Watched it last night! And it was definitely better than I thought it would be. The music and cinematography give it a very interesting tone and feel. Definitely a lot more Sci Fi than Donnie Darko. Just don’t expect the same type of movie as the original and you will enjoy S. Darko.
I know I should have found this to be an abomination, but it’s really not. I was very pleasantly surprised. I definitely didn’t expect to like it so much. I really liked Daveigh Chase here too. My only beef is the finale. It seemed like it was going somewhere else, somewhere better, but it didn’t.
Definitely recommended though. I loved the style.
This movie sucked…. I wanted to really like it. But at the end I just felt it was decent. Nothing to really talk about. Donnie is a must see film. This movie was decent. Very confusing, you tried to think of how everything turns out, and then your like damn it doesn’t work. but I must say Daviegh Chase is fuckin slaming. WOW. I remember when she was in the ring. and thats kind of creepy saying she is freakin hot now. Best thing about this lackluster. I wish they would of ended the movie with the dude not saving them.
This piece of garbage blew donkey chunks on my new sweater. Fuck this movie!!!
I couldn’t believe how bad this was. I was expecting something with originality, and a new spin on the Darko tale. Instead what we got was a mindless rehash of the first film straight down to the priest being a sinner, a trip to the movie theater, a bunny suit and other lazy homage segments to the Richard Kelly classic.
id ont know what to say that hasnt been said. I thought thew film was overall ok, but it def. looked to be a copy of the first, just not as good!
This weird, unneccessary sequel to DD is shockingly good. Amazingly, they found decent music from the ’90s – they even end with the great Cocteau Twins. The cast, cinematography and direction are solid. The many plot point echoes from Donnie are hard to defend, but if you aren’t insanely overprotective of DD you may enjoy s. D. Donnie was a fresh take on several genres; this was bound to feel like a retread. Daveigh and Brianna are no Gyllenhalls but they do a good, if emotionally flat, job. Apart from the career-halting disaster that was Southland Tales, this is your best shot at some more DD goodness, so get out your wallets, true believers.
It’s inevitable that people will despise this movie just cause it’s a sequel to their beloved Donnie Darko.
If you can simply watch it as a stand alone movie and not let your inflated movie ego get in the way, you’ll find that S. Darko is damn good. It’s well written, the cinematography is awesome and although it treads similar territory to it’s predecessor, you are still left with a creepy mystery that’s very satisfying to watch unfold.
By the end there are quite a few things left unanswered, but not in an annoying you want to know what the fuck’s going on sort of way. It still feels very complete and whatever happens is totally acceptable no matter how depressing or convoluted it may be.
Plus the bunny mask looks awesome.
I bought this movie as kind of a blind buy just because it is the sequal to Donnie Darko. It was a decent movie nothing to special in my opinion. Half way through it I almost got the feeling that they were just mocking the orginal, which I know they didn’t mean to do, but I think they did.
Wow. Note that Bloody Disgusting didn’t even review this, after seeing it, I know why. I don’t mind bizarre, strange movies but they DO need to make sense at some point- I swear David Lynch had his hand in this, I didn’t see his name in the credits but I just know he was involved…. if that tells you something- if you dig Lynch-like movies, this is for you. Other than Twin Peaks, I have no use for the man, zip.
Visually, the movie looks good, bunny mask is twisted but that’s about all the kudo’s I can give this.
Spend Saturday night watching Harper’s Island instead, at least there’s a plot.
I was suprised that it was actually pretty good in its own way. Not nearly as good as the first but all in all not too bad of a movie.
the truth is i didnt expect to i actually loved it. The film yes is a blatent rip off but i really liked it anyway but that being said the constant references to donnie darko did get a little anoying but daveigh chase was brilliant and really pulled the part off well, one of the better straight to dvd movies this year go see now
I haven’t seen it yet but I think I kinda want to. And Ive seen reviews so far that are good. I’ll end up renting it first and if I like it I’ll buy. I hope it’s as good as Donnie Darko. The first one
I’m not gonna bother comparing it to Donnie since it’s not as great. This may not be a masterpiece but it is enjoyable, Daveigh Chase is good in it, I liked some of the cast and I also liked some of it’s music. For me it was what I call a satisfying rental.
I realy enjoyed this movie for what it was…not as original like the first one but still holds up.
nice try, but… no. I can’t believe how shitty this movie is.
Who the fuck did the costume, make-up and hair? Seriously. What an absolute atrocity on their behalf. Talk about getting it wrong. Outside of the main character, the rest of the casting was terrible.
What makes this all an absolute shame is that the story is pretty cool. Aesthetically, this movie is just a piece of shit and that kills the story itself.
oh please no
What the fuck. WHAT THE FUCK WAS THIS.
I can’t even..
Why? Why was this made…
I can only say one good thing about this: headbutt.
Tries to be hard-to-understand like Donnie Darko, but this film has just no sense. Boring to death
