A sub-par movie saved by an awesome finale.

The first chunk of this movie is extremely amateurish, from the cinematography to the bad accents (the sets were pretty bad too). Although The Shrine plugs along for a large portion of the film, its finale really picks up the pieces. The finale was very polished, and had plenty of blood and demons. It’s a shame it took the film that long to kick into gear, only to end shortly after. Another one of The Shrine’s strong points is its story. Although the first half of the movie drags a bit, the story really comes together nicely and puts a spin on things towards the end.

The first part of the film may not be extremely fun to watch, but its story and finale make the boring part of the ride completely worth it.

    6/10

The movie has a great twist, but it is a little rough around the edges.

This film kinda rips off a pretty famous horror film. ;) Decent for an indie horror film.

Starts out painfully cliché and with several bad decisions made by the our leading lady, one after another. I spent the beginning of this film screaming at the TV.. “AH! You crazy bitch!”

Finally the movie shows some promise with the gruesome masks, and then ending with an interesting twist that isn’t convoluted and doesn’t piss you off.

    Netflix Streaming.
Very good movie, I may be among the few here nut the first half held my attention just as much as the finale, it for sure had some suspense, and was very creepy. I really like how the whole movie was explained in like 10 words from two different characters, not time wasted at all and it worked very well. One of the only flaws I had with this was one of the girls acting, definitely could have been better. Other than that give it a shot, it’s worth it.

I found it implausible from the start. The movie itself is eery, but the obviously satanic cult there was supposedly at odds with this mysterious statue and “had to kill” anyone who’s seen it. Why the need to torture in their dark chambers before killing them? And by the end of the movie, they are suddenly the “good guys” fighting off a demon possessing the girl. Then they kill her the way they killed her friend. I found it wholly unrealistic. Effectively executed though.

An very inspired throwback of movies like Hostel, The Exorcist, The Fog ect. that has a fast pace creepy and disturbing effects and images and a spooky story. The acting wasn’t the best but had likable leads but their characters made several stupid decisions that made me roll my eyes and laugh, not too smart people. The movie started off strong with a couple of cheap but good jump scares and one of the ugliest but scariest faces in a horror film in recent memory but the other half of the movie went down a very predictable and cliched path and just didn’t step up it’s game and deliver new tricks just borrowed some but they made a good effort to make those throwbacks effective but just not up to par for me and I’m being extra hard on it because it had all the potential in the world to do the best with its intriguing and chilling premise. Overall I’m not a 100% disappointed with it but just wanted something more from it but just got the basics from the genre. Wait for television. 6 out of 10

Slow burn? Try no burn. Not much new or interesting here. The acting was crap, the demons looked terrible. Meh.

At first The thingamajig in the forest reminded me of Lost’s black smoke monster. I enjoyed the ending most of all and think its worth watching again.

This was a surprisingly good movie, the story starts off one way, then takes an unexpected turn. Somewhat slow beginning with a couple of shocking scenes to hold your interest. The story really takes off once the main characters encounter the shrine. There is ample gore and some solid violence plus an interesting twist in the story line that makes this movie work.

Official Score: 3.5 / 5
