Watching Twitter over the past two weeks has been quite interesting. People either seem to love JJ Abrams’ Super 8 or hate it. It’s evolved into an escalation of insults like “I don’t know why they liked/hated it…” The good news is that it has people talking, the bad news is that it isn’t tracking very well. That’s disappointing considering it’s one of the sole movies arriving this summer that isn’t pandering to the franchise crowd. READ MORE
Area 51 gives off more movie ammo than a storage room filled with AK47′s. Just about everyone who is anyone in the science fiction realm has touched upon the Nevada military base with their own story; their own theory into the existence of aliens and the trouble associated with this highly secure area of desert. Super 8 (sneak preview screenings today), one of the summer’s most highly anticipated films, will be crashing its way into theaters this Friday, complete with an array of disappearances, unexplained events, and the inhuman creature that has left moviegoers guessing for months. Though director/writer JJ Abrams’ vision has yet to be seen, one can only wonder what really did come out of that train wreck, praying that it’s more exciting than Cloverfield. READ MORE

As a comic series, I’m not a huge fan of Eric Powell’s The Goon, but I see potential for a fun feature film. We’ve previously been teased with some test images from the David Fincher produced animated adaptation, while today you get your first look at footage that teases its big Comic-Con debut. “The Goon” is the story about the adventures of the Goon, a muscle-bound brawler who claims to be the primary enforcer for the feared mobster Labrazio. The Goon (and his sidekick Franky) often get tied up in other machinations, often in relation to the evil zombie gangs under the command of the Nameless Zombie Priest. Produced by Dark Horse Films, Clancy Brown and Paul Giamatti lend their voices. (more…) READ MORE

Next up is the jammed-packed Friday, July 23 schedule. (more…) READ MORE

Hatchet 2 director Adam Green, possibly the nicest man working in the horror biz today, stopped with his soon-to-be bride Rileah Vanderbilt (‘Young Victor Crowley’ in Hatchet 1 & 2 and ‘Shannon’ in this year’s Frozen) to chat with B-D at the Saturn Awards Thursday night (Frozen was nominated for Best Picture but lost to Drag Me To Hell) and gave us a little more insight into his next directing project, the Chris Columbus-produced Killer Pizza, which according to Green will bring us back to the glory days of kid-friendly ’80s “horror” fare like Monster Squad. Read on for the whole pie. (more…) READ MORE
Short but sweeeet news this afternoon as it was announced that The Goon has been optioned by acclaimed director and producer David Fincher and Academy-Award nominated Blur Studio to develop as a CG animated feature film, according to TheGoon.com. The Goon is a comic book series created by Eric Powell in 1999. The story is about the adventures of the Goon, a muscle-bound brawler who claims to be the primary enforcer for the feared mobster Labrazio. The Goon (and his sidekick Franky) often get tied up in other machinations, often in relation to the evil zombie gangs under the command of the Nameless Zombie Priest. Update: Powell, who broke the news Wednesday on his website, would write the screenplay for “Goon,” and Fincher would produce. (more…) READ MORE
