Take The Expanded Ultimate Horror Challenge!!! How Do You Rank Now?

We have heard your cries! MANY of you felt that the The Ultimate Horror Challenge wasn’t comprehensive enough! So we included an additional 20 films that round it out a bit more. Many of these are from your suggestions! But this still isn’t a list of every horror movie ever made. And it still doesn’t contain every major work of every horror auteur (there’s still no John Carpenter’s They Live or Wes Craven’s The Last House On The Left). READ MORE

Take The Ultimate Horror Challenge!!! What’s Your Score?

This isn’t a list of every horror movie ever made. Nor does it contain every major work of every horror auteur (you’ll notice we didn’t include John Carpenter’s They Live or Wes Craven’s The Last House On The Left). Rather, this is a compendium of films that we feel – in one way or another – are essential viewing for every horror fan. Some are mainstream (Poltergeist), some aren’t (Cannibal Holocaust). It’s a broad sampling of key films from the genre. READ MORE

Bloody Disgusting’s List of ‘Horror Unmakes’!

One of the most infamous remakes of all time is Gus Van Sant’s pointless shot-by-shot interpretation of Psycho, which was released to a horde of “why did they bother?” admonishments and an almost complete lack of interest from the general public. Putting aside the relative merits of the film’s technical aspects, the update is generally regarded as a badly failed experiment and, perhaps even worse, an empty exercise on the part of a filmmaker too wrapped up in his own indulgences. Bring on the Gore: Top Ten Practical Effects in Horror!

In 1984, a horror icon was born by the name of Freddy Krueger, in Wes Craven’s landmark horror classic A Nightmare on Elm Street. Key to the film’s success was the special makeup effects work by David B. Miller, who created the celebrated dream-stalker’s gruesome visage. It is this sort of practical effects work that has largely (and regrettably) been discarded in modern filmmaking, but any true horror fan knows there’s nothing more satisfying than some good, in-camera gruesomeness. In anticipation of the Nightmare reimagining being released by Warner Bros. on April 30th (with a new look for Freddy by special makeup effects man Andy Clement), take a look back with us at some of the other top practical effects jobs in horror history. Top 10 Worst Things That Could’ve Been in Brundle’s Machine… Besides a Fly

I think we can all agree that even as horror movie characters go, Seth Brundle got a pretty raw deal. Brilliant scientist, hot girlfriend, thought he was about to change the world with the most revolutionary invention since the wheel. But things didn’t turn out so well for Dr. Brundle in the 1986 classic The Fly, did they? Yet believe it or not, it could’ve been worse. Brundle’s downfall came because a fly happened to wander into his teleportation pod and merge its DNA with his. But there are a lot of other things that could’ve accidentally been in that pod. Here are the top ten worst of them… (more…) READ MORE
