The Best of the ‘Nightmare’ sequels. The story is great, the cast is spot-on (who doesn’t want Laurence Fishburne in a Freddy movie?), and Krueger himself is still edgy, and not quite the parlor trick he is today. The most imaginative of the series without being stupid. Scripted by Frank Darabont (Blob, Shawshank, Green Mile, Mist)… not to be missed.
I agree, this IS the best of the sequels. This one almost scared me as much as the first.
When i was a kid they played this on cable all of the time. It grew to be one of my favorites. this one is not very scary but pretty interesting. The group fighting freddy and the powers in their dreams is really cool. The death scenes are very imaginative but not scary. I really enjoy this movie and most people will if you like freddy. Of the sequels this is one of my favorites.
This movie is so much more fantastic than I was led to believe. I’m not gonna say ‘best of the sequels’ until I finish the lot, but I was very impressed. The story of Freddy’s conception gave me chills. The most creative, interesting, and disgusting deaths I’ve seen in a long time.
Bottom line: extremely entertaining. Whoever said all of the sequels were shit must not have seen this.
Definately my Favorite of the sequels Great actors just a great film!
The second best ‘Nightmare’ film. From a technical stand-point, it’s as good as the original, except the original was more…well…original. Has great effects and acting.
The best Nightmare sequel the special effects were one of the best in all horror films this was such an
improvement from part 2. Very smart move bringing Nancy back I really liked the plot for this. The special effects were classic. The gore was great, the death scenes were all awesome overall this was a great sequel. Highly recommended.
plot was better then 2, not as good as one! but still ruled!
Really didnt like it that much. The one liners are horrible.
its freddddddy
Excellent special effects.
I liked it WAY more then the first movie. Still not a very good movie but it has something about it that made me like it more.
Definately the ‘second best’ Nightmare. I just knew seeingWes’name in the credits it was going to be waaaaay better than part 2. Bringing back Heather Langenkamp was a such a great idea and so was setting this in a mental home witthe ‘last of the elm street’ kids. Again, great gore and kills, the opening dream sequence was incredible as were the ‘death by tv’ and Phillip the ‘sleep walker’ deaths. This one had a creepy and unsettling feel to it when first watched it on first release. The last of the elm street kids, the last of the great elm street movies.
Amidst all the people that complain about horror movies nowadays, and the large amounts of remakes that come about, people seem to forget that the genre was pretty guilty of similar shenanigans in the 80′s. It wasn’t remakes, but sequals. There is no need to make as many films in the same series as they did.
One of the best Freddy movies for sure.
One word to describe this movie… WOW i thought freddy’s revenge had destroyed a nightmare on elm street but this movie back
halloween9movie…the same thing dude..i thought freddy revenge destoyed it and gonna be worse but…what can i say about this movie..so fucking awesom story and gri8 acting..OH GOD HOW MUCH I LOVE THIS MOVIE
Freddy Krueger is back yet again. For a third time in a row. You know what they say. Third time’s the charm. In this case it’s true. The last sequel (A.K.A. A nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy’s revenge) was good but the acting was just crappy. The next sequel actually had some decent acting, really cool special effects, and kills. While I still think the original is the best of the series… so far I still recommend this sequel. Definitely entertaining. Wes Craven did really good as a director/writer for the first film and his writing here was brilliant. Overall, I recommend this sequel. It’s fun. It’s scary. It’s a good way to kill 96 minutes. (92 if you don’t count the credits).
This movie was definitely a turning point in the series. Wes Craven really took advantage of the whole whole dream demon concept. This is the entry that stepped it up a notch when it came to creativity which resulted in a really entertaining movie. The nightmares are more intense as anything is possible in this one, Freddy does a lot more then just jump out at you here. Plus, we ignore the events which took place in part II (good idea) and we get to see a familiar face as Heather Langenkamp returns as Nancy Thompson. With the return of Nancy and Wes, this movie really feels like something special.
In this entry, we follow the story of Kristen Parker (Patricia Arquette, who does an excellent job alongside Langenkamp) who is placed in to a psychiatric institution after slicing her wrists, but really we know it was Freddy doing it by making the taps of a bathroom sink come to life in a dream (pretty intense nightmare actually). Once in the hospital, we meet a bunch of other kids who all share similar dreams of FREDDY! It’s a really good idea and setup for things to come. Also, Wes brings back Nancy by having her accept a position as a research scientist at the same psychiatric institution. Now with everything set in place, it’s time for Freddy to cause some havoc.
Immediately we see Freddy begin picking off the kids one by one. We see him go after Kristen first as a snake like monster in a nightmare. Luckily, she pulls Nancy into her dream to help before she is completely swallowed. This ability to pull people into dreams was another great addition to the film/series. One of my favorite kills of the series comes shortly after, as Freddy goes after a kid named Phillip Anderson (Bradley Gregg) who is known for his sleepwalking. While asleep, Freddy jumps off the wall as a puppet, which was pretty neat, and becomes himself while standing in front of Phillip’s bed. I know I’d freak out if I woke up to him just standing there. Once noticing Freddy’s there, Freddy begins cutting him up, and using his bloody veins to control him as a marionette, which leads to Freddy cutting the strings and Phillip falling to his death and making it look like a suicide. Easily of the most creative and gruesome deaths in the series and it looked fantastic.
Another creative kill is when Jennifer (Penelope Sudrow playing another patient), the girl who wants to be the movie star and burns her own owns to stay awake, falls asleep while watching TV. The TV goes fuzzy and as she tried to change the channel, the TV grows arms and Freddy’s head busts out picking her up and smashing her head through the screen while delivering the line: “Welcome to Primetime Bitch!”. Pure awesomeness, but with this being said, allow me to introduce to you, the new and improved…Comedian Freddy, well maybe not yet, but like I said already it was a turning point, for the character and the series.
The effects used in this film are great for the most part, the snake bit and puppet death both look fantastic, but there are some choppy bits as well, like when The head doctor at the institution Dr. Neil Gordon (Craig Wasson) teams up with Nancy’s father Lt. Donald Thompson (John Saxon) to properly bury Freddy’s human remains, but are confronted by his skeleton (ugh @ that scene).
Throughout the film, we are shown more and more what can be done with dreams, as the teen patients all find out they have their own dream powers, as they team up to become Dream Warriors! This really helps build up to the final showdown as they all must use their dream powers in stopping Freddy. The ‘death’ of Freddy is much more epic in this film compared to the one before, as it’s a combination of taking him on from the dream world and reality. Unfortunately, while making it more epic, we also see the death of Nancy as Freddy imitates her father and finally takes her out. I must say it did work well though, with Nancy passing the torch on to Kristen…for now.
Dreams Warriors has one of the best casts in the series, if not the best. We get a younger Patricia Arquette and Laurence Fishburne both putting in good performances and Robert Englund back again as our burned up maniac. Also I really like the tag team combination of Joseph ‘Joey’ Crusel (Rodney Eastman, playing a mute until he finds his voice) and Roland Kincaid (Ken Sagoes, playing a smack talking strong man with some pretty funny lines).
In conclusion, this is a fantastic sequel that could have easily worked as a conclusion to the series since everything seemed to wrap up fairly well. We see an equal amount of comedy/scares from Freddy, unfortunately for the last time before the comedy takes over. This entry is easily my second favorite in the series, but when comparing it to the original, I just can’t give it that 10, but a much deserved 9.5…
9.5/10
Best in the series by a long shot acting, writing and directing are fantastic
I like the creativity of there being a way to defeat evil, but Freddy will always win.. He cant be forgotten
I enjoyed all the Nightmare on Elm Street Series
So Nancy is back and she is pissed.
There are some awesome death scenes in this movie, I particularly like the puppet boy.
It’s starting to drag out a bit by this movie, but you should defo watch it all the same.
my second favourite of the series this one and number one are the best ones
hope they dont try and mingle this one into the remake and keep it seprate from the first 2 films
After 2 I went into this one with really low expectations and wasn’t expecting much…But this movie was awesome..I believe this is the only one so far that got near capturing the terror of the original!!!! Heather Langenkamp was really great in this and Patricia Arquette was a great actress as well. Patricia sure could scream and everyone was great…this movie was great and i was sucked into it..i actually got scared and even had tears in my eyes when Kristen had Nancy in her arms crying because she was dead
I loved this movie!!!!
Fun Movie.
Easily the best of the sequels and a fan favorite. There’s just something so cool about a bunch of crazy/screwed up kids taking on Freddy.
Not to mention Freddy comes into his own in this movie, with more creative deaths and witty one-liners.
One of the first horror movies I got to watch as a child. The only “Nightmare” movie in the series that I think is scary. I love the opening. Sucks you in immediately.
Favorite Parts: Freddy the Worm. “Do you like my body Joey?”. Puppet boy. Needle hands Freddy.
I found this one to be more comical then scary, but still a great one!
This is my favorite of the Nightmare series. It’s progresses the series in a new direction as Freddy takes a more humorous approach. more manacing and refined here than in any other entry. Plus it awards it’s charachters with dream powers so that they may battle Freddy near his own level and it brings back Nancy and features a young Patricia Arquette as Kristin. The film is a 80′s explosion of horror goodness.
One of the best sequals in the series. The new idea in this one is the victims, um I mean the kids are using their dreams to try & fight back against Freddy. Great FX, the “Freddy worm” is classic!
Definitely one of the best Nightmare films. It has very likeable characters, great deaths, an interesting plot, and awesome effects. Oh yeah and don’t forget the stereotypical black guy that’s funny as hell! A great sequel.
By far one of the best Nightmare Films : )
Great effects : )
Awesome Sequel
8/10
There’s a definite cheese factor to this movie seeing it now days, but that doesn’t change the fact that it’s hella entertaining and a highlight in the series! The special effects are top notch, and the story interesting…it actually makes you root for the victims for once!
So part 2 takes place wait part 3 oh yeah the true sequel takes place i’m guessing several years after the first one and freddy’s still out terrifying. The reason this movie worked so well was becuase it continued the story in a logical way and had a strong followup with nancy’s character as well as her dad. Not a whole lot was left unanswered as this sequel fit in alot for its hour and 30 some odd minutes. Freddy was able to show a little more character in this and ofcourse gave birth to “welcome to prime time bitch” I liked this movie alot more when I watched again when I was older because I was able to pick up alot more thus enjoyed the story more. maybe not as fun as part 4 as it’s a bit more serious but still a very strong sequel in its own right.
I have to say this was my favorite Freddy sequel to date. part 2 was a major let down but this one resparked the flame on the franchise
My personal favorite from the franchise. I think it’s funny how the lead chick went on to do Medium. I think it’s cool how the characters tried to fight back in their dreams (unsuccessfully). I also has some of the best kills of the franchise.
as good as the first one, probably because Heather Langenkamp from the first one is in it, and gets killed at the end, then again, the main character always gets killed in Part 3 of every horror movie franchise.
in conclusion, such a cool movie!
While unquestionably superior to it’s “shit-fest” predecessor, “Freddy’s Revenge”, I was still expecting SLIGHTLY more from this movie, but nevertheless, it delivered as a well made Dark Fantasy film with a mixture of Dark Comedy. I think this is the film that started out Freddy’s “humorous” side. The film also had Great effects and was solidly entertaining in it’s kills, thought I wasn’t too impressed with the ending, and considering the Elm Street franchise isn’t one of my favorites, I don’t think I’ll be exploring further entries in this saga. I’ll stop here where it’s good.
An interesting idea, although this is where Freddy started to lose his creepiness. It still kept the darkness of the original, but began to push more to the horror/comedy that the franchise would later take. Still, the dream sequences are amazing, like in all the movies, but this one does bring along its own original idea, mainly using your ability to do anything in a dream against Freddy. Not bad, but still doesn’t compare to Nightmare 1 or New Nightmare. But it is the best out of the “Dream” sequels, and definitely goes far above Nightmare 2 and Freddy’s Dead.
One of the best sequels, ever. The kids with the ‘dream powers’ is cool, too bad they still get owned so easily by Freddy. But I loved this movie, I thought it had great nightmare sequences and Freddy was a badass, with some great humour to boot.
“Welcome to prime-time, bitch!”
a classic
This is one of the best sequels ever. and the fact that Heather came back was the key that made this film succeed.
The best elm street since the original
I love all Freddy movies! He’s funny as crap, i love that he slashes everyone where there is buckets of blood, and whoever made his skin is freaking awesome!
some of the best nigtmares are in this one.
An Effective Sequel
Classic nightmare on elm street the black kid cracks me up every time though.
By far the best of the sequels! I freakin love this movie still! It was actually the first horror film I seen when I was 3 and have been hooked every since! I wouldnt say it was better than the original BUT it holds a more special place in my heart.
the best of the nightmare sequels in my opinion. totally triumphs nightmare 2. even though this is where freddy started cracking one liners, the tone of the film is still dark, and its great. great to see nancy again as well.
Pretty cool sequel, the nightmares were great, but I wish they would have showed a little more Freddy in the film. It kinda seemed like he wasn’t on screen too much compared to the other entries. But overall one of the best in the series. And of course Robert Englund is the fucking man as Freddy.
Awesome sequel
Not as good as the first but much better than the second. Dream warriors is an excellent installment in the nightmare franchise. The only bad thing i have to say is that while it starts off very strong, about halfway through it begins losing steam, still a very entertaining movie nonetheless.
‘Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors’ is a 1987 seconded sequel/third movie out of the film series. The genre Drama, Horror, Thriller & Mystery were all brilliant blend in the movie, the style, theme, element & texture were aswome & gave the movie hope in better sequel and the music/sound had really creepy & freaky music while having cool horror tune for the movie.
One of the best and way better than the second one
This is my second favorite of the series. It is also the reason I was forbidden from watching the movies when I was really little. I apparently started imitating one of the scenes from this movie with my food while we were in a restaraunt. That is all I’m going to say about that.
one of the best in the series.
One of the better installments in the series.
almost as good as no. 1
yet another shitty sequel. langenkamp and arquette don’t even get naked.
And Nancy returns!!! I think this may be my absolute favorite entry in the franchise because it deals with the “last of the Elm Street children”. The final teenagers who’s parents were directly responsible for the death of Krueger are now all in a mental institution. But that hasn’t stopped Freddy from picking them off one by one. Nancy leads the kids into a face-to-face war against Freddy in an attempt to end him once and for all. This one is made very well and includes some nice cameos such as Laurence Fishburne and John Saxon. It also introduces a new leading heroin, Kristin.
The best Elm Street sequel(yes and I’m counting A New Nightmare), great kills, creative take on the NoES mythos and just an all around fun movie. “Welcome to prime time bitch!”
I loved it, great movie
Not as good as 1 and 4 but still very good. Loved the return of Nancy.
A very good sequel! I haven’t seen all of Part 2 to review it, yet but I have seen this. I really liked it. Not as great as the original and the remake, but still very good.
I had low expectations for this but what I got definitely exceeded my expectations and kept going. It made me laugh hysterically and the kills and special effects were really good. All In All, Dream Warriors is a fun ride.
If Freddy was a stand-up comedian this would be his greatest concert movie.Pure fun in all of it’s 80′s style horror glory. Not scary but still entertaigns. Highly recommend and “Welcome To Primetime Bitch”!(This second best next to the original)
Lets go kick that motherfuckers’ ass all over dream land..
The last of the good films of Freddy, after this, all will be very bad.
You have to see, another great classic.
Well with this Nightmare on Elm Street film I didnt know what to expect but then I just sat down one night and decided to watch this and I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. I mean not as good as the first film because I saw the first one before this one but it still was great. There was a little bit of comedy in there but it worked well in the film. So awesome! Fans of the original Nightmare on Elm Street will love this one for sure. Not as good as Wes Craven’s masterpiece but still good.
sometimes sequals begin to drag but this movie is perfect in its own right, ok it may not be all that scary but the comedy in it is genius and the plot is original. I love it!
The lead from number one returns! Though not as good as the original, it is loads better than part 2. A few genuinely creepy moments, a few more genuinely disgusting ones, and some laugh-worthy ones. And hey, the plot made sense (mostly)! Glad I watched it, and might even rewatch in the future.
Pretty damn good.
Pretty good for trashy 80′s cinema. It was really good when it came out. I wouldn’t say classic but a solid entry. Certainly better than the banal remakes.
this was actually my favorite instalment of ANOES the kid that got turned into a marionette always creeped me out… and it also delivered my favorite movie quote “welcome to prime time bitch!” I love this movie
I thought it was a good sequel but the character of Freddy became too in your face and his scare factor dropped to zero from where it was in the first and second movies. It was fun and entertaining but once again you knew the “super-teens” never had a chance. S$#@, even Nancy was killed. Should have been taken more seriously by the writers, keeping to the theme of the original.
Great Sequel!
This one was the best sequel in the nightmare on elm street series !
One of the best Nightmare sequels. I can watch this movie over and over again.
