This movie is mediocre. It failed to make me care about the story. Which I think is the biggest insult to a movie. It never captured me. I like how they make Poe look like a good guy. And John Cusack plays a good Poe.
The movie thought its audience was too slow to keep up. There were way too many shots which were added with the sole purpose of double (and sometimes triple) checking that you understood something was scary or sad. The villain felt cheap and not entirely logical. Cusack made a good “sad Poe” and “drunk Poe” but a cartoon-ish “angry Poe.”
The best crime, mystery, thriller that has come out in the last 5 years. Its a joy to watch with a great director, great cast, and great story. It makes Poe’s poems come to life and is a great film. If you love who did it flicks DONT MISS THIS ONE!
