This movie kicked ass. It was a near-perfect mix of comedy, gore, and teen romance. I highly recommend it.
its like a teeen version of evil dead
Watched this last night with my son and we both enjoyed it. A great horror/comedy movie
One of the best modern horror/comedies you’ll ever see.
Some people will love it, others w”ont, Am about in between, its decent enough but feel its all been done before.
i finally got around to seeing it…its probably the best horror movie to come out since shaun of the dead and dawn of the dead (remake obviously)
I thought this movie was pretty awesome. I especially love the zombie on zombie action.
I really liked this one. Nothing new but really fun…
This is as good as it gets. One of the best zombie flicks in a long time. Bring on part two
OMG THIS MOVIE WAS AMAZING!!! It seemed so random but that’s what made it so fantastic. I loved the whole thing with the fact that some of the zombies were runners, some were slow-walkers, and some of them just leapt out of the freaking ground and started chasing people!!!! I loved how it was about teens and that it did a pretty good job with it, other than most teen oriented horror flicks. I was running around my house with so much adrenaline from watching that film for about 40 minutes after the movie was over. I would have to say one of the most fun movies I have ever watched and completely recommend to watch it with a bunch of gore/zombie loving teenagers!
Highly reccommend If you haven’t seen this yet something is wrong with you. This is one of the best zombie movies to come out for several years. This is as good as it gets.
I enjoyed this movie well enough. It lacked a bit in the originality department, and wasn’t nearly as funny as Shaun of the Dead, but it’s still worthy of checking out. The best out of all the Ghost House Underground series that I’ve seen so far.
Hilarious.
Dance of the Dead kicks some serious butt. I love this movie. It’s like Breakfast Club meets Dawn of the Dead. Full of crisp plotting and snappy dialogue, this movie rates extremely high in entertainment value. The biggest plus is the fun and well-developed characters you enjoy spending an hour amd a half with…And did I mention there’s great zombie action.
I absolutely LOVED it!
While there is a bit to admire in this zombie comedy, its still just mediocre. The laughs are well not that funny. Especially when compared to Shaun of the Dead which was funny. Maybe I just don’t like teen comedies anymore. It has some good effects and zombies but that’s about it
I didn’t really like this as much as I had expected to.. I’ve seen it compared to John Hughes films and return of the living dead, but I didn’t see any of that sort of magic here.
Effects were good and I enjoyed the coach character, I’ll take what I can get when it comes to zombies..
I really don’t see what’s even remotely good about this film, it has nothing good going for it. This is not funny, it doesn’t work and the acting is atrocious. I actually bought this film because of the certain hype around it…I never buy films based on hype but I thought would take a chance, well I’m not doing that again. I give this movie a zero!
GUYS .. why u take this serous..i agree that its the best horror comedy zombie movie ever with Shoun of the dead … it was the best really..nice acting and gri8 horror moment..but .. at the beginning i though its a really cheap film ..!! after was another movie..its fucking Gri8
This movie is awesome, awesome awesome! just go see it..right now
its really funny…like not just for a horror movie..its actually a funny movie, and there were parts that were actually pretty scary, and the characters are all people you grow to love, i just watched it and im pumpeddd, cant wait to see it again =)
This movie was the worst zombie flick I have ever seen, even worse then Day of the Dead 2. I hated every character but one and he died off quickly. I dont care about stupid teenagers and their gay ass prom. If you liked this flcik get rid of any good zombie movies you have (Dawn of the Dead, Night of the Living Dead, Shaun of the Dead, Re-Animator, etc.) cause you dont deserve to own them.
Two things set this film apart from the rest of the zombie crap that has been saturating the industry lately. First off, it was made for a fraction of the budget of most main stream films, yet it never feels small or cheap. Second, and probably the most important aspect that raises this above the rest, is that the film is populated by real likable characters. Characters who develop as the story progresses, and you can’t help but love. How many other gore fests can boast about that? The film is not perfect, but as anyone who has ever tried to make a film will tell you, these guys did one hell of a job! definitely see this flick!
This was a pretty good zombie flick. Hot girls, good gore, and quite a bit of zombies. The acting is decent too, although I hated the band and the terrible music they played. Worst part of the movie, emo fags have no place in zombie movies…not as the heros, anyway.
this was a good movie, i thought it was going to be kinda lame but it wasn’t it was pretty funny and i liked all characters =]
Pretty good Zom-flic. Good characters, lots of gore, decent effects, overall it was good.
It’s the best zombie movie since “Planet Terror”. Very funny and gory.
Great movie definitely has to be one of my favorite zombie movies. Its a must buy, don’t rent it because I’m sure you will want to watch it again.
I really enjoyed this movie. Funny, gory and some very likable characters. On a personal note, I loved the fact that this movie was filmed in my dad’s hometown of Rome, GA. It gave me a connection that I’ve never had with any other film. I actually recognized the school and the cemetery…cool!
I remember a time–maybe five years ago–when zombies were actually, you know, pretty cool. Sadly, that fact became too well-known with Hollywood and now it’s an unspoken law that every major studio and indie producers alike must release at least five zombie movies a year. If a studio is having hard times financially, no problem! Just release a sub-par zombie movie and all the zombie geeks will have you swimming in cash before you have even written the script. Furthermore, I think “Yahtzee” Croshaw summed up my thoughts on the subject when he said: “It’s my observation that zombies are second only to ninjas, pirates, and monkeys in the list of things nerds like and need to shut up about.” The zombie genre has become more overbearing and overdone it makes the amount of remakes and pointless sequels look downright conservative. And what bothers me even more than that is the fact that 99% of the zombie movies I’m talking about are EXACTLY the same. If you think Dance of the Dead is any exception to the paragraph I just wrote, you have less intelligence than a zombie itself. (Forgive the terrible analogy.)
People site Dance of the Dead as some sort of shining pillar of originality in the carbon-copy genre just because the movie revolves around a prom. This may be true for the setting, but aside from that, Dance of the Dead repeated every single zombie cliché known to man. The jokes are all stereotypical clichés (example: the gym teacher). The situations are all cliché (example: the romantic subplots). And if the movie was oh-so-original, couldn’t at least think of ANYTHING more creative than a power plant as the source of the zombies? I mean, for once, in a “horror-comedy”, can’t zombies become zombies from eating bad soup or something? As I said, beyond the setting, Dance of the Dead has no originality, or even creativity.
The overall film also lacks polish to an unbearable degree. It’s filmed like a made-for-TV movie (for one of the kid’s channels) and the acting ranges from decent to downright painful to watch. I’d go as far as to say the acting is harder to watch than the gore. Why? Because another thing Dance of the Dead lacked was gore. While a kill happens on screen, the camera is off staring at the wall, or some flowers, or a passing car, but never on the gore itself. Never. When a kill does (rarely) happen on screen, there is no blood. This happens more than once. A zombie’s head in cleaved in two, yet there is NO blood. What is up with the conservative use of gore? This is a zombie movie. I want gore. Not the camera looking at cars.
But the biggest problem I had with Dance of the Dead was the lack of entertainment value. I give it credit for being at least slightly more energetic and fast-paced than the average zombie movie, which are almost all synonymous with: “Let’s slow down for grandpa; he just had hip surgery.” But other than the slight energy, the action scenes are few and far between. The movie had me so bored I had to watch it in two separate viewings, desperate for anything to start happening whatsoever. 75% of the run-time is nothing but teenagers being forced to act like fake, politically correct, cliché teenagers. What is the point of a zombie movie if it’s not entertaining . . .? I once loved zombie movies, and though this new sweep of pathetic zombie movies can’t make real zombie movies any less enjoyable, it’s sad to see zombies treated so poorly and uncreatively.
Overall, while Dance of the Dead isn’t a completely bad movie, it’s the one thing I despise more than anything else: FORGETTABLE. You know, I was told prom was going to be the night I was never going to forget: so I stayed home and watched Kill Bill and ate left overs. That was a night I never forgot. But everyone who did go to prom in my class completely forgot about it by a week later. I was so glad I didn’t waste my time. I think that’s a lot like Dance of the Dead. People told me it would be the most awesome zombie movie in years, yet when I watched it I saw a waste of time. Take my advice: don’t watch Dance of the Dead. Like prom, it isn’t memorable. At all. It’s a waste of time and money.
B movie goregasims extravaganza the first twenty minutes were lame but baby does the last hour and ten minutes make up for that. This movie was the bees knees son
Move over Eden Lake! Dance of the Dead is now my favorite movie I’ve seen this year! It is the best zombie film I’ve seen since Shaun of the Dead. It’s heartwarming, funny, and GORY. Everyone is a believablr character and are completely relatable. It seems impossible that someone could watch this movie and not relate to at least one character. If you really want to see this movie, don’t listen to all that haters that have posted reviews here. Watch it, and I promise you, that you will be completely satisfied. And please, Gregg Bishop, bring on a sequel!
one of the better movies i’ve seen in sometime a must see
pretty cool
holy hype people this movie sucked ass!
It’s just like a real school dance! One half boring, one half fun, funny, really overrated, stupid people who just annoy you, good friends, good times, beer, love, and mayhem at school. Mixed reviews on this one. Not for the hardcores, but if you like those Saturday nite thrillers..well, breakfast is served people. Oh yes, it is served.
cool. classic grindhouse film.
This movie is amazing, filled with zombies and loads of gore. I didn’t know what to expect from this movie and it turned out it is way better then I thought. I recommend anyone who enjoys zombie movies to check this one out.
Actually not a bad film at all. Rented it not expecting much, but it was really good!
pretty awesome zombie flick. one of the best/most exciting scenes i’ve seen lately took place in the graveyard with the zombies literally bursrting from the ground. pretty awesome stuff. some great gore effects too and nice characters. acting is weak in some spots but all together a really awesome zombie movie
Pretty much an american version of Shaun of the Dead as far a Zombie Comedies go. Although the story lines are completely different. This film, was also hilarious and a worthy addition to your library. Think shaun of the dead mixed with Return of the Living dead.
Very enjoyable, fun to watch. First time I’ve seen zombies subdued by heavy metal music. Pretty good looking FX, actors, and filmmaking – does not come off as low budget.
While this film isn’t as good as Shaun of the Dead, it certainly reminded me of when i saw it back in 2004. I was so happy to see the zombie genre with a new spin. Sure, zombie films by default aren’t “original”, but what this film did with that said staple is original. I’ve never seen a zombie movie take place at a prom before. There were certain cliches, sure, but it was still a great, fun filled movie.
The acting was great. There are newer actors in this film, and what they pulled off was pretty impressive.
For a low budget film, they did a pretty amazing job with what little resources they had. Sure, the fx were cheesey at times, but overall, they were still believable, and added to the humor of the film. (Mitch’s severed head)
Overall, appreciate this film for what it is; a great, low budget piece of work!
this movie is a part of a new movement in horror…that movement is to make funny horror films. while most of these movies suck and are horrible…this one actually achieves this fate and it is now elevated to a “god” status amongst those movies…
Being an HUGE fan of zombie flicks and comedy. I’d say this movie was over hyped and I didn’t enjoy it as much as I was lead to believe. It was terrible or even poorly done… I didn’t think the gore was up to par and wasn’t even that funnhy… See it for yourself
Another great addition to the comedy zombie films. This movie is great although not being a big budget film.
The actors do a great job, The story line is great!
Definately one to check out
I do not recall who coined the term “zomedy” but I must say that this zomedy ranks right up there (perhaps not JUST as good) as Shawn of the Dead. It contains the angst of teenage frustration and the “let it all out” hyperkinetic action that can be seen in teenage action films of the 80s. This is a film that I think SHOULD have been made in the 80s, yet still contains a universal theme.
Perhaps I am reading too much into this film, but it is fun and can be quite mindless to watch. A critic can analyze this film to death (I know because I have done it), but its true strength is the ability to watch it, laugh, and get freaked out all at the same time. It isn’t perfect by any means. The acting is a bit stilted (and by two characters OVER-ACTING). There are inconsistancies and you do find yourself questioning the rationale of some of the characters. However, if you go in for bloody fun, this will keep you laughing (and gasping).
Fucking retarded!
im a huge zombie fan and even though this isnt the best zombie film ever made (28 days later)
it is still a pretty good one at that.
it adds comedy while blood is gushing everywhere and i like that in a zombie film.
maybe something you should rent instead of going out and buying.
really fun zombie movie.
really fun zombie movie.
really fun zombie movie.
I don’t believe in hype, but when Tex Massacre raved about this film on the year-end episode of the podcast I thought, “Well, I’ll check it out, but I am not going to expect anything special.” I didn’t rent it, I bought it, which is something I have a bad habit of doing, but it’s worked in the past. After getting home and watching it, once the film ended I found myself hitting play again. This film is absolutely fantastic. For every laugh there is an ounce of blood to follow, and there is plenty of both. I have watched this film at least ten times since the initial first viewing and have forced it upon friends who have also loved the hell out of it. If you’re a fan of zombie films, John Hughes films, or both, then you will love this film. It is an absolute winner!
A horribly boring attempt at a horror comedy.
Just about everything is wrong here, the jokes are not funny (I didn’t laugh once), the actors are really bad even compared to an average horror film. Shaun of the dead excels in every department over this piece of turd. Maybe if I was 10 I would have gotten something out of this.
An solid horror/comedy about zombies that go on a killing spree which happens to be on prom night for a small town. I think this is the most entertaining zombie film I have seen in a couple of years and to me beats the hell out of Shaun Of The Dead. Almost every character in this movie was likable and was fun seeing them kick @ss. There is plenty of gory moments in this movie to please fans of the genre and was very fast paced, so you won’t be bored here. My one complaint was the ending because you really didn’t get to see the aftermath of this, so hopefully there is a sequel in the works. Overall one of the best zombie/horror/comedies I have seen and the best so far of Ghost House Underground DVDs. Recommended!
its alright, a decent flick
I thought this was really good. Very funny. Do not take this movie serious because its not meant to be. Fun flick.
If you haven’t turned it off in the first 5 minutes, you’ve fallen asleep in disappointment.
A fairly solid entry into the zombie comedy department of film. While some of the acting may be subpar, overall the film is a fun diversion for the duration of the running time.
very fun movie. fast-paced and fairly well-written, it def kept me entertained!
watch it if you like zombies!
Dance Of The Dead is now one my favorite Zombie films.
It works on every level. The humor is so cleverly done and the story is excellent.I am not a huge zombie film fan although I do love a few, but I could watch this over and over.It has so much entertainment value. The characters are awesome.
The acting is great, the one liners made me LMAO..
and the gore was off the chain.Outcasts really do make the best zombie killers and let’s hope these misfits get to the prom before the student body is turned into student bodies. The character of Kyle “the school bully” was a treat to watch and the coach was great also.
Do yourself a favor and buy this movie. If you like dark comedy and horror you will be talking about this film for awhile..
loved it
Wow! This movie was a lot of fun! Dance of the Dead is destined to be a cult classic.
A very slick movie with great acting, dialogue, photography, f/x, editing; everything! One requirement for a cult movie is: it has to be quotable. I’m not going to ruin the movie for the potential viewer but know that this has many funny, quotable lines.
Dance of the Dead is hilarious! Its like Judd Apatow and Sam Raimi made a zombie movie. I will go so far as to say that Dance of the Dead has more entertainment value than Raimi’s own Evil Dead II. Very, very funny.
The zombies are way cool. They burst out of their graves. I mean blast out! These are mostly fast moving, aggressive zombies. Although, some of them move slow. Zombie make-up that rivals the Dawn of the Dead (remake). Gruesome gore shots. No punches are pulled; this is way over the top in the gore department.
Let me say that this is not a spoof or satire. This is a real deal horror movie. It is just hilarious as well. Rent it for a great time!
I don’t get all the hype. Did we see that same movie. The characters sucked and it wasn’t funny. Im shocked MTV didn’t make this piece of shit.
Normally I go on for a long time in my movie reviews but the best way to describe the rating has already been said 1000 times before me in these reviews:
“This is a fun movie.”
That’s all that needs to be said.
One of my favorite horror movies in recent times!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There is a long and storied history of horror movies dedicated to evil kids. The original 1960 “Village of the Damned” set the standard and other movies such as “The Bad Seed”, “The Omen” and most recently “Joshua” and “Orphan”. Many have been remade and studios keep churning them out.
Tom Shanksland’s 2008 film “The Children” follows two related families as they celebrate Christmas. Both are upper class modern British families that can be a little annoying at times but the plot is grounded by a sort of twisted reality. This film and all other evil kid movies always pose the same question. Under the circumstances, could you kill your own children?
We never really get an explanation as to how and why the kids turn on the adults, but upon arrival at the relatives house one of the children gets sick. This doesn’t raise any alarms as kids do get sick a lot. Never underestimate the power of a prolonged blank stare of child to really creep you out. All of the kids eventually get sick and turn a family dinner into one big tantrum. After this “accidents” start happening. The cat goes missing; one of the parents is KO’d by a runaway sled. The kids start to take over and the parents lose there ability to control their own kids (if they ever had it to begin with). These kids need some serious discipline, but the parents refuse to slap them around an put them in there place. As things really start to get bad, the parents all seem to be in a state of denial and are powerless to take any action. One of the mothers is lured onto the money bars and eventually falls backwards and breaks her leg. The compound fracture as I mentioned in a previous review is just about the most gruesome injury I can think of. The adults and teenage daughter seem to be unaffected by this “virus” or whatever the kids have been passing around. The teen girl seems to be the only one that takes care of business when it comes to the disposal of these evil little bastards.
What is really disturbing is how the kids manipulate their parents into there doom. I don’t have kids but I can see how no parent can resist the cries of their kids even if it means they want to kill you. The ending is somewhat confusing, but all in all “The Children” is a pretty decent film. Its well made and acted for the most part as compared to “Offspring” in my last review.
one of my horror movie.
I had to turn this off after 15 minutes.
Funny and smart movie.Good to great special effects. The Acting was pitch perfect for the genere!Fans of campy Zombie flicks will not be dissapointed.Hope we get a sequel!
Im glad this one was a dark comedy, otherwise, it would have been terrible. The comedy came over as delectable little quims some of the characters would say during the blood soaked carnage
I had a fun time with this movie. It covered everything in what you might find “Cheesy” in classic zombie films, they characters did just about everything wrong, but in humorous succession. It was very good, I would watch this again.
LOVED IT!!!!..This was a really fun silly kind of movie. It had gore galore, a few laughs and silliness, and even a few jumps!!.Its a teeny bopper zombie flick where the nerds overcome. This is definetely a great flick to watch with friends. no boring parts the whole thing was fun, especially the zombie love scene!!!…
This movie has that instant classic feel. There will be a time where these spoof type movies don’t have such an impact. For this movie, now is not that time. I love how every type of high school kid is displayed here and we get to see the majority of them killed. Timed editing and music can make films like these work.
Unoriginal, uninspired, and unfunny. Feels like you’re watching an episode of Degrassi, and a bunch of zombies come in. Honestly have NO idea why people are giving it such good reviews. Oh well, there’s a lot of dumb people out there. More details here:
http://thewolfmancometh.com/2010/08/09/dance-of-the-dead-2008/
Slightly above average but nothing worth raving over. It’s worth a watch but I’d advise renting this one, it’s not worth buying.
Didn’t think much of Dance in the first viewing, but got the complete fun vibe of it the second time around. Just make it through a bit of beginning and this thing takes off with zombies-on-speed (purists won’t like that, but it was cool), humorous gore-kills, and pretty much non stop action. Polarized reviews on this–either worshipped or hated, but I’ll take the positive middle road and say that if not taken seriously this is a good-time horror flick and a keeper.
fun movie to watch, but honestly not very good at all.
Arg crap.
Pretty fun movie to watch. When this film came out on dvd, other Ghost House films were coming out and they were just awful, but I’m glad I picked this one up. Good zombie film with some humor…and an excellent cast.
This film was crap. I have NO clue how the official score is 5 skulls.
I should see this movie agian, as i have on;y seen it once, i liked it first time i saw it, it was really fun.
It’s not that good… really. It’s worth picking up for like $3 – $5 but thats about it.
a poor attempt at a zomedy,…dont believe the hype…its basically like watching an after school special with some crappy zombies
1st of all let me say that I LOVE zombie movies, even most of the cheesy B-zombie movies have some type of redeeming qualities that I can give credit for…
This is just not a good zomedy. I laughed maybe once or twice during the entire film. The kills weren’t even fun or interesting to watch.
I suggest you pass on this one unless your’e a zombie movie completist…
ehhh, Watch Tucker and Dale vs Evil…. now that movie is worthy of 100+ skulls!
