Here is a perfect example of a film that looks good, seems to have all the right elements to make for a good time, but turns out to be bland, unoriginal, and very disappointing. It also explains why user reviews is turned off before a movie opens up. The movie is a big letdown!

Even after the first five minutes, I thought they had something; unfortunatley, fifteen minutes later, it was obvious it was not to be. Sci-Fi-channel-level material here. Bugs seem interesting at fist sight, but they are one-dimensional. Bugs should be gooey and icky, but except for some shaving cream that comes out of them when they explode, they were missing a level of datail that made them real or scary. I did like the hybrid bug people, but nothing comes from this: it’s shown then forgotten. These few fx shots/makeup, along with the main character who was sort of funny, helped carry the film through its many slow moments, lifting the film from the complete-waste-of-time bin – only slightly.

I think they had a good, original idea, but weren’t willing to go all out to make a film that took any chances or showed anything origianal. Showing some breasts is a horror or monster movie to get an adult-rating cannot and will not make up for the lack of story, scares, effects, and acting – all of which this film is lacking.

I’m in agreement. This movie was incredibly disappointing. It’s not funny, it’s not fun and furthermore it’s not bloody. While I am always OK with a movie being PG-13, movies like this suffer because of it. I also couldn’t stand how the webs looked like giant pieces of cotton. The lighting was overexposed and acting way under par for such a great cast. Pass.

You guys are jerks (lol) — I may have been pretty drunk while watching this flick, but for a SyFy original I was quite entertained. This is definitely a movie where you must have ZERO expectations to enjoy it – and can’t let the low budget, mostly cheesy CG take away from the rest of it (and yes MrDisgusting, the webs looked like the fake snow you put on your Christmas tree.) This movie is a COMEDY at heart and if you’re expecting ANY form of horror here, turn the other way. I thought the cheesy CG and the cheesy acting simply made the movie more funny and enjoying to watch (same way that In The Name of the King was hilarious from start to finish!)

The main character and his father were both pretty fun characters and there was a few great moments throughout (when a certain character is gunned down by another character, for example, I was literally cheering with delight).

So anywho… all in all, if you’re bored as hell and your only options are Wrong Turn 3 (as it was with me) or Infestation… give this flick a shot and I’m sure you’ll get a kick out of it.

This movie was funny as hell. The ending was a tad disapointing but I got a lot of laughs out of this I couldn’t stop laughing. It kind of reminded me of zombieland but with bugs instead of zombies. Its good to kill some time too, and it’s not really that bad of a movie.

I have to say this was entertaining Horror Comedy. Nothing special but B.Nevin was a bright spot.

This is a hard movie to rate. Overall, it is your standard SyFy movie of the week. The plot is so formulaic that traditional plot developments (the discovery of the bugs’ “weakness for example), are summed in 10 or 15 words of dialog. It’s almost like the director is saying to the audience, “Yeah, you know what happens here. Let’s move on.” Overall, the movie felt ridiculously rushed.

The thing is, he just might be, as there are a few moments of genius, where it is clear that the director knows the trappings of the genre and plays with them. Cooper’s speech about “if I turn into one of those…” is a great and hilarious moment. The way the tension between Cooper and Cindy plays out is also delightfully different and unexpected.

Unfortunately for the movie, there just aren’t enough of those genius moments. The jabs that the director takes at a few genre cliches end up amplifying the many, many others that he falls victim to.

That said, I watched this all the way to the end, and I don’t regret it. I was reasonably entertained, but simultaneously let down by huge number of missed opportunities. I will look forward to the director’s next film, and I hope that budget issues, which were clearly a huge limitation for Infestation, are friendlier to him next time.

My final note will be to offer huge kudos to Chris Marquette on his performance. He was definitely a cut above most of the other actors in this, and really made the movie a lot more watchable. His character was believable and hilarious, and I look forward to seeing him in bigger and better things.

Infestation (2009; 91 Min.) is a fun, quirky and well written comedy/action/sci-fi film (from director Kyle Rankin) which is about a slacker named Cooper (Chris Marquette) who finds himself waking up in a world controlled by massive bugs. I am not a huge fan of “bug” movies but this film takes the cake. It has humor while it keeps you tense and you can’t wait to find out what is around the corner. If you feel like a fun action/Sci-Fi with plenty of humor (and if big bugs don’t freak you out too bad) then watch infestation.

    **SPOILER**

As an added bonus, this film also has the BEST ENDING EVER in a movie; not your typical “Hollywood” endings-I get so tired of those happy, smiling, hugging moments on a long boom shot and the music begins to play. This isn’t one of those.

I really liked this film. I expected this to be a terrible B movie, but imagine my surprise when it turned out to be good. It’s a good mix of horror, action, and comedy. The cast is great, and the acting is done well. The creature FX were pretty good, and there was even some gore. I’m not sure I enjoyed the ending, but the rest of the film made it worthwhile to watch. If you like campy horror films, you’ll enjoy this one.

I’ve seen plenty of B movies to last me a life time and yet I still seem to run into them from
time to time whether it be “On Demand” or on a
regular cable channel, cuz I won’t ever be caught
dead or alive renting the god awful movies are you fuckin’ kidding me? Anywho this one looks to
dreadful to see even “On Demand” I still wouldn’t
waste my damn time with this one.

It was ok but it’s what you would expect. Don’t watch unless you have a couple of beers in you first.

An interesting, very funny, quite colourfull, with some ‘out of the square’ moments, even if it were quite predictable, still it gave me a good entertaining hour and half.
It could be bigger, so I hope there will be a sequel with a better production, and a bit of more XF.

Comparing to other low budget scifi horror (and I have seen my fair share), Infestation is just about the best thing since Plane Dead (aka Flight of the Living Dead). It’s clever and funny and I had a lot of fun. It’s not fair to compare it to the foreign horror film like REC, this is not that type of movie. It’s not scary at all. It’s for fans of zombie and creature feature (and I am happen to be a fan of both) and it’s more of an adventure story where group of survivors ban together to try to live through the fresh post-apocalyptic world.

The survivors all have personality. The main character is full of them. He’s a sarcastic geeky type but he knows when to man up and when to shut up. And is also reasonably brave and smart when needs to be. The main girl and other survivors fit the typical last group at the end of the world stereotype, but clever turn of events here and there keep it fresh.

The special effects are not bad at all. Don’t think you will see the bad effect like in Dinoshark. The effects are a little bit above Smallville level, and they do not ruin your suspension of disbelief. I like it that they don’t hide the creatures too. It’s action packed and not too many cheap surprise.

I don’t know what to say to people who don’t like this movie. I am a zombie movie fan, and a creature feature fan, and this movie has the best of both world. To complain that the acting is bad, or the plot is predictable, or the bugs look unrealistic; I have to ask: why do you like horror movies?

There are scenes where a character look at one another and doesn’t say anything. You know what they are communicating. That deep moment you rarely find in low budget horror. I also like that the new characters the main group runs into half way into the movie are still fresh and have reason for being there. The little things they put in the beginning come back full circle in the end. All in all, it’s way more than your average straight to video syfy movie.

You know, I ran into a lot of bad creature features recently when I turn to Syfy or renting a video foolishly thinking that some foreign horror film (like La Hordes) will offer some meaty satisfaction. It’s a shame that people group this movie among those, when there are a lot of thoughts being put to character development, witty dialogue, and pretty solid action sequences.

This is one of the most satisfying low budget syfy creature feature I have seen in a very long while. I have as much as fun with it as I did with Drag Me to Hell, REC, Shaun of the Dead, and Plane Dead. And those were all big budget stuff! See this movie. If you are really a zombie movie/creature feature fan. If you expect every movie you watch to be Let the Right One In or Aliens, this movie is not for you.

Much better than I expected it to be. It kept me entertained throughout the entire film and the bugs didn’t look bad either.

The tongue-in-cheek style of the bug attacks and character humor made for a fun view. The creature effects were good for meager means, and the Norris Creature-ish human/bug mutations were fun if not a bit creepy—hello young’un in the “hive”. Marquette is enjoyable as the smartass slacker turned hero, and Brooke Nevin is, well, hot. Not bloody, no gore, no scares–just some survival from the mega-insects campness to kick back and watch for what it is.
