JULIAN BECK gives one of the most eerie and creepy performances on screen of any I have ever seen, right up there with Heath Ledger’s Joker as far as just being uncanny in perfection of presenting a disturbed eerie individual.
unfortunatly for the film it’s the only good solid thing going for it, because it’s pretty much rehashing the original in a different way, perhaps a more meatier script would have done this possibly good sequel justice.
great follow up felt like the origional, awsome effects ,and that crazy lookin old guy(gives me the willies).
Has it’s moments. The priest was a nice touch, but as far as creepy imagery goes, I found this movie to be lacking a bit. The braces sequence is the best in my opinion. And of course, there’s an old indian guy who blah blah blah. Don’t get me wrong, still dig this movie. Just doesn’t have anything on the first one.
The sequel to the great original, Poltergeist. The Other Side continues the story of the original family, and the little girl. But they can’t escape the haunting of the spirits. The plot is pretty damn simple, yet well scripted. But, compared to the first movie, this is a complete dissapointment. The nice touch of the priest is a good one, he is one freaky guy, and I think he is what kept this movie alive. I also thought the CGI wasn’t as good this time, and I found the movie a bit boring, and the ending sucked. I’m not going to go into much detail, because compared to the first movie, this is a really bid downer.
5/10
It was an alright sequel but nothing special. The scene with the tequilla worm was priceless. Overall pretty enetertaining.
Good, but not as good as the first one.
`Poltergeist 2: The Other Side’ is a 1986 horror film of a sequel to Poltergeist, it features the return of the original’s family and once again sees a spirit trying to harm their daughter Carol Anne. The movie is more of a family battle upon the ghost & sprits that where underneath the pool at their old home to take Carol Anne away from them (again) to the other side.
The Movie is more light hearted on the horror & thriller element as it more surprising & suspicions from this sequel to the original, as when you see the original it more scary & freighting but the sequel has its moments, as when you know the scary bit are about to happen or when a eerie but weirdo scarier sound/music tone come on you know that not much is happening but you’re scared of what the unknown will be, but when its nothing you just feel silly & that how they get people scared by the sound/music tones.
The special effects for this movie is pretty brilliant & outstanding effects shown just like the original this sequel is just as good with the sprits & unholy showing of the cool special effects in the movie, now the storyline/plot I think was pretty prefect for a sequel to the greatest Poltergeist haunted house Movie of all time, as it show element of the freeling family trying to run away but have to faces it heard on with the beast which his name is Kane as he had a religiously group in the 1800 & that they want Carol Anne for her living being form of light to show them the light as they dead underneath their home, which I have to say they did have a great back-story & information for a good sequel and there were some disturbing & freighting moment in this sequel but not as much as you think there would be for a ghost/spiritually movie (but both Poltergeist 2: The Other Side & Poltergeist 3 have nothing on the Classic Poltergeist movie but are decent sequel of the film series).
The acting was great for the original cast, as for the newcomers they were terrific in their roles, which were by JoBeth Williams, Craig T. Nelson, Heather O’Rourke, Oliver Robins, Zelda Rubenstein, Will Sampson, Julian Beck and Geraldine Fitzgerald, while the director Brian Gibson did a pretty stranded directions of this sequel film and the ending was pretty tense, but at the end it was hopeful & fully of family love & joy, they had the strength of love & keeping together no matter what which says a great message to other families that need this sort of stuff that missing out of their lives, it’s a very loving/fun ending and it was sweet as a good watchable movie.
Native American medicine man as spiritual guide to the Freeling family? Ingenious. Tangina as another aid…great. Terrifying old man as bad guy? superb. All the perfect elements for a stellar continuation of this classic story. The execution was done poorly and the lack of the elder daughter from the 1st movie strained the fun-family feel we had of them in the first. Overall it has some unforgettable moments, it’s an above average, but very flawed sequel. As for the antagonist, the portrayal of “Kane” was genuinely frightening and you felt a certain sense of real protection and safety with “Taylor”. Sources say Will Sampson, a real Native American medicine man, performed an exorcism on the set during the filming.
