Suspense,Terror and gore!. This movie delivers on so many level’s. You really feel for the cast when you understand that “NO DUMMY CROC’S” Were used in the Film, Yep! That’s right, Every shot is of real Croc’s. The Fact that The Directorial Team of Andrew Traucki, and David Nerlich, were on a very tight budget and still manage to scare the pants of you, makes this the better film in the genre. So,If you’ve seen Rogue(Which was based on the same true events),and Primeval, Then this will Appeal to you.

I don’t know why they’d give this movie such a crappy title and cover art… It doesn’t do it justice cuz it’s actually pretty good. I wouldn’t classify it as a monster movie at all, despite the croc… It’s more suspense driven and leaves a lot to your imagination. Check it out.

Didn’t like it. No suspense here due to the fact that the acting is awful and it just doesn’t feel real. I like the fact that they wanted to only rely on actual croc footage, but considering how little you see of it, is not worth mentioning.

This croc film was just ok not great, definitely worth watching just once. Rogue is still the best croc film out there.

I rented this flick from Blockbuster last year thinking it would suck so bad. But I was actually pleasantly surprised. The film actually builds up tension and suspense rather over-the-top violence. I also liked how they revealed the crocodile at the end of the movie, rather than every minute reveal the creature. The acting and the script are both strong. Even though I thought the ending could have used more work Black water delivers. Don’t be fooled by the stupid, cheesy DVD cover. This is one heck of a crocodile film. Both Black water and Rogue are kick-butt crocodile films.

We actually did a killer-crocodile double feature here, after reading that ‘Rogue’ got a top 2008 spot here on Bloody Disgusting (…I forget the *exact* wording), and reading a bunch of posts talking about ‘Rogue’ vs ‘Black Water’ and which was better, I figured watching both back-to-back was the only option.

Black Water was quite great. The story will sound weak as I type it, but 3 people are stranded with a territorial crocodile. (Think ‘Open Water’ in a swamp in Australia.) What was great about the film is what the director did to give the overall ‘mood’ of the three stranded people, and I found myself thinking that I was not sure what *I* would do if I was in that situation. Black Water never went to a ‘oh-my-god-theres-a-giant-mutant-crocodile-after-me’ chasing me, but left me with a feeling of dread that I never knew what was going to happen.

Overall, I think I prefer Black Water. Favorite scene was definitely the at thunder/lightning storm at night, where the screen flashed then returned to black. The sounds effects during it were outstanding. While there wasn’t as much flesh ripping or people tossing as Rogue, the overall tone made it a great movie.

This movie contained less blood and gore and more emotion and adventure. There were lots of good scenic shots of Australia. It was a real story of survival and out smarting the elements and, of course, the crocodile. It was a unique horror movie and it was refreshing because it was not a slasher flick.

I enjoyed the ending because there was a change in the character roles and responsibilities. The weak become the strong and the strong become the weak. The decision making and problem solving processes were great. The alternate ending option at the end of this movie would be great because the cause and effect principle played such an import part in this movie. The accents were pretty cool but the acting was mediocre. I also learned a fair amount about the nature and habits of the crocodile, so that was pretty interesting. If I were to introduce horror movies to a person with a weak stomach, this would be the movie. In the battle between Black Water versus Rogue, I would definitely prefer Black Water.

Average. In all honesty i turned it off half-way through watching it the first time, because the croc was only shown once. Then a friend said watch it all, you’ll like it. It often gets compared to Rogue, and never gets better reviews. When a continued watching it, the croc did come back and a few scenes were entertaining, but for me it took too long to get into the story. Majority of the film, they’re stuck in a tree, and they just talk, which isn’t very interesting apart from one of the sisters telling the other she’s pregnant. It can’t compete against Rogue, because Rogue is unbeatable, if you take any other croc film they’re shit compared to Rogue.
The plot was very simple and if it was going to standout it needed to be interesting and have lots of great dialogue. It didn’t. Only about five scenes in the movie are great and keep you hanging on for more. With the pregnant sister they tried to make you fell for her when she is attacked but they don’t make you feel as if she is going to die. I like the setting of the plot, just not the dialogue.
The acting is believable, and to a point perfect. You feel for them in some scenes when they feel like giving up, but they don’t. The acting is probably one of the best parts of the movie.
Overall, Black Water, doesn’t shock, but it’s entertaining to a point. My rating is 3/5

This croc feature is a way better than the over hyped Rogue. It just goes to show once again, that you don’t need a huge budget and big effects to create a movie with suspense and tension. Plus the fact that real crocodiles were used in some scenes adds to the realism. The story is much more believable as these characters find themselves stuck in a much more terrifying situation. Stuck up a tree in a swamp in the middle of nowhere and being stalked by a man eater is a predicament that no one would want to be in adding to sense of dread, and not knowing where and when the croc is going to rise up ramps up the scares and tension even more. A pretty good film considering the no budget and a small cast of 3. Could have had a little bit more blood, but then so could have Rogue. This is worth a watch.

Three cheeky monkeys sitting in a tree teasing Mr.Crocodile “You can’t catch me” …
Along came Mr.Crocodile quiet as can be ….
Snap snap snap … no more monkeys sitting in a tree :D

    This movies rocked!!!!

I loved it.. it was grim and intense. I love most when animals attack movies so I knda though I was going to like this one and I really did!

The acting’s really good and the script and directing are killer .. I highly recomend this movie. Australia has been making some really good great films in the past few years and this is one of them.

    *Spoiler Alert*

Very slow in some parts. You don’t see enough of the crocodile. Predictable.

I was kinda disappointed by the size of the crocodile. Also – even though I’m no expert on crocodiles I don’t think there’s any way a crocodile that size is flipping over a boat.

After the guy flipped the boat and came up for air, he latched onto the side of the boat and dangled there for a bit. How about jumping right into the boat instead of advertising yourself as a meal? It was way too obvious as to what was going to happen next. Give the viewer some credit of intelligence and allow the guy to get his body 3/4 out of the water before the crocodile lunges from the water grabbing him by the leg and pulling him under.

It’s an alright film, but I thought Rogue was a much better.

This turned out to be a decent movie, I definitley enjoyed watching it.

That being said, Rogue is far superior in my opinion, but I still reccomend seeing this movie before or after you see Rogue.

Watched this last night, I thought it was preety good, was a little predicatable, and also slow at times, i.e. when they were just sat in a tree doing nothing, but all in all a good movie with some nice suspence and action.

I watched this on Fearnet last night not expecting much, and was actually really surprised. The acting was convincing, the croc was pretty fucking twisted (and further proof that less is more). I appreciated the fact that the man eater isn’t shown very much until the last quarter of the film. The idea of it sitting below the surface of the murky water, waiting patiently really added to the suspense. The survivors slowly tiptoeing their way through the water gets repetitive, and right when it’s too much to bear it pays off. I haven’t seen Rogue, but after watching Black Water, I’ll definitely check it out.

Wow, big surprise: this is not your average croc-schlock, but an impressively suspenseful and effective survival-horror and so far my favorite crocodile movie (even better than “Rogue”). Extremely tense and atmospheric with a great cast, a fabulous soundtrack, a wonderful swamp location and a brilliant-looking croc (no CGI, no model, a real one).
    Simply great!

Freakin’ incredible! Such a since of dread and fear comes over you while watching it.Not like Lake Placid or Anaconda…this feels very real even using a real aligator. It was truly terrifying. One of those low budget film that make you realize how those big budget films could have been scary if they kept it real like this!

Go buy Rogue for your monster Croc fix. Can basically see stuff like Black Water on a made for TV docu rather than on a dvd movie. Not that it is made poorly (’cause it is made well and with good croc scenes), and the true-story based survival mode is cool—but would far recommend seeing a cool beastie flick like ROGUE over this fairly tame work anyday.

Black Water, like 2011′s the Reef (by the same Director/Writer Duo), is a nature versus man movie. It begins quickly with two sisters and a boyfriend going on a sightseeing trip in Australia. They decide to go out on a fishing boat and tour the river, only to have tragedy occur as their boat is tipped over and their guide killed by a crocodile.

What ensues is a film where the poor folks are stranded, feet from their overturned boat, with a crocodile still in the water. As a set piece trapped people movie, Black Water is fairly well-done. While there is a tiny bit of CGI, they mostly rely on real footage of crocodiles to tell their story.

In fact, that crocodile itself was one of the issues I had here. I am not a zoologist or anything, but what I can recall from my classes and countless documentaries, says that crocs generally hunt, kill (typically by drowning) their prey and then leave it to decompose a bit before finally eating it. While crocs can remain motionless for days, they haven’t been know to just surface directly behind people in the water and wait to be noticed like a killer in a slasher film.

Killer animals, for me, work best when they simply act like animals. Certainly the animal can take an interest and hunt characters without appearing to have some type of almost malevolent set of motivations. Then again, without that behavior their likely wouldn’t be many, if any killer animal movies.

While it is clearly made on a tiny budget, the film is focused, action packed and really felt great with a solid running time under 90 minutes. I enjoyed what I saw and would watch it again. While there are other similar movies that have captured certain elements better, the smaller nature of this movie and the fact that it was a normal sized croc made this a solid movie. I can only imagine what they would have done with a larger budget.

Overall Black Water is a solid survival horror movie and worth at the least a rental. For folks who like more realistic man versus animal movies, this one mostly fits the bill.

This is one terrifying and harrowing killer croc flick and one that I put off for way too long as it is now one of my favorite creature feature of all time and is just as good as Rogue. The acting really surprised me as everyone especially the two female leads gave it their all and I’m talking about The Descent all out and made the whole ordeal raw and effective especially good when it’s based off of a true story. It takes place in one location as three vacationers get stranded when their boat gets flipped over in crocodile infested waters of australia and from there on it’s a fight for survival and brings the terror from Jaws back to the waters. This director is one to look out for as he has two successful and scary creature features under his belt with The Reef and now Black Water, man he is on a roll so far and I hope he continues because he is one taleted director of this genre and he knows how to build up the tension and suspense without showing too much or relying too much on CGI and every horror director should learn from him, this guy deserves his big break and check. His two films ends very similar and on a bleak note but quiet and haunting and I’m very surprised that his films are not getting that much recognition or praise and sure the story isn’t anything that breaks new grounds but the terror and raw simplicity makes the film rise up above most horror films of today and it deserves credit, this one will leave you chilled to the bone. Overall Black Water is a solid and effective little creature feature one horror viewing that shouldn’t be put off but a must see for any fans of Rogue, Jaws or creature features in general. Highly Recommended!!!! 10 out of 10!!!
