A great little film this is – mixing gore galore with oodles of unintentional comedy. Terrible acting and horrible music somehow just helps to make this classic something even more special! It would be a sin to not recognise the importance on this little film on the horror genre, without this perhaps films wouldn’t be as gory (or fun) as they are today. Truly groundbreaking stuff at the time, and still a fun and highly entertaining treat today. Three cheers for Herschell Gordon Lewis!
Another H.G. Lewis best, since Two Thousand Maniacs and Color Me Blood Red. With bad acting and unintentional humor, this is another rare gem ahead of its time.
Wow, 1962. I did not expect this movie to impress me at all. This film claims to be the world’s first gore film and from what I just watched I believe it. There are movie’s from then to present that don’t have this much blood. I am glad I pick this up. If you are a Gore fan and have not seen this movie I suggest you check it out and remember it was made in 1962 and enjoy this classic.
I picked this gem up for about 14$ NZ in The Herschell Gordon Lewis Collection Vol 1 which was recommended to me by a friend. I didn’t think much of it just looking at the case boy I was wrong. This film is a great masterpiece although it dose have a bit of unintentional comedy and the acting is bad but the gore effects are amazing for it time 1962. As others have said I would recommend this to anyone who calls themselves a gore fan.
Ha, just seen my first Herschell Gordon Lewis film and it was great fun. ‘Blood Feast’ is of course a bad, bad movie but it is the first splatter film ever made so I just have to pay some kind of respect to it.
Terrible acting, lousy dialogue, bad editing and an annoying soundtrack – yet, the gore scenes are absolutely brilliant (severed legs, torned out tongues and brains…), the plot is pretty nice and… well, it’s so bad it’s actually great!
Every now and then, I try to watch this movie. It has a so bad it’s good’ vibe. It’s very cheesy with corny dialog, but that’s what makes it unique. The gore scenes are amazing for its time. An insane Egyptian caterer named Fuad Ramses begins a ‘Blood Feast’ when asked to cater to Suzette’s party. He goes around hacking up beautiful women and taking their body parts. I would definitely recommend BLOOD FEAST!!!
