texas Chainsaw movie after all, but did not feel like one and now I know why they left Massacre out of the title for this failure. The carnival scene could have been a brilliant, stalk and chase scene or even bloody chaos, but it went nowhere fast. Clearly this is a cash cow and they got what they wanted because with early box office reports this could earn up to 25 million! Not earned at all and leaves fans of the original and even the remake, prequel feel very cheated!
The makers seem to want to do something very different with the story and had some twists here and there that you don’t expect to see from this never ending series. None of it was effective in the slightest, at least under these virgin to horror hands. I rolled my eyes during the revealing and everything was just very amateurish and fan made, but more like I don’t know any of the elements on what made the original a classic or the remake and the prequel horror worthy decent made. CLEARLY NOT FAN MADE! I didn’t think I would say this, but this is just as bad or worse than Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation!
Overall, they got everything wrong! This had the potential to breathe new life and reignite the series into endless possibilities of directions. The film ended up shoving the raw meatiness of the original through a wood chipper! Everyone involved with this film should be very embarrassed and hopefully learn from their mistakes here. Along with The Devil Inside, The Unborn and many more, this is a very disappointing start for horror movies for the New Year. AVOID! DON’T EVEN RENT IT!
1 out of 5 skulls
Just saw Texas Chainsaw 3D yesterday afternoon… I have been a waiting a long time to see it, and I loved it! It stayed true to the original 1974 movie picking up where that movie left off. The ’73 scenes were great, even though they moved fast. Bill Moseley did a great job playing Drayton, what I saw of John Dugan as Grandpa was great, from what I saw, Sam McKinzie did a great job as Young Leatherface, and Gunnar Hansen was great as the Boss Sawyer! Even the townies were great! Overall I really liked the ’73 stuff. I also liked the fact that they showed scenes from the original in 3D during the opening credits.
The rest of the movie was great. I really liked the plot. It was a very interesting story and kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. The acting was pretty good throughout the movie. Alexandra Daddario did an amazing job as Heather and I really liked what she did with the character. Daniel Yeager stayed true to Gunnar Hansen’s legacy, and did an amazing job portraying Leatherface. He had Gunnar’s mannerisms down to a T and I really enjoyed it. The rest of the cast also did a great job. I really did enjoy everyone!
Overall, this was an amazing movie and I loved it. If you’re a fan of the original, you’ll definitely LOVE this one. It stayed true to the original. Pay no attention to any so called “movie critic”. They have no idea what they’re talking about. This was an amazing movie and everyone did a great job. I loved it!
What movie did you go see?
Oh, Lionsgate review robot, you so crazy!
Absolutely horrible film. I’m one of those who actually thought that the Texas Chainsaw 1999 remake was actually an OK remake. I even didn’t mind the prequel, but this was horrible. First of all only about 3 people get killed by a chainsaw in this film. I just didn’t care for this movie. It was cheap, lousy, and very predictable. 3D wasn’t that great either. I don’t even know what else to say about this, but at first when I saw the beginning which shows clips from the original I began to get hyped up thinking the film was going to be so worth seeing. I was WRONG! Halfway through the film I was wishing I would have went to see something else from a terrible movie and the ending was kinda stupid/creative. I have no more words for this except for: bad Bad BAD! No NO!
As a horror filmmaker, it kills me a little every time a horror film gets positive reviews for being “stupid but fun.” The bar is set so low these days that the fans fawn over anything that isn’t abysmal. (And some flicks that are.) With a little creative integrity, this could have been a great reboot, alas it’s just another half-assed, uninspired attempt to get your $16. Horror fans sould be insulted. I know I am.
This film could’ve been worse but it did have some great scenes. The music ruined it for me and made it feel like the glossy Hollywood production it was.Why the fuck couldn’t they just’ve had weird sound fx like the original instead of a fuckin orchestra all the time? Made it feel corny along with some of the dialogue as well..”do your thing cuz”! Hopefully the next one goes harder. They should get Zombie to fuck with the next one. He’d do it right. I’d also give my left eye to bang Tania Raymond.Shes too hot.
Also, how in the fuck did Adam Marcus (of Jason Goes To Hell fame), get the job of writing the script n story? That’s the problem with these sequels to great horror franchises. Hollywood ALWAYS hires hacks to work on films they have no business being associated with. They get assholes who are great at writing mainstream, safe, garbage for the masses.
Brilliant is un understatment!! This is the best Texas Chainsaw after a long time. I will only put it a few notches below The Jessica Biel Version.I completely dug this movie inside out. Leatherface is back!! DON’T MISS IT!!!And yes – I have watched the 1974 version, but you need to understand this is 2013, so you need something, which caters to our times and thoughts and fears. This one does.. Awesome Kills! Good Competent Final Girl!! Nailbiting Suspense!!!! which works damn well with 3D. Don’t go to watch it, believing its the Holy Grail of Horror and you will suprised with a smart Tequila shot, which stays with you.
Let’s see. I’ve seen every Texas Chainsaw movie except Leatherface: TCM 3 and The Next Generation. So, after seeing this one, that makes 5 out of 7… I really liked the original for what it was; gritty, raw and most of all… original. I didn’t care too much for the tongue in cheek sequel. The 2003 remake was a nice throwback, although a little too slick and stylish looking for a Texas Chainsaw movie, it did work for the newer generation of fans who maybe haven’t seen the original. TCM: The Beginning I thought was even an improvement over the 2003 remake, and ranks as my second favorite over all! Now… this travesty… Texas Chainsaw 3D… I didn’t see it in 3D because well, let’s face it, 3D is just a bullshit gimmick for them to steal a few extra bucks from you and it’s never worth it, the effects are always pitiful. The movie started out actually really well, paying homage to to the original and picking up right where it left off… however, after that we are left with nothing but a ridiculous excuse for a slasher. All I have to say is… “Do your thing, cuz!” WTF?!?! *puke* One of the stupidest, cheesiest things I’ve ever heard… Steer far away from this movie. If you want a solid remake/reboot/whatever you want to call it… check out The Hills Have Eyes(2006), Piranha(2010), Friday the 13th(2009), Last House on the Left(2009), Night of the Living Dead(1990).. those are all good remakes.
Had the potential to be a very good entry in the Texas Chainsaw movies but turned out to be mediocre at best. It takes place right after the first one (the very original one) which was kinda cool. But after that the movie kinda sucked. The chicks in this I will say were very hot and it was the only nice thing to look at in this whole movie. Kills were boring and un-inspired. The carnivel scene had everything going of it but then it was poorly executed and lame. If your a fan of Texas Chainsaw then like me you will check it out but it is a very big letdown for fans like me.
I’ve been anticipating this movie, since the trailers, tv spots and movie clips have come out.
I was excited to see another Texas Chainsaw film and I absolutely loved it. I know a lot of people dislike it and despite all the hate, Chainsaw was a hit during it’s opening weekend. Very happy!!
Alright, first off, the movie was intense and a blast from beginning to end.
Things I loved: The opening scene (Clips from the first), the cameos (Gunnar Hansen, Bill Moseley, Marilyn Burns and John Dugan), Alexandra Daddario & Tania Raymonde (Great!), the sexy hitchhiker and cop (Shaun Sipos and Scott Eastwood), Leatherface (Dan Yeager is fantastic!), the beautiful cinematography, the intense and exciting music score, the kills (the crowbar/hook/chainsaw kill was my favorite!), the graveyard coffin scene, the car chase/crash, the scene where Leatherface terrorizes Heather and Nikki inside the car with the chainsaw, the references to the first film and the other films (I think so, heh), the ending (Very happy with it!) and the short scene after the credits (Haha!)
Things the were OK: Trey Songz (He wasn’t that bad for his debut and his character was cool), the dialouge (Silly at times, but I really like “Do Your Thing, Cuz.” It feels very modern and as for the “Welcome To Texas” line, I enjoy it.)
Things I dislike: Burt Hartman, some ridiculous character decisions (The cop that goes into the house, alone, but who can blame him?), the meat-grinder kill, some noticeable make-up goofs, the timeline (Though, at the beginning, it never says the year, just the month and day is shown. When we are in present day, it’s 2012, so to me it doesn’t really matter. Yes, it does bother me that we don’t see the year and a lot of people complain about the timeline. I understand why, but who knows what year it actually was.)
Overall, I really love Texas Chainsaw ’13 and it’s my third favorite in the series, right behind the first two. I do think the Platinum Dunes films are scarier, but they’re not enjoyable or fun like this one. I can’t wait for the Blu-ray to be coming in 2 months. As for the franchise, I love the heck out of it. It is my third favorite horror franchise, right behind Scream (2nd) and Halloween (My favorite!)
9/10 (4.5/5)
Could have been great. But its not great. Or even good which it very disappointing. There are some cool things in the movie. Like the opening taking place right after the first movie ended. I loved watching the entire sequence. But after that the movie just goes downhill. The biggest problem with the movie is the timeline makes absolutely no sense. Heather, the main character and a baby in 1973 is somehow 18 in 2012. And leather face, who was around 30 i’m guessing in 1973 is still young enough to be running and jumping around texas, with a chainsaw, in 2012. Its just stupid and also not scary. A little intense during some moments but it can never hold the suspense long enough to be scary. Whatever you thing about the 2003 remake, you can’t deny its a scary movie, so is “the beginning”. TC 3D is not a scary movie and it also doesn’t feel like Texas Chainsaw movie. It’s out of place in the series. The carnival scene could have been the most epic moment in TC history, but it passes without even a shrug. So much potential. But the sequel they seem to set up in the end of the movie sounds insane and is a much more interesting plot. Thats the movie I would have rather seen than Texas Chainsaw 3D. Hopefully they will do better next time.
