This movie was not particularly scary, gory, and seemed to not know exactly what kind of a horror movie it was trying to be. We have a sargent that goes nuts and kills a couple folks. Then we have some Pitch Black want to be type supernatural creature that shows up like twice. And we have a native girl that is a creature too. The acting wasn’t half bad. And if they would have played the psycho sargent angle more we might have a winner. But, they didn’t. So we don’t. It was a decent watch at best. For a movie that wasn’t sure what it was actually supposed to be.
Dead Birds- now that was a good film. Red Sand, on the other hand, is a trainwreck. It’s amazing how badly the directors went wrong with this film. I honestly think the film could be boiled down to 15mins and nothing important would be lost. There is no character development, the environment is boring, the deaths are rubbish, and the plot is so thin I could see the insides of my TV. All in all the film is BORING and I honestly couldn’t wait for it to end.
A little disappointing compared to Dead Birds but still an enjoyable paranormal thriller. The CGI was a bit weak but the story was good and the cinematography.
A patient view will reward one with djinn hi-jinx!
Movie starts w/ a definition of “Djinn”, so basically you can expect some genies! Ragtag group of US soldiers in Afghanistan. The brash Americans shoot up a statue, no doubt unleashing an ancient evil and whatnot. A bit like The Hurt Locker meets Deathwatch, Red Sands is a competent thriller of the “picked-off one at a time” variety, w/ a welcome tendency to “not show the monster”. The acting is good, dialogue natural, and the characters are likeable. The Evil Genies are Silent Hill/Del Toro-esque creatures. Good flick.
