A must-see Posted By Scurgar on November 27, 2008 @ 7:02 am Log in to Reply ★★★☆☆ I wouldn’t consider this a “great” movie, but it is one of those legendary films that has to be seen. Definitely not for those who are easily offended by brutality against females, but if you’d like to see a decent rape/revenge flick then here you go. It’s just boring and monotonous. Posted By ZombifiedX on November 27, 2008 @ 4:45 pm Log in to Reply ★★★★★ when she cuts the guys cock off in the bathtube, well, that shit got to me. Definitely a cool classic. Posted By PromNight2008 on November 27, 2008 @ 9:48 pm Log in to Reply ★★★★☆ This movie made me cringe. I almost shut it off due to the brutality of what these men do to this woman. It isn’t the greatest film, but it was interesting to watch and a few of the scenes (particularly the rapes) really got to me and were difficult to watch. I would recommend it. But has some gritty scenes that will stick with you after viewing. Great new DVD edition out. Posted By Necronatalusz on February 23, 2009 @ 4:52 pm Log in to Reply ★★★★★ Great movie. Either I am desensitized by violence altogether or the fact that the plot allowed for these individuals to brutally rape someone not once…but 3 times is beyond me! The director was trying to make an artsy fartsy flick and it came up with very long boring shots of nothing. I cannot believe this movie was banned in certain theaters…it should have been banned for being a complete waste of time..i want my 2 hours back! Posted By Quints-Machete on March 12, 2009 @ 2:20 pm Log in to Reply ★★★★☆ One of the classic “video nasties”. I tend to watch this flick & “Last House on the Left” back to back. It has the same intense realism as Last House. After the horrible events that befall our main character, she goes out on a rampage. But she does it with a “spider & the fly” kinda’ method. The kills & violence are very graphic. You really want the villians in this film to get theirs. Not for the sqemish, but a hell of a ride!!! Posted By Guitarded on July 4, 2009 @ 12:45 am Log in to Reply ★★★★☆ MUCH better than the original Last House on the Left, but not quite as good as the remake of the same name. Posted By ghostofhaddonfield78 on October 5, 2009 @ 7:41 am Log in to Reply ★★★☆☆ I Spit On Your Grave is a movie ive been wanting to check out for some time and i finally got around to seeing it. overall i liked it, it wasnt bad at all. it is rather slow moving but thats the point, the rape scene does go on for awhile and gets a little more violent as it goes on and what can i say..its uncomfortable to watch. i thought Camille Keaton (Jennifer, the main girl) did a great job of playing the victim. i didnt like how she goes about getting her revenge though. the bathtub scene was pretty good and it made me squirm but the other deaths were ehhhh. could have been better. if your reading this review then i recommend you check it out, see it once because of the reputation it has recieved over the years…but like me, you might not want to watch it again. Posted By moviewatcher on February 19, 2010 @ 5:23 pm Log in to Reply ★★☆☆☆ Nasty in places but extremely boring in others. With two stand out scenes in the whole movie. The unnecessarily long rape and the bathtub scene, which alone awarded this movies notoriety. Just a dirty piece of pointless celluloid. Last House was far more impressive. In a nutshell, well… just a bit pants really. 3/10 Posted By Hexenkult on April 10, 2010 @ 1:34 am Log in to Reply ★★★★☆ There are many arguments for and against this ’70s cinema shocker. Most claim that it’s just misogynistic trash (and rightly so, though I’m not condemning it – many ’70s exploitation films are just that); and still others claim it’s some sort of feminist manifesto that pushes feminist ideals to the extreme (leading up to some very literal demasculation). However, I really don’t care about any of that. It’s simply a gritty rape/revenge exploitation film, which also happens to be a bonafide, sleazoid grindhouse classic! The story, such that it is, involves Jennifer (Camille Keaton) who takes a trip to the countryside to write her first novel. While sunbathing in her bikini by the river, she attracts the attention of some local yokels on a boat. These same yokels later humiliate and repeatedly gang rape her in the woods (and if that’s not bad enough, one of the hoodlums is mentally retarded, and the others just spur him on – this has the unsettling effect of making an extremely uncomfortable scene even more unbearable). But they’re not done yet. Jennifer finally makes her way home, and they follow her there so they can brutally rape her again. These scumbags would make the inbred hillbilly rapists from Deliverance say “Oh my Gawd, that’s just TOO much!”. The rest of the film is spent showing her bloody and brutal (and audience pleasing) revenge on them. This plotline would be done to death by numerous films throughout the ’70s and ’80s. Another film that treats this same subject matter, but I think is actually superior, is Abel (Driller Killer) Ferrara’s Ms. 45. Posted By Slasher17 on April 17, 2010 @ 3:52 pm Log in to Reply ★★☆☆☆ I don’t have much to say about this movie. The rape scene is way too long, the movie itself is a little too slow for me, and the kills aren’t that great. I love the old cult classics. The 70s and 80s had the best horror movies. But this film is not much, and it’s kinda boring. Posted By skinnedcorpse on April 17, 2010 @ 7:58 pm Log in to Reply ★★☆☆☆ I was disappointed with ”I Spit On Your Grave”. They did a poor job at portraying sexual violence and revenge in a brutal way – its a 1970′s film, but that has nothing to do with the fact that it felt mild and toned down. In one word this film is boring. You can easily get away with fast-forwarding to get to the next killing, its that simple and slooowww that you don’t miss anything. It has its rare cringey moments, but give this one a miss. Not because its unbearably sick or controversial, or anything along those lines, but just because its a poor film. Don’t be mislead by the intriguing title, theres more depraved films than this 90 minutes of bore. 4/10 Posted By MattHorror on April 18, 2010 @ 4:51 am Log in to Reply ★★★☆☆ Classic film hard to watch though becasue of how slow it is. Kills are great rap scenes are meh all up deccent movie for being made in 70′s Posted By Chadinator92 on May 20, 2010 @ 2:37 am Log in to Reply ★★★★☆ It really wasn’t that bad, but it was extremely gruesome! More gruesome than Last House On The Left! Posted By zap451 on May 20, 2010 @ 5:49 am Log in to Reply ★★★☆☆ I hate to admit this, but I think I have become desensitized to this kind of film. Plus, I”m watching it for the first time 31 years after it was released. The rape scenes seemed extreme for its time. Although, I understand why rape scenes would expedite a story, I never really feel they are necessary. It’s uncomfortable. Being scared because of horror is one thing, but rape scenes kill that excitement and just make you depressed. The revenge aspect was interesting, but a little unbelievable. She didn’t seem that intimidating and it seemed to me she was just lucky. I will be curious to see how the remake turns out. Posted By maynardmorrissey on May 28, 2010 @ 12:18 am Log in to Reply ★★★★☆ Unbelievably disturbing, unpleasant and controversial rape-and-revenge cult classic that really fucked me up. If you couldn’t stand watching “Irreversible”… well, then don’t even think of watching this. The rape scenes in here are extremely nasty and very hard to watch, and the revenge scenes are also pretty shocking. Yet, it’s a really brilliant movie, very realistic, original and well-written, with a neat cast (especially Camille Keaton), great tension, wonderful cinematography and a high amount of memorable scenes you definitely will never forget. Posted By Count-Bizarre on August 28, 2010 @ 6:37 am Log in to Reply ★☆☆☆☆ Jesus Christ, this was one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen. With the most boring scenes in the history of cinema, I Spit On Your Grave spents most of its time showing pointless pictures and overly long scenes where the dialog just rapes all interest out of you. Then it comes to the real rape scenes, and oh boy, what a whole bag of shit they were. Not only technically but also estethically they were just overly BAD, nonintense and boring. Then the bitch goes for her revenge and there comes a whole set of “who-would-have-guessed?” scenes that could have been done in ten minutes instead of 30. And then the ending just jumps out of nowhere in your face, just like did the beginning. It just left me with a feeling: “Oh, that was it?” I really cant see where here is the brutality that should be cencored. Am I just too numb to feel it? Posted By TheDurdenBuddha on October 8, 2010 @ 3:26 pm Log in to Reply ★★★☆☆ This is a solid film. Very, emotional (at times) and pretty graphic considering the era it was released. My major gripe is that it moves a little too fast in places where I felt it should’ve been more calculating and deliberate. Also there is a bit of suspended disbelief surrounding certain sequences. But there’s some very intense stuff here and I think it really set a precendent on how to shoot some of these really intense scenes. Posted By Morthalius on October 11, 2010 @ 9:46 pm Log in to Reply ★★★★☆ One of the best revenge flicks out there to this day. Posted By weasel-corpse-666 on October 22, 2010 @ 1:05 am Log in to Reply ★★★★☆ I think this movie holds the test of time and still has shock value. I guess rape will always be a disturbing subject as it should be. im not a huge fan of all these fucking remakes that keep coming out every damn week but i am interested in seeing how they pull this one off. Posted By zuggernaught on October 23, 2010 @ 1:25 pm Log in to Reply ★☆☆☆☆ Should be listed as a comedy! I bought this film because of the girls ass on the cover. The movie itself is a complete joke, BUT IF YOU WATCH IT WITH THE COMMENTARY WITH JOE BOB BRIGGS YOU WILL LAUGH YOUR ASS OFF! I know, I know, give the subject manner of the film, funny shouldn’t be mentioned but really the acting and rape scenes were so badly done, you can’t help but laugh and laugh hard. Like I said this movie is a stinker in every sense, and I was going to throw it in the trash bin till I watched it with the commentary, then and only then did this pile of shit come together. Posted By murdermakesmecum on December 11, 2010 @ 2:37 am Log in to Reply ★★★☆☆ an ok movie. the rape scenes were a little uncomfortable, but not bad. lot of slow parts, kill scenes weren’t all that good. i did like the tub scene though. you should see it if you haven’t already. just keep in mind that it came out like 30 some yrs. ago. Posted By Tico-P on December 14, 2010 @ 3:00 am Log in to Reply ★★★☆☆ A very unpleasant rape and revenge film about a writer seeking peace in the country side to write her next novel. Of course she runs into the local hillbillies and gets gang raped by all four of them. The rest you can probably figure out yourself. This was made 30 years ago and stirred up a big stink of controversy banning it in most countries worldwide, turning this into a video nasty classic. Believe it or not this is regarded as a cult movie classic among feminists. The acting is awful and production values stink a mile away. Still a brave film from the era of guerrilla film making. Strong stomachs required, so don’t put this on if you are on first date trying to get laid. Also known as “Day of the Woman”, and definitely so, as the Heroine turns the cards on her tormentors. Most male viewers will be dry heaving thanks to the infamous bath tub scene. Sick stuff for those interested. Best viewed intoxicated to get over it. Posted By CapsulesnCoffee on February 3, 2011 @ 3:43 pm Log in to Reply ★★★★☆ One of the gnarliest rape/revenge flicks you’ll find. It’s perversely entertaining in the same way Cannibal Holocaust was(though its much less explicit). The whole movie has a certain kind of power to it; you feel for the victim which makes the revenge half of the movie all the more visceral. That being said the actual revenge scenes are surprisingly non-graphic and somewhat disappointing; the exception being the infamous bathtub scene which has to be one of the most memorable and horrific kills i’ve ever witnessed. Posted By LoneWolfx on February 5, 2011 @ 10:37 pm Log in to Reply ★★★★★ Classic revenge film. Posted By Hengst2404 on February 12, 2011 @ 9:07 pm Log in to Reply ★★★★☆ To see this movie in 2011, after having seen countless horror films and rape/revenge type films, I must say I was still a bit shocked. This movie is brutal in nearly every sense of the word. The young woman is not just raped, but physically and psychologically assaulted for hours and easily almost 40 minutes of film time. Her assault and then recovery, followed by her vengeance are all very hard to watch. To think that this was done back in 1978 and done in such a way as to nearly invalidate every movie of its type that has followed. In fact, I put this one ahead of Last Door on the Left for the way it maintains itself throughout the story. While the acting i merely adequate and you will find yourself often questioning the actions of the all of the characters, this one works on shock value alone. This is the very definition of exploitation/shock cinema. This movie will either be very good for horror fans or outright hated and I cannot say that either side is really all that wrong. Classic in every sense of the word horror. Posted By The-apathetic-viewer on April 4, 2011 @ 3:36 pm Log in to Reply ★★★★☆ Just bought this yesterday because I colud’nt find girl next door.Wow was I surprised.I was expecting a typical slasher with over the top gore but I can say now I got more than what I payed for. Getting that out of the way I felt this film was a great flick that didn’t seemed to follow traditional slasher B.S.(can I swear here?)The lack of soundtrack really adds to the feel as does the little blood creating what is frighting not because of its effects or killer but utter frankness and reality this film portrays. Posted By DisturbedAsylum1000 on June 15, 2011 @ 9:23 am Log in to Reply ★★★☆☆ With this film I felt that it lacked something. It was a really good film. I knew alot about it and knew it was a rape/revenge film. It’s a good film but it had some flaws. For instance the revenge went by too quick and the rape scene was way too long indeed. There should’ve been more revenge. Thats one of the reasons I like the remake more because the revenge doesnt go by as fast. Anyway to conclude this review if you like rape/revenge films go for it. Posted By xXGothicKillerxX on July 19, 2011 @ 1:47 am Log in to Reply ★★★★★ This movie is… well… disturbing in many ways(aka rape and dick cutting). I can totally see why this movie is banned in some countries, it contains brutal rape and torture. The rape scene(s) in this were just…WOW and HOLY SH*T, HOW CAN THEY PUT THAT IN A MOVIE!!?! The revenge in this is… pleasing to say the least, but when the bathtub scene popped up…..my hands went to protect mode:/ Anyway, this was a really good film. 9.1 out of 10 Posted By Midnitekrawlr on September 20, 2011 @ 3:43 am Log in to Reply ★★★★★ A childhood favorite of mine that still holds up! Posted By Chris from Rockport Review on March 19, 2012 @ 11:11 pm Log in to Reply ★★★★★ For more reviews visit http://www.RockportFilm.com This notorious exploitation flick from the late 70âe(TM)s is a rip roaring feminist revenge film with extra girl power to spare. Directed by Meir Zarchi and starring Camille Keaton (granddaughter of Buster) this movie delights in mercilessly brutalizing its characters and the viewers. It tells the story of Jennifer Hills, an independent New York City woman who rents a vacation home out in the country to write her first novel. Upon arriving in âeoeHicksvilleâe , USA she is greeted by three lowlife locals and a retarded man who delivers her groceries. The men decide to play with their new friend, and it would be safe to say that they donâe(TM)t play very nice. Over about a 20-25 minute period Jennifer is harassed, repeatedly raped, and left for dead. That would be putting it mildly as the brutality has a documentary like feel with nothing held back. Keaton gives a courageous performance that required a lot from her. The physical and mental strain of this role is enormous. After her ordeal she limps and crawls back to her cabin only to find the men waiting for her and is subjected to one final desecration. After she heals her physical injuries she starts to plot her revenge. Itâe(TM)s like she is reborn as a woman on a mission and possibly a little crazy. She calmly and coolly plots and carries out her revenge on the four men who attacked her. The four perpetrators are your stereotypical country folk just about on par with those of âeoeDeliveranceâe . They seem to have no moral center or conscious for that matter. While the only one that holds back is Michael, the retarded guy, but he finally gives in and takes a turn. Jennifer uses her body and sexuality to get her revenge on the guys who actually go along with it. The men in this movie are dumber than the trees in the forest and are portrayed as savage beasts only interested in fulfilling their basic human desires. Jennifer might have had a sort of mental break from reality as she kills the four guys in such an icy cold manner itâe(TM)s quite disturbing. This movie has been serving up controversy for over 30 years and is still shocking today. A remake was released in 2010, but this is a film that could never regain its original brilliance. Just like every other remade and âeoerebootedâe horror movie, it just canâe(TM)t compare to the original and it is only around to cash in on the original.
