not the first, but a respectable sequel give it a go if u liked the first one.
The opening kill is great and dewey really stands out as a great character.Sadly but also ballsy kill with randy.
I LOVE THEM ALL! But 2 is the weakest in my opinion. It seem’s too drawn out at times and not enough action or suspense that is until the end when it starts off with gale and dewey in the school and gale being chased around! that rocked and billy’s mother is still my favorite killer out of the three films…..played amazingly by Laurie Metcalfe. The rest of it just falls beyond expectation after seeing the first film! We all know Jada and Omar are gonna bite it in the theater, we all know Sarah Michelle will get it but we never expected Randy!!! That was shocking! I love things about it.Mainly the last 30 minutes. So yes it’s worthy and a good movie alone but not any where near that of the first or third! Still one of my favorite films….my 3rd favorite!
Just Ok…
A good sequel with a well thought out plot
Definately a cut above the rest as far as sequels go. Not as smart as the original. It seems like Sarah Michelle Gellar’s death was completely random. Decent, though. Courtney Cox’s chase scene is the highlight of this flick!
Scream is a fun movie to watch. I enjoy thinking, and this is a slasher flick to get one to use their brain. Slashers aren’t normally this complex. Throughout the film you are guessing. “That guy is the one! “He’s wearing the same shoes as him!” Etc. Etc. Etc.
Scream 2 is not a trashy sequel. It’s not as fresh as the original, but is highly entertaining. It begins where Scream left off. After the previous killings from the first film, a book is written by Gale Weathers, a news reporter from the last movie. Then a movie hits the theaters. About what? The first film! It’s a movie within a movie.
There are many cameos and stars, including Courteney Cox as Gale, Neve Campbell, Tori Spelling, Jamie Kennedy, Jada Pinkett Smith, and even Sarah Michelle Gellar. This makes Scream that much more amusing.
The central plot revolves around “Stab,” the movie about the first film. Convinced the killings will stop, everyone believes the terror is over. They are wrong. When more brutal, sadistic acts begin again around the set of the movie “Stab,” they now know the person in the robe and mask is back.
There is no spectacular acing here. Nothing special. Just multiple scenes old fashioned dismemberment. But that’s not what makes the movie great. What makes it great is the complexity of the characters. It’s not just kissing, killing, and crying. It’s one big game of “Clue.” And that’s the way I like it.
out of the three screams this one is by fay the worst…the first was good, but the other two lacked a lot of good scary moments…can someone also explain why all the deaths are PG?
Although not as good as the first, it is an OK sequel. It lacks the same quality as the first; the opening isn’t quite as good and it doesn’t grab your attention throughout like the first. It is clever though and all the chracters are loveable and not like your ordinary cardboard characters who you don’t give a piss about if they die! YOur be guessing who the killer is ’till the end and you won’t expect it!
Overall fun! But not quite as fun as the first
I would have to say that this one was one of my favorite one I though it was good, it was enjoyable to watch it didn’t disapointed me it really impressed me I LOVED IT
I Thinks i Prefare This To The Origional I feel It Is Much Funner But That Being Said It Only Surpasses It Origional By A Slight Fraction I Also Love Scream 3!!!!!!If You Ever Wanna Have A Fun Date Or Evening With Your Girlfriend Rent The Scream Seriers And Get Ready For The Thrill Ride Of Your Life All Though Im Shure Its Nothing Compared To What Follows In The Bedroom Afterwords =)
I think I prefare this to the origional I feel it is much funnier, but that being said it only surpasses its origional by a slight fraction I also love Scream 3!!!!!!.If you ever wanna have a fun date or evening with your girlfriend rent the scream seriers and get ready for the thrill ride of your life all though im shure its nothing compared to what follows in the bedroom afterwords. =)
After rewatching this just a couple weeks ago, I have to say that this was the perfect sequel to Scream. It couldn’t have been any better. The thing I love about these movies is that when each character dies, you feel sympathy for each and every one of them. I admit, the ending is a little drawn out, but the trip getting there is an amazingly fun ride that will have you laughing and screaming at the television screen.
Not often is a sequel as good as this one. I thought this would ruin the Scream franchise, but it didn’t. Yes, it isn’t as good in some aspects, but it’s solid enough to get my 8/10 rating. Scream 2 isn’t a sequel, as I see it. It’s a extension of the first. Not a sequel. Nothing has changed much since the events of Scream, and Scream 2 is fresh and original. There is a acting issue, with some stupid women running around the place with fake boobs and too much makeup. But, the fact remains, this is a solid slasher movie. There isn’t as much gore this time, but I suppose the unique character Scream, with the evil white mask that has become such a icon on those Halloween nights, is back and ready to kill! The deaths are pretty decent, some good screams and a range of great set pieces. The plot is simple, but well thought through again, with a good line up of characters that make you actually watch it, not ignore it.
Overall, Scream 2 is a great, solid sequel, with great, gory deaths to make up for the crummy acting. Don’t expect aspects from the first, but there is something there that stands out.
8/10
great movie
Undoubtedly on, perhaps, purpose this sequel is as strong as the original, if not stronger. Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson team up successfully a second time… screaming further self-confidence and clever parody while providing elevated self-irony to a noticable smiling level. Evidently on purpose part two, the occurence of violence and victims as well as coarse language have been increased, intentionally facilitating the presentation as crueler, and therefore more successful.
Right off the bat, I have to admit that I am biased with this review. When Scream came out in 96 I was hooked and when I found out that Scream 2 would be filming in Atlanta summer of 1997, I was too excited for words. I was on set for a week at the campus of Agnes Scott College getting autographs and watching scenes filmed. It was one of my first times visiting a movie set and from then on out I have been working my way toward a career in tv/film production. So ths is a review, now lets get back to it. Scream 2 is a frightening and smart slasher flick. Just like the first. Smart slasher flick? Yes! The film opens in a theather playing “Stab” which is the movie within the movie based on Gale Weathers book which in turn is based on the events of the first Scream. This is fun concept that is sprinkled throughout the film and is further explored in Scream 3. Again we get more character development which takes this film beyond what most slasher sequels ever accomplish. It has a wonderful cast, visual style, wit (in which they mock how much sequels suck), and most importantly pathos. You actually care for these characters.
Good Movie but the first is the best
wow, this was actually a lot better than the first, although that’s only my opinion.
the copycat killer is a little more thrilling because the more victims of the same name as the victims of the first movie were getting killed off, the closer he’d get to Sidney Prescott.
i had never expected Debbie Salt to be the killer, but…oops! i gave away the killer! then again, it doesn’t matter because people can only give their opinions if they’ve seen the goddamn flick!
but oh well, this franchise is getting better, and i hope it keeps getting better (it has to end sometime)!
not as good as the original, but the movie was fun and entertaining.
pretty good.
amazing sequel!!!! love it!!! would not have it any other way!!! sidney is amaazing in this!!! i loved cici’s kill!!! you wish it was ted!!!!!!
Gotta love the scream serie’s. Reviewing the 3 movies i always found scream 2 the most inferior movie of the serie’s. BUT after another view i rate this movie 2nd best, why? i can,t point my finger on it..beauty comes with age perhaps?
Mehhhhh
A well done sequel, some people have complained about the killer but I thought it was a good choice and made perfect sense. A must see for fans of the scream series.
It’s a good sequel & a must see if your a fan of the series.
…I saw this in the movie theater. i took my mom to see it with me lol. My heart beat and excitment was peeking as the title flashes across the screen.Breathtaking opening sequence. I love it part2. It was entertaining only cuase of the cool characters from the first film. This one seemed to be filled with much more tension. WATCH it!
Scream 2 is a great follow-up to the iconic original and even doubles the body count and the scares. While it isn’t as great as its predecessor, it’s pretty close. The movie is fun, entertaining, frightening, and shocking. If you liked the original, you’ll like this one. I actually think the acting here is better and the movie runs on a faster pace. The kills are very bloody and pretty unique. The twelve minute opening alone is cringe-inducing, and I mean that in a good way. While one nitpick of mine was that this film didn’t balance out the scares and laughs. This one missed the laughs and wit the original had. Well, it’s a sequel, what do you expect? Scream 2 is a solid installment in the trilogy and doubles the body count, the scares, and the characters. Check it out.
pretty awesome.best in the series.
A really good sequel with more kills and more laughs!
i loved this movie!!!
Good sequel but still nothing special.
Great great sequel.
SPOILERS FOLLOW
Only one little complaint… it would have been cool if the black camera guy came back at the climax and shot Loomis’s mom and looked at Courtney Cox and was like… “you point.. I shoot.” JUST LIKE SHE TOLD HIM AT THE BEGINNING WITH THE CAMERA. THAT WOULD BE SO GODDAMN CLEVER and it would also tie into the whole “black people not represented in horror” thing mentioned in the beginning by the doctor from ER and his girlfriend.
Just sayin that would have been cool.
SPOILERS OVER.
But yeah a great sequel… more laughs… more kills… and great tension. Can’t wait for Scream 4.
Bland is the perfect word to describe this cash-cow sequel. The characters from the first one are back and are still likable. But the new characters are boring, and this film just isn’t all that scary. The soundtrack is only okay and there is a lot less suspense. The ending is crap and the who-done-it wasn’t as great as the first.
The movie isn’t terrible though. It was still very enjoyable and very entertaining and it was nice to see Sidney, Gale, and Randy again. Dewey, although, annoyed me in this round. They should’ve left him dead in the first one when I loved him and found him endearing. Plus, the opening scene is nifty even if it did leave open a WIDE plot hole. And there are at least two GREAT suspenseful scenes in the film (Gale’s chase/stalk scene and Sidney and Hallie trying to get out of the car).
Overall this sequel should’ve been better.
Just go out and watch the first one again.
I wrote a long review on the first one since I figured it was probably my favorite horror movie and horror movie series next to Saw. Pretty solid sequel!! Loved the cast, characters, and writing, the only thing I THINK that SHOULD have been changed was the decision to kill of Randy. Seriously.
loveee it
I loved this movie. coming off the success of the original, Wes Craven and Co. pull off a sequel that in my sense, better thsan the original. Yet again, the acting is great and the characters are all likable. The opening scene starring Will Smith’s wife is a great way to open up and really sets the rest of the film uup for a suspenseful second chapter. In viewing the film, i thought that it was very smart if not smarter than the original. whating it over again, you can actually tell who the killer is through several clues but for someone who watches it the first time, its completely unexpected. Like i said, better than the original. Only reason i give this a 9 is because they killed off Randy (fav character)
i wasnt a big fan of this one i liked number 2 more:)
i wasnt a big fan of this one i liked number 2 more:)
The best of the series!
At first glance it must be a difficult thing making a follow up to a film like Scream, a sequel looks destined to become generic because one of the reasons Scream succeeded was its novelty factor which a sequel wouldn’t have that much of. But if you look a little closer at the prospect of what Scream set out to do something will click, they can satirise sequels which are copious in the world of horror. It feels like a fresh idea, ripe for the picking if you will, and the fact that the sequel in itself is trying to be ironic is the reason why it succeeds just the same as the first, that and the return of the major cast members, wit, self-awareness and of course referencing. You get the picture.
The film follows Sydney two years after the tragic events in Woodsboro. She and Randy are trying to get on with their lives in whilst studying at College, Cotton Weary is out of Jail and is trying to cash in the events, Gale Weathers has written a bestselling novel about the events which has then in turn been made into the film “Stab” aptly starring Tory Spelling as Sydney and just to make it that much more stressful for Sydney someone has taken their love for sequels too far (to quote the tagline) but luckily for her she has Dewey to protect her from the copycat killer. But is that enough?
Neve Campbell is still spot on with her portrayal of Sydney, it must such a hard thing to portray a character that has had to deal with two extremely traumatic events in their life if you consider this you can understand why I love her performance so much. The scene that stands out in my eyes is with Sydney’s director, a cameo by David Warner, when she professes to be a fighter and then proceeds to take up the stage and give a fantastic soliloquy, donning quite a British accent I hence to add, which is breathtaking and dialogue is so important to Sydney’s characterisation and it is crafty, and intriguing, sneaking in a soliloquy to show this, instead of the character voicing the feelings openly and it shows the entire theme that shrouds her life, the choice of subject matter also, Cassandra of Troy and her premonitions of tragedy to which people ignore like Sydney warning people of the killer’s power and then their ignorance leading to their demise, mirrors the tragedy of her life and that, when you start to truly understand the character, will make your heart break every time you hear those words spoken by her. The additions of actors like Sarah Michelle Gellar, Timothy Olyphant and Portia de Rossi work well and do not hinder the film; Director Wes Craven uses their talents to mock the teenagers we all hate in horror films and it all pays off.
The scares are plenty and placed in the utmost opportune moments and they all lead to a very satisfying ending which doesn’t actually sound that ridiculous when you actually think about it. The dialogue is still fresh and the best dialogue I have seen from a sequel in quite some time and the referencing still to this day amuses me and makes me play the “guess where that’s from” game, I love films that care about the fans of the horror genre so much they reference it and give them jokes that only they would get and on top of all of that its terrifying at times. What is not to love here?
9.0/10
Personally I prefer this sequel to the first (probably due to the soliloquy) but I can, being unbiased, say that I understand why the first one is a masterpiece compared to this one. If you want to see a sequel that actually succeeds in providing entertainment, witty dialogue and intellect then this may just be for you.
not better then first one but its a great 2nd in the trilogy
This is probably the only horror movie sequel that is better than the first! Scream 2 is a MASTERPEICE! Loved every minute of it!
Not half as good as the original, but still a worthy sequel in the trilogy. The cast does a good job and the story is pretty good. The only thing I didn’t like was that they killed Randy, I mean really everybody from the first lived except for him!! Pissed me off. Dewey gets stabbed in BOTH movies and hes still kickin! Newayz better than most sequels imo.
A good entertaining film.
I loved it.Defiantly great for a sequel.
I really didn’t expect much when i went to see this film because i usually don’t like sequeals but this one i thought it was just great the stoy kept you guessing all the twist and turns the movie took made you pay attention up until the end. i really liked that cotton wearie continued his story line from the first movie and they expanded on the character. it really sucked that they killed off randy in this one but the killers were finishing what stew and billy started in the original film. anyway see SCREAM 2 if you havent already you won’t be dissopinted.
An absolutely terrific sequel, almost as great and entertaining as the original.
Again, it’s full of wonderful atmosphere, compelling suspense and gripping tension, with at least 2 super-awesome scenes that always leave me speechless: the impressive “He Knows You’re Alone”-like opening with all the ‘Stab’-madness and 2 stunning kills, and the heart-stopping car-scene.
Again, the cast is just gorgeous with some cool performances from Jerry O’Connell, Timothy Olyphant, Liev Schreiber, Sarah Michelle Gellar and of course, Campbell and Cox.
Again, Williamson delivered an almost perfect script, camera work and soundtrack are just great, the kills are all highly satisfying (especially the van killing and the amusing scene where Gellar gets thrown off the balcony) and the dialogue is mostly really funny (“It’s some dumb-ass white movie about some dumb-ass white girls gettin’ their white asses cut the fuck up.” / “Bitch, hang up the phone and star-69 his ass!” / “What’s your favorite scary movie?” – “Showgirls. Absolutely frightening.”).
The 2 only things I don’t like about it is the disappointing ending and (of course) Arquette – apart from that, it’s another excellent and totally enjoyable 90s slasher.
A very self-aware and fun sequel to one of my favorite slasher franchises. I’m really looking forward to Scream 4 and seeing all of the new and old faces.
Check this out if you are a fan of the original at all.
Amazing sequel! Better than the original!
A horror movie within a horror movie? Okay, I’ll buy it. That doesn’t mean I have to like it. More money equals more stars equals more famous death scenes. Some moments were clever, some just repeats of things we’ve seen done already, and if you hold the original in high regard, this film might taint your vision of the series. More details here:

Not as good as the original, but thats far from an insult. Great Film, and yet another amazing script. The twist of the killer(s) identity at the end is just awesome.
Looking back it has some cheesy moments, but the good far out weighs the bad.
Ending showdown was dragged, some parts were too predictable, and the killer’s attempts were somewhat laughable sometimes. It seemed really staged.
yet I still love the Scream series and this movie. I especially love how they play with horror movie cliches. It really keeps you guessing, the scares are pretty good, and it’s overall a really enjoyable film. I grew attached to some of the characters, and I liked how they tied this one with the first one.
So all in all, I’m happy with this movie. Not as good and classic as the first, but still really good.
“Scream 2″ is all whimsy, all wit, and all entertainment. I don’t find it quite as funny, scary, or unforgettable as the film that it is a follow-up to, but it works in the same ways as the original film and operates well with Wes Craven returning as its director. The man who penned the first “Scream”, Kevin Williamson, also hops aboard and once again does a pretty good job at providing us with what’s simply put, a screaming good time. If you go to these movies for anything more or anything less, then you may not find this sequel to your liking. But then again, if you’re one of those people, then you probably saw “Scream” and lacked the ability to see what everyone else was apparently seeing. It’s not exactly difficult to find humor in something as deliciously over-the-top as “Scream” or its sequel, but there are of course, detractors. Perhaps this isn’t their idea of a good time. That’s too bad. As long as they can have fun otherwise, then I think we’re OK. “Scream 2″ is made for a certain audience, and luckily, I’m not in the minority when I say that it’s actually pretty darn good.
Most of the original cast returns for the film, which was a nice surprise. If you didn’t know already, “Scream” was a somewhat groundbreaking and undeniably original horror film in which the characters had seen the horror films that we saw; and the film set out to satirize the genre as a whole. If you know what to expect from that set-up, then you know what to expect from “Scream 2″. It leaves off from the first film; which ended in a bloody finale that was as hilariously well-written as it was appropriately violent and intense. The first film involved a vile, sadistic stalker/serial killer who made creepy, flirtatious house-calls to young women in which he would ask them horror trivia and the like. They were playing for people’s lives, or at least, that was how it was with the first game. But as we know, in the end, the killer(s) were revealed, and the story had seemingly ended. Boy, were we fooled!
Sidney (Neve Campbell), the central heroine from the first feature, returns here as the main role. You’ve got a nice change of location, as Sidney is studying at a college now, and you’ve got most of the characters that you remember from “Scream”, so really, it’s all a matter of what Craven and his filmmaking team do next. Sidney has a new boyfriend (Jerry O’Connell), and since her original circle of friends was killed by the end of “Scream”, some new amigos. This includes Mickey (Timothy Olyphant), Hallie (Elise Neal), and Randy (Jamie Kennedy) who, come to think of it, was indeed in the first film. So there; not everyone was stabbed to death.
You thought the murders had stopped, but you’d be wrong. The psycho killer known as “Ghostface” is back and at it again; first starting at a movie screening in which a film based on the brutal events of the first film is having its world premiere. A couple is killed. The news people get involved. And when I say that, I hope you think of Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox); the nosy news lady from the first film, who would consistently intrude on the lives of the victims and friends. She hasn’t changed a bit.
“Scream 2″ is ridiculously predictable, but only because it wants to be. We know every twist, and we know just about everything that Craven is going to do with his story, but here; I don’t think it’s all about storytelling. This is yet another fine satire of the slasher film, so Craven’s central fixation is film references and dialogue. It’s an intelligently written film, where the scenes of brilliance certainly stand out among other things. I think you’ll like it as long as you enjoyed “Scream”…and as long as you can tolerate graphic violence.
This isn’t a great film, like its predecessor. It’s well-acted, and made as only a Wes Craven slasher film can be, so if you go in looking for a good time; then that’s what you will get. I didn’t expect greatness, and what I got was goodness, so I was alright. There’s some good writing and direction that went into the product, and in the end, it kind of works well; or at least well enough to impress this guy here.
I actually think that scream 2 is just as good as the first one
This is my favorite Scream film. I liked it better than the original. The kills were more brutal, Randy was funnier (it’s a real shame that Ghostface killed kim), and in this Scream Sidney Prescott seems much tougher. “Why don’t you show your face, you fucking coward?” Great movie!
Not as good as the first one but its great ! just love scream !
A great Scream sequel! This movie was amazing because it’s the sequel to Scream, end of discussion….and maybe because Timothy Olyphant (<3) was in this movie too.
A GREAT ADDITION to the amazing Scream series! The Scream series is the only film series where the sequels are as great as the first movie! Love all the Scream movie and this is no exception! Great horror film, don’t miss it!
