I was able to see this movie tonight at an obscure theatre. While it has it’s flaws, I do not agree with bloody-disgusting’s harsh review. It is a shame that this movie was thrown out the window the way it was.

Never knew this movie existed, but hey it Costner, he hasn’t had a really good film in a long time ( I did like Mr. Brooks). Probably catch this when it hits DVD, because I like to subject myself to crappy horror films

This movie was pretty creepy. The creatures were like the descent, very cool looking.

Now for the bad. Kevin Costner is not a good actor in this at all.
A couple of small things that really don’t matter. The ending was pretty open book horror cliche. And left you wanting more.

The good was that the movie was pretty creepy, and is a good time killer. Is it and amazing movie, no far from it. But it was rather good.

And it was weird the girl was naked in like every scene. LOL

    But check it.

One of the dumbest movies I’ve seen in a while and a complete borefest until the retarded last 15 minutes which was somewhat suspenseful with a terribly retarded outcome!

Entertaining little film esp. coming from anchor bay. This film in the hands of a better director could of been a little gem.

This movie was all kinds of bad! I was surprised to see Costner in such a movie. I’m all for anonymity about creatures in films but, this movie really confused me. It was like they tried to explain but didn’t fully and it just left you confused about what the hell was going on. Was she posessed? Was she transforming into something else? If so, why and how the hell does that happen from sitting on a freakin mound? This movie just made me mad and it made no sense.

It started off pretty intriguing with an very creepy atmosphere and suspense but lost its way towards the end. The acting was good from all and the story unsettling and different kind of like Ginder Snaps meets Orphan but never reaches to their greatness but the rest was pretty standard made for tv quality. The thing that hit it hard was the crappy ati climatic ending that left you hanging dry and made the movie pointless. Overall I don’t think they knew what type of movie they wanted to make I’m mean did they wanted to do a werewolf movie, a supernatural flick, a psychological drama or a thriller and when it did lean more towards one of them it seemed like they gave up and called it a day, very weak effort. Skip it!!

Interesting premise but pacing issues made this a difficult watch.

I give this movie a “meh” it had an interesting idea and Kevin Costner is always good…but it seemed like it was lacking something. It drug a bit in some parts and i feel like other things were thrown to the wayside that could have been highlighted a little better. The explanation of what the “mound” actually was was skirted around in a quick scene and the introduction of the “past owners” was lacking big time. Also i think horror movie watchers have seen enough movies about Indian burial grounds to get the gist of how it is gonna end up.

My browser or software doesn’t allow me to give this movie a skull rating, as usual. So, I’ll have to give it a 2 to 3 skull rating here. When writer John James (Kevin Costner) moves his two kids to a new house in a new town, his teen daughter (Ivana Baquero from “Pan’s Labyrinth”) starts displaying some very strange behavior.

The good news is that Baquero gives an excellent performance as Louisa. She gives us much more than the typical teen angst of a girl who parents are recently divorced. I sincerely hope she doesn’t get typecast as simply a horror actor. I believe she’s capable of more. She is in one completely unnecessary, but mercifully brief, bit of nudity. Another plus is that the movie does not reveal its secrets too quickly or schock us repeatedly.

Although I’m not a big Costner fan,I’m afraid his best movies may be behind him. He gives an acceptable, but not compelling, performance. Part of the blame must be given to the screenwriters, who don’t spend much time developing any of the characters in the movie. “The New Daughter” centers on what happens to Louisa and what John does to protect his children.

This movie contains elements which are all-too familiar to horror movie watchers: divorced parents, troubled children, a new home, Indian burial grounds. Furthermore, the script is vague, perhaps intentionally, about what happens in the last few minutes. It’s as if the filmmakers didn’t want to commit. Despite some selling points, “The New Daughter” is simply average; we should expect better from Costner and Baquero.

Official Score: 2 / 5
