A big step DOWN from Craven’s original, but at least Jack Sholder and company are trying to make ‘Freddy’s Revenge’ a scary flick. At times the film makes no sense (exploding parakeets; pool party Freddy; leather-clad gym teachers), but isn;t that the point of the ‘Nightmare’ movies? The blurring of reality is running rampant in this one. Kudos to Kevin Yeager’s Freddy makeup. This is a weird one, kids. I like to call this the ‘Twin Peaks’ of the ‘Nightmare’ films.
Ok sequel, no where near as scary as the original.
im sorry but this movie sucked big time
This movie while not as good as the first is still alright. The first time i watched it i was like what the hell. Since then i have watched it more and it is ok. Tried to go this whole other route, that was unnecessary. The movie was good and crazy and just alot of madness.
This film is absolutely terrible. Robert Englund’s appearance as Freddy Krueger is just as memorable as all his appearances so there’s no problems there, it’s just the film is drenched in absolutely appalling acting and stupid plot.
This is one of the major disappointments in all of the Nightmare films in my opinion the worst. Good god one of the worst story’s ever why the F*ck does he have to pick the absolute idiotic teenager to take over this is a major major disappointment. By far the worst thing is the plot. This film is TERRIBLE!!!
I was in too it!, but didnt start watching in expectation that it was gogin to be an awesome story line, you have to enjoy it for what it is! FREDDY!
Not a very good sequel to the original.
great
One of the worst horror sequels ever.
This movie was so bad, it makes me sad to think that they sat back, and made more of them because of the success of this sack of shit. I’d rather watch Barney than this crap again.
This movie is a guilty pleasure of mine. Although I think as a sequel it fails, and it does very little to advance the story of Freddy Krueger, I still enjoy watching it from time to time.
A nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy’s revenge is hit and miss. You either like it or you hate it. In this case, I liked it. There’s also two ways to look at it. One, as an effective fun popcorn flick. Or two, a horrible disgrace to the original. If you are expecting what the first film had, such as great acting and lots of scares. Then that’s why most people hate it. People were expecting too much from the sequel and that’s why people said it failed. I thought it would suck because of the reviews but I actually liked it. Overall give this sequel a chance. It’s a fun way to kill an hour and twenty seven minutes.
why did u bring this in fucking franchise .. it was GEY movie man…ORIGINAL was fuckin scary and the best ever .. but it still ruin it little ri8
well i thought it was great
Over the years, I’ve grown to appreciate this film a lot more then when I was younger. I still only consider it to be about average, but that’s a lot better then what I use to call it. Well, Freddy is back, and he wants revenge! Robert Englund does a phenomenal job once again as our favorite Christmas sweatered maniac. The rest of the cast, not so much. This time around we focus on Jesse Walsh (Mark Patton), a young lad who has moved in to a new home with his family, and guess who’s former home it use to be, dun dun dun…
So inevitably, Freddy starts terrorizing the fresh meat. Stalking him through his dreams, while slowly taking control over his body “You’ve got the body…I’ve got the brain”. The first nightmare we see, I must say is fairly well done. In this nightmare, we see Jesse on the school bus heading home with Robert Englund appearing in his normal form as the bus driver (nice!). They go on a little off road field trip, as our innocent bus driver becomes Freddy, and gives our hero a lil’ scare. Luckily Jesse wakes up, covered in sweat, screaming (…like a girl) just before Freddy can rip him to shreds. They definitely took this film in a different direction having a male lead in a slasher. Sometimes it’s good to be different, but not in this case…
As many already know, this movie has a heavy homo-erotic undertone, and in my opinion it does affect the movie in a not so positive way. Whether it’s Jesse’s all-star dance moves while cleaning his room, his high pitch screams, the gym teacher in the gay bar, the shower scene or the weird buddy buddy relationship between Jesse and high school friend Grady (Robert Rusler), it’s pretty hard to deny that it’s there. Over the years, I’ve somewhat learned to look past this and would suggest others to do the same to make it more enjoyable.
This movie definitely breaks some of the rules created in the first film, such as things happening outside of dreams like the family budgie going haywire and exploding in mid-air (WTF!) and toasters catching fire, basically pure randomness. Well now that I think about it, the whole plot is breaking the rules, but this sequel was clearly rushed out quick-time but what can you do.
One thing that I love about this movie is that Freddy is still scary, he has a few really great scenes in this, unfortunately they’re too far in between. The scene where Freddy takes off his hat, pulls back his skin to reveal his brain is great, reminiscent of Freddy cutting off his fingers in the original. Then towards the end of the film, we’re treated with a couple others like Freddy finally taking full control of Jesse and coming out from within, shedding the Jesse layer of skin before giving Grady a much deserved shanking. Then there’s the pool party massacre with Freddy in the real world and not giving a damn, quite entertaining, although unrealistic to the rest of the series, as Freddy still seems to have some supernatural powers he’s known for in nightmares.
One major complaint I have with this film, is the conclusion, it’s extremely anti-climatic. With Freddy having full control of things in the real world through Jesse, it’s up to high-school crush/girlfriend Lisa Webber(Kim Myers) to save him. She goes searching for Jesse/Freddy at the old Powerplant, hence the boiler rooms always appearing in dreams (I guess Freddy must have really liked that job as that’s the first place he goes while being in the real world). While making her way inside she must walk by guard dogs with human faces (hmm…The Unborn, not so original now are we). Once finding and confronting Freddy, they have the shortest chase ever, and right when he’s about to kill her…he can’t! Wanna know why? Because she loves Jesse too much and wants him back, so she kisses Freddy/Jesse as her deathblow to the dream demon…er…reality demon…and that melts him…what an exhilarating finish, quite epic *rolls eyes*. It’s pretty clear this film has it’s faults, but at the same time, it does have some great Freddy moments thrown in there. At the end of the day, it’s a really sub par sequel to an incredible original. A forgettable entry that is pretty much ignored through the rest of the series. Hmm…normally I’d be upset with a series doing this, but in this case maybe that was a good thing.
5/10
One of my favorite of the series, truly genius!
“you are All my Children now ” – Freddy
This is just as horrible as “Freddys Dead”. Absolutley terrible film. These movie suffer from the same problem as the Friday movies, people grew up watching them and they have nostalgic value to horror fans who mistake good memories with good filmmaking. I’ve been guilty of this before myself. I must say i have never been so shocked at people liking a movie this terrible. Literally every horror fan i know in real life considers this a cinematic abortion. This past halloween i tried to watch all of the Nightmare films, and had to skip through this one after 20 min. Not scary or creepy in ANY way. And people have told me it was just as much a piece of shit when it first came out in theaters. Wish i could give it 1 skull.
I’m sorry…but this is my favorite in the Elm Street series…i think it’s creepier..and Freddy is more demonic…nothing funny about him at all. The FX are great, especially the “possesed” scenes…and when he crashes the pool party…Iconic…great film..Englund at his sinister best.
All high scores to the series.
I would skip this one and go straight to the 3rd one tbh.
It’s alright, but just not as enjoyable.
While this movie is still not as good as the original it is ok…at first the movie starts off really slow and seems really weird…but an 50 minutes into the movie it does actually become pretty creepy…the part I’m talking about is when Freddy comes out of Jesse and kills Grady and than goes and tries to kill Lisa and ruins Lisa’s party annd from that point forward the movies is pretty good although the ending should have been better….this is good but still not as good as the original
Though Its Mostly Hated. I Enjoyed Nightmare 2 For What It Is. A Dark Retelling Of Beauty And The Beast
It’s hard to comprehend what was going on in the film makers heads when they churned out this stinker. Seriously, none of the rules apply from the first movie and it’s less than illogical. Why would Freddy essentially want to be reincarnated as this loser?
Best part is when the bird randomly catches on fire.
Didn’t really like this movie. There were a few hits, and a lot of misses
great story, but not something i expect from a nightmare on elm street movie!
What is so wrong with this sequel? I really thought it was great! In fact it was my favorite part in the Elm street series!
Jesus… this was something awful…
You can tell it’s bad because the only thing I remember about the entire movie was the nude bondage scene with the gym teacher… why did this even have to happen?
This is without a doubt the most homoerotic horror film ever made. Without a doubt the gay subtext in the film is so over the top. and being that i am gay I can enjoy that aspect of it. As far as being a great movie it’s far from it. but it’s still creative and freddy is still pretty scary. Plus the guys are hotesque always a plus.
It you can make it through all the homoeroticism going on in this movie (and it’s a lot!) then you have some decent gore, Freddy still being pretty scary & the pool party massacre that’s the highlight of the whole movie.
I really don’t understand the hate for this film. I last watched it like a year ago and never really picked up on the whole homoerotica vibe, but now people mention it, i see where there coming from. But this did not affect my overall opinion of the film. I admit it’s not as nearly as good as the first installment in the series but noway is it the worst. I’d say it’s the 3rd best, after Dream Warriors. There wasn’t a point in the film where i was not entertained and hooked on the storyline. Overall i think the film has some good kills and some memorable moments
ZERO SKULLS
One of the worst horror movies ever.
This is the movie masucist’s dream come true.
This movie suprised me! I didn’t know what to expect from the first sequel, but it was actually pretty good. How can you forget the famous room cleaning scene? Classic.
The first Elm Street is pure excellence. The most original, classic horror ever made. But this rather horrible sequel ruined that vibe, with stupid, corny deaths and alot of acting issues. Ok, maybe I’m being harsh, but I hated this compared to the first. The acting was a bore, and the plot was just plain stupid. The deaths were gory fun, but were a little ridiculous. I liked Freddy better here though, he seemed alot more scary, with some real atmospheric scenes of violence towards to end of the movie. Fans of the first, stay well away!
Good Points: Gory deaths, scary Freddy and a great ending.
Bad Points: Boring at times, horrible plot and acting, re cycled ideas.
5/10
a very bad sequel to a decent original. I used to own the boxset but sold it due to the fact i didn’t enjoy most of the freddy films. I owned it cause i collected horror franchises at the time.
Not nearlly as good as the first but still not bad at all. Some decent effects and decent performances most noticeably from Clu Culager.
However it just isn’t the firt moie there is just something missing its not as memorable not as dark not as quotable as the first and theres no Heather Lakengamp as well. Plus i thought the connections to th first movie (the diary) was a little forced and could of been done better.
The film was shot though beautifully i have to admit the shots of the outside of the house and the gym inparticular.
so on the whole not as good as the first but still not bad at all.
a cool plot, but it could’ve been better
This movie gets some bonus points just for being fucking bizarre.
Ugh… sadly this film was as bad as people say it was. It started out average and was watchable, but by the middle all the way to the end, it was just too obvious that this film was rushed and horribly thought out! Definitely worth skipping!
An underrated sequel. This is more of a possession story than a nightmare film. The gay themes are more than subtle IMO. It’s actually well-acted and Jesse is kind of an awkward character that makes it interesting.
pretty good
Everyone who reviewed this movie to be crap is just a wannabe sequel hater jumping on the band wagon. It’s quite a good film & Freddy is actually evil which after this one really he was turned into a bit of a comedian, so overall it’s not a bad watch.
Entertaining film. To me Freddy was always a comedian.
I love all Freddy movies! He’s funny as crap, i love that he slashes everyone where there is buckets of blood, and whoever made his skin is freaking awesome!
not as bad as people say.there are some stupid scenes but overall good.
I hate this movie but at the same time I love that Freddy is still evil as shit. And yes its true this is one of the most homoerotic movies ever. I couldn’t stand Jessie idk I kind of think a dude screaming like a little girl gets annoying. If you love NOES check it out, if not I would skip this one and go straight to part 3 Dream Warriors.
This film lacked decent protagonists, or maybe it was just tainted by bad acting? Jesse’s screams turned what could have been really eerie scenes into a fucking joke. The leading lady of the film was o.k. until she started going into speeches that border lined the generic ‘psychic in a horror movie’ crap.
That aside, this was the only sequel to A Nightmare on Elm Street that had it’s roots firmly planted in reality, which isn’t to say it’s the best sequel, but it captures a certain feel that is shared with only the original. The story itself is pretty good, and Freddy is at his most menacing and evil here. A Nightmare on Elm Street 2 is worth a watch if you’re a horror fan, and more so if you’re a fan of the original, but it should be watched with an open mind and a few beers.
Nightmare On Elm Street 2 picks up 5 years after the first, Jesse, the new kid moves into 1428 elm and weird shit begins to happen. this movie is one of the very few nightmare sequels that i really enjoyed. freddy is still scary and dark in this movie which makes it worth the watch. the story is kinda interesting because freddy is trying to take over jesse’s body and possess him which is far different from the other sequels where freddy is just showing up in dreams and killing kids, they actually tried to do something different in this one and i appreciate that. freddy has a great look in this one and he makes the movie..sadly though, hes not in the movie as much as i would like. theres alot of time through out the film where he just isnt anywhere to be seen and it does hurt the movie in the long run. and yes, the homoerotic themes are prevelant in this one as well. the main character jesse is very feminine and he screams like a girl. his gym coach likes to dress up and go to gay bars in the middle of the night. and jesse keeps complaining of freddy trying to get inside him…hell he even has a sign on his door that says “no chicks allowed” so be prepared. the effects are so-so and i dont believe they hold up near as well as in the original. the acting is so so as well and the overall feel of the film is a bit “off” but this is an elm street film so ultimately that is probably a good thing. i loved the pool party scene as it boasts his best one liner ever. overall this is the best sequel of them all as it has the last time freddy was intimidating and scary and the story, while imbalanced at times, does just enough to not make it suck.
This is probably my least favorite ‘nightmare’ of the franchise. At the end of it I was left asking myself tons of questions. For example: Why did the writers feel they had to change things up so much? In this installment Freddy uses a proxy,(Jesse,) to get at his victims, and he does more stalking in the real world than in peoples’ dreams. If it isn’t broken don’t fix it!
Furthermore, where is all the violence? The first ‘nightmare’ was a great slasher pic. But this nightmare is tame in comparison. True, there are a few good scenes near the end, but not enough.
Thankfully the producers of this film seemed to learn from their mistakes, because the sequals that follow get a lot more interesting.
A very strange entry into the Elm Street series, yet hardly the worst. Lots of WTF? moments, but the story of Freddy possessing a teen and using him to do his kills before finally being “birthed” through him was cool in my book. A lot of people keep asking WHY Freddy would choose such a “loser” in this film, but the reason is staring you in the face. He was living in Freddy’s house! Freddy’s house and the boiler room he died in have always been seminal places in this series, and seem to be where he is most powerful. It wasn’t a matter of choice for Freddy, it was a matter of convenience. Jesse was there, so Freddy used him! As for the “issue” of Freddy still having powers in the real world after being “born”…well…he’s still an evil spirit isn’t he? Why would all his supernatural abilities vanish just because he crossed over from his reality to our own? Besides, you really can’t apply any laws to the Elm Street series, because supernatural tales do not abide to any!
Not as good as the others, yet worth a watch.
After watching the movie again last night I have a few things to say:
1. This is the most homoerotic 80′s slasher movie ever. With lines like “He’s inside of meeeee!” and “I can feel him coooooming!”
2. What the fuck was with the main characters high pitched wales? He screamed like a 12 year old girl who found a snake in her backyard.
3. The main character is Ben Still dressed as Corey Haim from Lost Boys….but dumb and gay.
The movie for the most part is watchable, especially with friends around to help you make fun of it.
Freddy is only in the movie for 13 minutes and there is very little that actually comes across as “scary” or “creepy” in this shotty movie.
Also, Freddy only said “bitch”, maybe twice?
It’s really a lacklust film that leaves you with a lot to be desired.
A small plus though, Ferris Bueller’s “Dad” is in the movie as Mr. Grady briefly. That’s a nice little easter egg.
Save yourself the trouble and shoot right one to Nightmare 3 and forget about this movie like it was a bad nightmare.
my 2nd least favorite nightmare. i HATE HATE HATE the main character. he annoyed the living hell out of me. the plot was kinda boring…it would’ve been a better film with a different male lead. couldn’t stand that dude. and what the hell was with the homosexual undertones? one word to describe this flick is just…gay. seriously, although freddy is creepy, he seems like a witch in this one almost. and the S&M club scenes? wtf?!? i did like how freddy was still creepy and didn’t crack one liners. otherwise, dumb sequel
tHE SECOND WORST! This and Freddys Dead should have never been made! But it did have a kick ass ending but that was it!
I know a lot of people hate this entry in the series but I for one thought it was pretty good. At least they tried to add another dimension to Freddy, not just the nightmare thing. Although some of the characters are unlikeable, I think Freddy makes up for it. Not my favorite entry but its not as bad as people make it out to be.
Why does everyone hate this movie?
I gave this movie a second chance, but it failed. The gay stuff doesn’t bother me that much except for the coach’s death scene. What bothers me is that this film doesn’t feel like a Freddy movie. It didn’t feel right, and the kills sucked. The movie itself is decent, and Freddy looks pretty cool, but let’s face it: they fucked it up! Good enough for a one-time watch though.
Wasn’t a big fan when i was a kid, but can appreciate it more today. The darker days of Nightmare on Elm Street. Love the body count.
‘Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge’ is the 1985/1986
I thought this movie was alright..but could of been better. It isnt really one of my favourites.
Okay, the first Nightmare on Elm Street was one one the greatest horror films of all time. But this movie was a pathetic attempt to try and make something that could have been better. Number one is when Freddy killed the kids at the party. What made the first better is that the adults thought the kids were crazy cause they couldn’t prove Freddy. Bad. The lead was horrible as an actor. Freddy could have ripped him apart in life. Bad. How does a bird catch on fire because it was just hot. What made me laugh is when the gay said ”It is hot as an oven in here”. But that’s it. Shouldn’t have been made.
I don’t care what anyone says this is the best nightmare on elm street movie ever made. I loved this one the best sorry but I found it great. Number 1 was great as well but this one in my opinion was slightly better not by much but better. Very underated movie and deserves more. The rest of the series is absolutely shit. Complete garbage and a complete waste of time watching the rest they suck and loose the plot so badly.
I am madly in love with the NOES series. Yet that is the only reason this gets as high of a score as I’m giving it. It is definitely my least favorite of the series. I just haven’t ever been able to get over the homo-erotic tendencies of Freddy and the male lead in the movie. I can’t help it.
not better then the first one but its still good
it had some scary parts but it also had its problems
Things really fell apart on this one.
Okay, there are a few things that I need to say about this pathetic mess of a what could have been a decent sequel:
1. The Dialogue. WTF??? “He’s inside of meeee!!” FAIL!
2. The Acting. Come on, the actors (besides of Robert Englund, who was great) made Steve Segal ad Justin Timberlake look like oscar winners. The main caracter was such a fucking whip, nancy took it like a mn when she battle freddy this little bitch, he was a useless baby.
3. I saw this when I was 10 yars old, ad no one scene scared me, grossed me out a little bit, bu didn’t scare me, the jump scenes where not scary never was the suspense, nthing about this film is scary, just funny.
4. This is the perfect example of a LAUGH OUT LOUD MOVIE, it was funny and fun to make fun of exspecially when the main character screams like a 10 year old little girl.
Overral his movie is number one on my WORST HORROR SEQELS list. Terrible, i really did try to gve it a chance but after the first hundred times, I just gave up on it.
Don’t waste your time skip it and go right to Nightmare 3 which wasth second best sequel of ‘em all, the whole movie is a nightmare from beginnin to end.
Thanks for reading….
good movie
the only good thing about this movie is freddy. just a shitty sequel of a good horror flick.
I only hate the fact that this doesn’t include Nancy. It does however, include her house. This takes place after Nancy and her family have moved off Elm Street and a new family has moved in. Teenage Jessy is now being haunted by Freddy in his sleep after moving into her house and now Freddy wants to use him as his “vessel” so he can cross over into the real world. So it’s up to Jessy to fight him off before Freddy’s reign of terror reaches the surface. This is full of cool special effects and death sequences. The open sequence with the school bus is worth the rental cost alone. A lot of people complain about the “gay” undertones, and I however, enjoy them. I think it adds a little comedy to the mix. It’s definitely a worthy addition to the franchise.
What I didn’t like about this movie is that there was just to much talk talk going on with everything but somehow they still made it entertaining to watch.
The acting is this movie was really dreadful from the whole cast, Freddy Himself didn’t even seem to be that scary or creepy at all in this movie.
Which bring me to the deaths, there are only two deaths in this movie (which was let down) and both of those deaths were terrible done not gory or nasty.
This movie is not the worse of series but I am not saying it’s a good movie but it is a least (Just about) watchable.
Terrible
A cash grab sequel that fails on all levels worst in the series but still watchable for any die hard fan.
A good sequel, I mean then we will see some worse.
This made absolutely no sense, and most of the acting was pretty terrible. I hadn’t expected much from a sequel, but really, I expected more than this. I did, however, enjoy seeing so much stuff burst into flame; good stuff.
a great sequal, kinda wished they stayed with the whole nancy storyline a bit more but i also like thats its a refreshing take aswell.
Not as bad as everyone says…
You can call it bad if you want but I thought Freddy was at his best in this. They left out all the stupid one-liners and just let him at it.B esides 1 and 3 this was the meanest Freddy was in any of them.
Back in the day, couldn’t get enough Freddy. This is pure shit for acting, story, etc. That wasn’t the point. Freddy was a phenomenon, and they couldn’t crank these films out fast enough. An original (in the 1980′s) take on the well worn slasher genre. Solid three skulls for Freddy.
I wouldnt say this is the worst ANOSE movie if it was a movie all in its own I’d say it was great. deliverd some pretty memorable and creepy parts. However it strayed away from the original concept that freddy kills in you in your dreams that would be the only downfall i beleive
No matter what anyone says I regard this film as the next best ‘Elmstreet’ film after the first one i loved this film of course it is abit tacky but theres some really sick scenes and the story I thought was a good way to go with the story when I go back to my boxset I always watch the first film and this one.
I enjoyed it…not as powerful as the original, but it was good. Was the last movie Robert Englund made Freddy frightening.
It’s not as bad as everyone says it is.
I don’t think that this Nightmare is as bad as everyone thinks; I found this movie to be pretty decent.
